In the moment of arrest...I can absolutely see why she didnt say he was the shooter. It was already a tense situation and if she get out the car screaming he shot me shit could have escalated real quick. So the logic of not initially cooperating is sound.

however, once she was safe and out of harms way she really had no reason to protect him. Thats the only part that is funny in the light to me.
