As all forms of art is. I really hate that I sound like an apologist for this shit though man. Like i said I'm still trying to figure how can both things coexist. The expectation of outlawing and censoring things in art expression is dangerous.

I guess a devil's advocate is for folks saying we wouldn't wanna hear white folks singing and calling us niggers. But would movies like American History X exist? Or Django? Idk man I'm confused.

The only reason they coexist is because we make those allowances. Thats why I said we are all guilty of it. If we didnt then the music wouldn't be there because there would be no audience for it. Now the thing is is our entertainment worth hearing about the shit we allow or is there something more we should demand from artist?

So on this site we can say faggot 24/7 but let a nigga say dyke then it's an issue

some real thoughtful posts in here
i also have been getting more conflicted over the years
its a lot to think about. having a daughter definitely changes your views.

That's also something that's been pointed out as a problem. That it shouldn't take having a daughter to all.of a sudden be aware of just how bad some lyrics we listen to are. Because now you're main reason being against it is not wanting someone to perceive your daughter that way...but thay same woman before who was a bitch, hoe etc is also somebody's daughter too. Its alot packed into this discussion

"I'm a savage
Classy, bougie, ratchet
Sassy, moody, nasty..."

Lol at the view of the hill.
I feel like I'm not qualified to speak on this as a man, but maybe other woman posters can help me on this.

Their is a disconnect somewhere in the middle with normal feminist who want women equality laws, rights, respect and other feminist who want the same thing but also women to be viewed strictly in one way. My conversation with my lady was asking her if this approach is divisive within the women community because the unity is not there. For example some Trans women and women pride themselves on how they express themselves from a feminine, dolled up approach or use forms of seduction as power and liberation. Their are some feminists who look down on this approach and call this feeding into the man stereotype of what a woman should be or behave like.

I think there is definitely more balance needed for what women role should be equated too, however I'm more on the feminist side of equality. I get the sense from Janelle Monae she wants both and perfers for only women to call each other the B word similar to how only black folks can say nigga.

I get it, but do believe and hope once equality is reached in society there will be a place for art to become vulnerable again. I get the clean up approach though.

Bruh if you've ever read different feminist theories there's actually very little they agree with across the board...especially when you add race and class into the mix. Theres a reason the phrase white woman feminism exists.

Truthfully neither should fly, but yours was unsolicited. Ain't like you was actually responding to a poster. You just said the shit cuz she said something you dont like.
furthermore, i think janelle should get a little more respect given her artistry and how she carries herself. she didn’t say anything disrespectful in that post, she didn’t attack anyone or call anyone out their name.

she seems like a positive person that always shows love to our people.
