Traux is all pressure... He boxes like I spar... Bully
Keep him in the middle of the ring he got nothing. All degale had to do was stay off the ropes on the first fight and he'd have 2 wins over homie.
Hurd got the best chin and body attack in boxing.
Like it's crazy. His defense is suspect... But that body attack was so fucking brutal.
Composed. Patient. Precise. Like he beat lara in an extremely impressive fashion.
Of course hurd/ Charlo is the fight to make... But where every one thought charlo would steam roll, I think last night changed minds...
If they do fight, is MD all day for me. I'm looking forward to that.
Bodyguard for Floyd Mayweather Jr. out of hospital after early-morning shooting
One of Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s bodyguards was shot early Monday as a group of three cars that included the boxing great were traveling to a hotel in Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
The APD said in a news release that police believe Mayweather was with the vehicles but was not in the car that was shot at and was not injured.
Investigators said they were looking to confirm that the shooter was targeting the vehicle.
"At this time, it appears that this was not a random shooting and the shooter was targeting the victim's vehicle," Atlanta police spokesman Donald Hannah told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The bodyguard, Gregory La Rosa, was treated at an Atlanta hospital for a leg wound and released.
Police spokespeople told media outlets that the cars were traveling from a club to a hotel around 2 a.m. Monday when another vehicle pulled alongside and opened fire. The cars drove off and were followed by the shooter's vehicle. A driver took La Rosa to the hospital after the shooter's car stopped following the other cars.
Mayweather was in Atlanta on Sunday after promoting his Showtime-televised tripleheader in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Frampton-Donaire, Selby-Warrington Added To Showtime
SHOWTIME Sports added two featherweight bouts to its robust boxing schedule with two high-stakes matchups from the U.K. streaming live on SHOWTIME Sports social media platforms, free to boxing fans in the U.S.
Former two-division world champion Carl Frampton will battle former four-division champion Nonito Donaire on Saturday, April 21 in Belfast, Ireland for the interim WBO Featherweight Title. Then, on Saturday, May 19, IBF World Champion Lee Selby will defend his 126-pound title against undefeated Josh Warrington live from Leeds, England. Both SHOWTIME BOXING INTERNATIONAL® social media offerings will stream live in the U.S. on SHOWTIME Boxing Facebook page and SHOWTIME Sports YouTube Channel. The events are promoted by Frank Warren with live coverage provided by BT Sport and BoxNation.
The previously announced rematch between WBA Featherweight World Champion Leo Santa Cruz and former three-division champion Abner Mares will take place just a few weeks later on Saturday, June 9 live on SHOWTIME® from the Staples Center in L.A.
In all, five of the consensus top-10 ranked featherweights will clash on SHOWTIME platforms in two months, including two world champions and four former multi-division champions. These matchups between titleholders and top-ranked featherweights will give further clarity to a stacked division.
“As we’ve seen at welterweight, super welterweight and even heavyweight, the top fighters in the featherweight division are looking to prove that they are undoubtedly the best in the world,” said Stephen Espinoza, President, Sports and Event Programming for SHOWTIME. “They are doing so by facing their toughest challengers and ultimately seeking to unify world titles. SHOWTIME proudly leads the industry with fights like these—the most competitive and important fights in boxing’s most talent-laden weight divisions. We commend the fighters who have dedicated themselves to this simple, yet dangerous premise. Their effort has been inspiring and contagious.”
Two Fighter of the Year award winners will meet in a 12-round bout for the interim WBO Featherweight Title. Carl Frampton (24-1, 14 KOs), of Northern Ireland, will face Nonito Donaire (38-4, 24 KOs) of General Santos, Philippines, on Saturday, April 21 from SSE Arena in Belfast live in the U.S. via SHOWTIME Sports YouTube Channel and SHOWTIME Boxing Facebook page.
