Welcome To aBlackWeb

Can you be "woke" and date white people?

What are your thoughts on the media portraying strong and outspoken pro black women of color on shows/movies but their lovers end up being white men? And these relationships are portrayed as unhealthy because they're hidden initially by the black woman. (References to what I'm discussing include Sam from Dear White People, Nova from Queen Sugar and on a less overt scale, Olivia Pope from Scandal. I'll leave Annalise out of this one).
No! Do you really understand what you say you believe?

Nah its more like saying i love cherry coke but ima have me a sprite instead
It's more to it than that. I couldn't choose sprite knowing that the creators of it poisoned my cherry coke for centuries and still is just at smaller doses... It would mean that I really don't love cherry coke like I said I did.

thats tough man lol

as much as I want to, I have no recourse

I have affiliated my company with the company who's parent company helped sabotage my company's parent company

fuck....

But see we're talking about a human being so being with a white doesnt mean u support white supremacy, especially if the white partner doesnt either.

Like someone holding stock in a company then pullin out when they conduct business in a way the stock holder dont agree with.

Cuz if were gonna take it that far, anyone who continues to buy from h&m, watches nfl, is a patriots fan, doesnt like black ppl.

Including the employees, the players, the black ppl from boston who simply grew up rooting for the "trump team" before trump was president

Its too many layers levels and pieces

There's a fine line between being a cog in the capitalist machine and blatantly supporting ones oppressor while stating you're fighting the good fight.

For example, one of the instances you provided picture this:

A black man protesting outside an h&m while wearing the monkey hoodie he bought.

Now granted, it's his right to wear what he wants but pardon me if I look at that man like...tf you doin? Either protest forreal or keep shopping there, straight up.

I agree that there are more levels to this but I just want you to understand what it looks like from my perspective.

Can black people date wypipo? Of course and I hope you know that's not the argument.

Can that person be problack and date wypipo? Not without looking like a hypocrite.

I understand what ur saying but as for the bolded theres a diff between looking like a hypocrite and actually being one. A lot of ppl make assumptions without facts and make judgments on surface level. Thats what a lot of ppl are doing in here it seems.

Also a black person dating a white person is not 'supporting the oppressor'. This is implying all white ppl oppress black ppl which is simply not true.

Thats really the only issue i took with your analogy is that its painting too broad a stroke over black and white people and doing so is what leads ppl to think theres no such thing as being woke and dating white, or being woke while being white.

The bold is where we differ. Because the oppression of black people has a direct correlation to the success of whites in America. You individually may not be racist but to say that you never benefitted from being a white man in America is a denial of history.
Accept that as I've accepted that I have my own prejudices towards wypipo. Though my judgment is formed from personal experiences.

What part of the city are you in?

I dont deny white privelege or that ive benefited from it at times outside of my control. This does not make me an oppressor though nor do i support oppressors myself. And my success or that of my family will not strengthen white supremacy bc white supremacy isnt nor has ever been my goal or inspiration in life.

Are there whites who are willing to oppress given the power and opportunity? Of course. But thats not the whole group as u are implying.

If its possible for white ppl to be 'woke' then its possible for a black person dating a white person to be 'woke' as well. And sometimes (definitely not always) the exposure to other races forces u to be more conscious of such.

But if u dont have these types of experiences or interactions with white ppl i can see why u hold prejudices, u simply dont know or havent met them.

Im on the nw side belmont cragin/portage park border

I've lived in the whitest towns to the blackest parts of the city my friend...Born in Roseland and lived in 5 different states including MN just last year. And you know like I know that's the birthplace of all wypipo, lol. I've had plenty encounters with non blacks is my point.

Now I'm curious to know what you define as 'woke', if you've dated 'woke' black women and if it ever worked out.

I gotta make some runs, but I'll be back to respond.

Im black im not gonna tell a white male how ridiculous ima look in a relationship with a white woman who dont understand why my people got massacred in the streets by white cops before me up to the whole year of 2017

Yea...ive hung out in the hood or stayed around there for a long time. If i judged mfs just by what i seen passing thru and not actually speaking to ppl or brushing up the bullshit ignorant mfs do in some encounters as "this must be how all black ppl are" id probably be prejudiced to. But encounters dont count. I mean relationships, doesnt have to be romantic.

If u never had a genuine relationship or friendship with a white person yet youve been around them, your prejudices may be the reason.

But one thing u mentioned, perspective, is important. As a white dude if im seen dating outside my race im looked at as an open minded progressive individual. Whereas if a black person does it u start hearing about being a sellout or doing it for 100 reasons other than love or friendship.

As for woke....i mean socially conscious as far as race goes. The best example i can give u of a woke white man is Tim Wise. If u never heard of him id appreciate u checkin out a vid n tellin me is he woke to u or not.

Thats cool but if she does or tries to understand then youre talkin about a different white woman
