So are you saying those dudes should somehow get a pass? Because all it seems so far is you trying to excuse behavior that you admit is inexcusable. Even in strip clubs you can't just randomly grope the women so that analogy don't even work the way you think it does. Also the fact that you think that dudes who somehow feel more comfortable harassing women in large groups at a public event is somehow not as bad as a woman being harassed under "normal" circumstances is some wild mental gymnastics. It's ok to just not try and justify or find the devils advocate side of everything. Some shit is just wrong.
It's not about playing devil's advocate. I just feel like you're being disingenuous as seen by the bold.
I'm not saying nothing bad happened at Freaknik. There were most certainly examples of rape and sexual assault that were wrong by any standards. That's fine, and no, nobody deserves a pass for that. My problem is that you and others are trying to paint Freaknik as some common event where people came in and started behaving badly. That's just factually incorrect. The "behaving badly" was the whole purpose of the event. By the time I was old enough to understand what Freaknik was, literally the only narrative around it from either men or women was "Everybody is out there getting freaky in public." If going into the event, every participant's expectation is that it's a gropefest, who is out of place or wrong, the gropers or the people that are mad about being groped?
I never went because I never had any desire to grope random women and didn't want to be a part of that. Women who didn't want to be groped shouldn't have gone either. There was nothing good for them there. If they knew that and went anyway, whose fault was it?
