ABW Stock Exchange: All Things Investing

When there's blood in the streets BUY !!!!
We were overdue for a correction anyway. I'm waiting until after the election and for the initial Corona virus scare to die down and I'm buying all I can Inb4 the great market rebound of 2021.

I'm more than happy to help educate anyone regarding investing and how to do it.

I signed up for TD Ameritrade the other day in preparation for this while I've been doing all my research.

I'm trying to speak to someone who's spos to be a financial advisor later today just in passing to get a better feel of what exactly im about to jump into and jut for some general pointers and things to look out for.

Gonna try to post here with the questions I asked them and what they told me afterwards..

Not that I have a huge portfolio to begin with....but the whole value of it pretty much has evened back out to where it was when I first got in.

Dividend payouts aside I'm basically back at ground level

BUT

I'm hanging on to it regardless and waiting patiently

Spoke to someone today... not surprised but they were advising heavily that I roll with a managed mutual fund.

Dunno if I'm sold on that... Like I said earlier... my current understanding is that ETFs/Index Funds don't have as many fee's associated with them.

They were also suggesting I start out with 10-20k....

thoughts @Sion @DOS_patos ??

Again.. I'm a complete newbie learning on my own. Looking for something long term and not taking a suuuuper huge risk gambling on someone else's picks.

Was gonna DM yall but I figured this info would be helpful to everyone else trying to learn the ropes here as well.

I recently joined a FREE online stock simulator game where I can learn more about investing by actually buying and selling stocks with virtual cash.

I'd like to invite you to join the game named ABdubb as well. To sign up and to join the game right now, click here.
I'm in. I'm going to use it to help me get more familiar with shorting. Don't have the know how or balls to do it with me real portfolio yet

A couple videos I've been watching over the past week or so mentioned two investment strategies

Splitting your portfolio
65% Stocks
35% Bonds

or this type of split here

30% Domestic Equity
15% International Equity
10% Emerging Market Equity
15% US Treasuries
15% Tips (Not sure what that means just yet)
15% Real Estate

Thoughts? I'm still learning tho. I'm sure it's different for everyone. Not a one size fits all type of thing.

the 65/35 seems to be the easiest for a beginner like myself lol

Still trying to figure out how I feel about bonds...
