Do You Separate The Artist From The Person?

Everytime an R Kelley song come on tha radio...before I can change it...it seems like every lyric he sings sounds like he’s talking to a really young girl to me...could be tha accusations giving them that perception...I’m leaning more towards R Kelley actually singing about pedo shit

I'm not really old enough to remember O.J. Simpson the football player, but if he was playing today, I wouldn't support him in any way, shape or form just based off the type of self-hating, house-monkey he is.

Fuck that I still listen to R Kelly, what that man do in his personal life dont stop the fact the dude the best R&B artist of our generation.

2pac a convicted rapist but he got some songs that I like, Me Against The World is my favorite rap album.

If the songs are good I could care less what's happening in their private life.

You say that now...

But, what if R. Kelly was caught on video messing with a 12 year old tranny, while smoking meth?

You still gonna say you don't care about his personal life?

You still gonna buy his records?

C'mon, fam.

Sometimes you just CAN'T sepatate the artist from the person.

Depends on the situation.

I dont care about an artists personal life to the point that I very rarely even read or watch interviews they do.

That being the case sometimes Im the last to know about any scandal they have going on.

In rare instances if shit is real bad I stop listening.

I wanted to cut off Mystikal after all the sexual assault shit but I just like it too much, still jamming to pussy crook smh.

It depends how closely tied the work is to the person's negative traits

Yes we all do. It's entertainment.

Kanye West is a horrible person, Jay-Z is Machiavellian AF, r.kelly self explanatory, Tupac became a self fulfilling prophecy, etc.

People are and will always be forgiving of their stars

How is Kanye terrible? He can be egotistical and still be fine.

I can causally listen to a Future, Two Chains, Rick Ross, Dr. Dre, or R. Kelly song on the radio or at a party, but I am not going to go out of my way to give them my money.

I do feel that artists should be held accountable if they are pushing a certain image that is not true though.

I have a question, is Future really a drug addict or is he portraying one to sell records? Regardless, he is glorifying that shit, but if he is not, then that shit is even worse.

I heard corny, dumb-ass sounding Two-Chains graduated college with a high GPA, but he denies it because it will hurt his image.

You niggas already know about the Rick Ross thing, so it is not worth mentioning, LOL.

Dr. Dre is not a rapper or gangster. Shit, he even tried to get Rakim to rap about more gangster shit, which caused creative differences and eventual split between the two.

2Chainz talks alot about him being in college. Idk where you got he denies it from. As for the actual thread question it depends on what the artist did, and how they've handled themselves after. Certain shit will always be an instant no fly zone. Anything involving kids, sexual assault/rape, or full proof of abuse it's hard for me to. I said it in a thread the other day it's hard for me to listen to any Big Pun song adn not think about that video of him chasing his wife with a gun. We all know James Brown is the GOAT but I was listening to Bomani Jones talk about this very same subject and how he says he feels guilty for listening to James Brown's music and enjoying yet while also knowing his son has told stories about him seeing JB literally on top of his mother beating her ass. I heard that and had to do a quick double take. It's pretty much known and confirmed Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" is about a teenage girl and that shit ruined alot for me when I found it out. I don't see how niggas can still listen to R. Kelly sing about sex when we all know what he's about. So while I won't deny someone's talent or influence due to their transgressions, when it comes to listening to their music, especialyl when they rap/sing about certain topics, then I can't do it.

I dont give a damn what they doing in their spare time / personal life to be honest

I'm no5 buying none of their albums but r kelly has some jams nobody is perfect and like r kelly said in that 2002 interview "I done done some thangs" yeah we all done, done some thangs at some point in our lives lol.
Btw I believe that I am the only blackpersonin america between the age of 35-50 that hasn't seen the r kelly sex tape.

Just was debating this and come to terms that I do separate them. I still jam Chris brown, Michael Jackson and R. Kelly. I don’t condone what any of them have done but can’t deny them their talents but look at this crazy shit here

Kellz was talkin about a different type of 12 play this whole time.

Kellz is sick, the bitches who fucked with kellz post aaliyah / post sextape is sick, the niggas around kellz is sick, etc.

I haven't seen the doc yet cuz it's probably gonna be full of shit I already knew, but I'm gonna watch it today.

I thought tha same shit fam...I’ve heard it all already...BUT GAWD DAMN!! That nigga Kellz is/was sick my nigga...knew tha stories but to hear first hand accounts from people involved...all those muthafuckas need to be tortured...him, his “handlers” and everybody involved

Worst/craziest part of tha doc so far for me is when they show a clip of Kellz from November and it seems like he talking about tha doc and stories about to come out...and this nigga standing in front of a crowd of friends exclaims “ITS TOO LATE!! They should have come for me 30 years ago!!” Smh
