ATL is a better visual movie than Belly and yet niggas never bring it up

and yes Hype knows how to use colors well but outside of the first what? 10 mins what is there that’s special

And even if I wanna concede that the cinematography is good

the acting isnt
The plot isn’t
There’s no characters that have any actual depth
These guys are introduced as a stick up crew right?

y’all fall back on

“it has quotables”
“It’s a classic hood movie”
“It had a cool cast” at the time”
“I watched it a lot”

none of these things mean shit as far as quality of a movie

this movie is a 5/10

I’ll watch it and it’s mildly entertaining but it’s ass and it’s okay
 
Don’t get me started on OX being killed and that shit didn’t even need to be in the movie

neither did the Nebraska angle

I'll add to that. The blacks and red in the Gillz Nills shootout scene with Method Man. I thought it was dope

Hits on all 3 tho. I'm watching now.

Cinematography is actually great. Had a great mix of scales. Although a couple scenes are too dark.

Script is straight.

All the acting is on point accept for nas. Lol.

It's as classic as a hood classic can get.

I mean, this thread could be one example.

But 90's was a great decade for black cinema/film. From Hood classics to comedies. Some are forgotten or aren't talked about as much. Some have stood the test of time like NJC, Boyz, Juice, Friday etc. And Belly has too. Weather folks think it's good or bad, it made an impact one way or another.

Chris Robinson has had a nice directing career outside of music videos.