Frampton’s all-action style and willingness to take tough challenges has made him a fan favorite all around the world and the 2016 Fighter of the Year. He handed featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz his only defeat after conquering rival Scott Quigg in their 122-pound unification bout in 2016. Fighting out of Belfast, the Irish national amateur champion became a world champion in 2014 when he defeated Kiko Martinez to earn a super bantamweight title. Frampton, 31, lost his featherweight belt in a hard fought rematch against Santa Cruz on SHOWTIME in January 2017. He defeated Horacio Garcia via unanimous decision last November.
Donaire, the consensus 2012 Fighter of the Year, is working his way back to another world title fight. The two-time winner of The Ring’s Knockout of the Year award, “The Filipino Flash” turned pro in 2001 and has won championships in four weight divisions. Donaire has participated in nearly two dozen world title bouts thus far in his career. He lost his featherweight title to Jesus Magdaleno in 2016 and is coming off of a one-sided 10-round unanimous decision win over Ruben Garcia Hernandez at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The winner of this fight will be in position to challenge WBO Featherweight Champion Oscar Valdez, who is recovering from injury following his fourth title defense, a UD win over Scott Quigg on March 10.
May 19: Selby vs. Warrington – Elland Road Football Ground, Leeds, England
Featherweight world champion Lee Selby (26-1, 9 KOs) of Cardiff, Wales, will make his 2018 debut when he puts his IBF belt on the line against undefeated Josh Warrington (26-0, 6 KOs) on Saturday, May 19. This main event bout will stream live in the U.S. via SHOWTIME Sports YouTube Channel and SHOWTIME Boxing Facebook page. The fight will take place in Warrington’s hometown of Leeds, at the Leeds United’s Elland Road Football Ground.
Selby, the 31-year-old Welshman, has held the IBF Featherweight Title since 2015 when he wrested it from Evgeny Gradovich with an eighth-round TKO. He has since made four successful defenses, the latest being a unanimous decision over Eduardo Ramirez last December.
Warrington, 27, won the British Featherweight Title in just his twelfth outing as he outpointed Chris Male in 2012. He stopped Samir Mouneimne in his hometown of Hull to win the Commonwealth Championship in 2013 and continued his campaign with victories over Martin Lindsay, David Dieli and Dennis Tubieron. He defeated Dennis Ceylan via stoppage in the 10th round in his last outing to earn his shot at the IBF title.
Jermell Charlo to Fight Austin Trout June 9 at Staples Center
By Keith Idec
Jarrett Hurd is the man Jermell Charlo really wants to fight.
For now, the unbeaten WBC super welterweight champion will settle for facing an opponent Hurd has beaten. ESPN.com reported Tuesday that Houston’s Charlo (30-0, 15 KOs) likely will make an optional defense of his 154-pound championship against Austin Trout on June 9 in Los Angeles.
The Charlo-Trout fight will be broadcast by Showtime as part of a doubleheader that’ll feature a featherweight championship rematch between Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares at Staples Center. A press conference took place Tuesday for the Santa Cruz-Mares rematch, but Trout wasn’t announced as Charlo’s opponent as part of that event.
The 32-year-old Trout (31-4, 17 KOs), a former WBA super welterweight champion from Las Cruces, New Mexico, has lost two of his past three fights. The 27-year-old Hurd (22-0, 15 KOs) became the first fighter to beat Trout by knockout or technical knockout when the veteran southpaw declined to leave his corner for the start of the 11th round October 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
In his previous fight, Trout lost a 12-round unanimous decision to Jermall Charlo (26-0, 20 KOs), Jermell’s twin brother. Jermall Charlo, now a middleweight contender, was the IBF junior middleweight champion when he out-pointed Trout in May 2016.
Trout won his last fight, an eight-rounder against Colombia’s Juan De Angel (20-8-1, 18 KOs), by unanimous decision February 17 in El Paso, Texas.
If Jermell Charlo beats Trout, too, he is expected to fight Hurd in a 154-pound title unification fight later this year. Hurd, of Accokeek, Maryland, added the WBA and IBO super welterweight titles to his IBF junior middleweight crown by defeating Erislandy Lara (25-3-2, 14 KOs) by split decision Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Jermell Charlo, 27, has scored sensational knockouts in each of his past two title defenses.
He knocked out Dallas’ Charles Hatley (26-2-1, 18 KOs) in the sixth round last April 22 at Barclays Center. Then he knocked out Erickson Lubin (18-1, 13 KOs) in the first round October 14 at Barclays Center.
Jermell Charlo Warns: Hurd Don't Know What He Got Coming!
WBC junior middleweight world champion Jermell Charlo (30-0, 15 KOs) would like to get his hands on WBA, IBF champion Jarrett Hurd (22-0, 15 KOs) as soon as possible.
Charlo was ringside this past Saturday night at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, and watched Hurd win a close twelve round split decision over longtime division ruler Erislandy Lara to unify the WBA, IBF, IBO titles.
As BoxingScene.com reported earlier, Charlo is scheduled to return on June 9th, against Austin Trout at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Showtime's pre-fight plan was to match the Lara-Hurd winner against Charlo by the end of the year.
Charlo was happy with the way last Saturday's fight played out, because he's close friends with Lara and the two of them trained side by side for several years.
"Lara and me are friends, we trained together but we would have done it because of the business," Charlo told ESPN. "Me fighting Lara would have created turmoil, so I'm glad it went in this direction. I'll fight whatever fight I have to and he'll fight whatever fight he has to. But now he's out of the way and me and Hurd, it's a mega fight in our division. I'm like, 'Let's go!'"
Charlo believes Hurd takes away too many punches. He has no issue trading punches with Hurd when the time comes.
"Hurd puts on entertaining fights, I put on entertaining fights. Let's bang it out, let's rumble. I'm not a little 154-pounder (like Lara is). I'm six-feet tall, I'm strong, I'm thick. He's strong, he's thick. Let's give the fans a great fight. That's my thing. I'm proud of Hurd. He did what he had to do," Charlo said. "Hurd was very respectful to me. He's cool. They respect the 'Lion' but Hurd don't know what he got coming," Charlo said.
"I'd rather fight Hurd right away but I'm fighting June 9. I'd rather fight in the main event. That would be the best thing. But I will be ready for Trout and then I will be ready for Hurd. It's like it's been a tournament and me and Hurd is the final for all those belts. I am going to be so ready. My life is solid, I'm training hard, always working. I'm super pumped up for the Hurd fight."
Tyson Fury Announces Return for June 9; Opponent Unknown
By Keith Idec
Tyson Fury’s long-awaited return to the ring was officially confirmed Thursday at a press conference in London.
Frank Warren, Fury’s new promoter, announced that the former heavyweight champion’s comeback bout will take place June 9 in Manchester, England. An opponent for Fury hasn’t been secured, but Warren stated that Fury’s foe will be revealed soon.
The 6-feet-9 Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) hasn’t fought since he upset Wladimir Klitschko to win the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO titles in November 2015. Klitschko (64-5, 53 KOs) was a 4-1 favorite entering that bout, but Fury out-boxed him to win a unanimous decision in Dusseldorf, Germany.
The 29-year-old Fury’s immediate rematch with Klitschko was postponed twice. Those delays eventually led to Fury giving up his titles to seek treatment for alcoholism, drug addiction and depression.
Fury has been very vocal about returning to the ring to fight undefeated knockout artist Anthony Joshua (21-0, 20 KOs), who has emerged as a superstar in the United Kingdom since Fury last fought. Joshua now owns the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO titles Fury won from Klitschko, who was stopped by Joshua in the 11th round of their memorable battle last April 29 at a sold-out Wembley Stadium in London.
Fury is expected to face a much less imposing opponent than Joshua on June 9 in what will be his first fight in 2½ years.
He has been training regularly for his much-discussed return since January, when the British Boxing Board of Control announced it would lift Fury’s suspension and license him to fight.
“There will be no rush,” Warren said, according to London’s Daily Mail. “We want Tyson to be in the best possible physical and mental condition. I will be choosing the opponents, but the day for Joshua will happen. Tyson is a great boxer and all he needs is to get fighting fit to regain the titles he never lost in the ring and are rightfully his.
“[The Joshua fight] will happen after three or four fights. When the time is right, we will press the button.”
