Dope, whats Safflower???

It's a spice. You can use the petals in cooking or even for tea.

I like putting saffron in some of the dishes I make but it can tend to be expensive sometimes especially if you use it alot.

Safflower is called the poor mans saffron sometimes, I wanted to grow some and see how they compared in taste.

Ahh OK, let us know whats it like... I heard some mad thing a couple years back about bootleg Saffron being imported to Europe (maybe around the world) as its such an expensive commodity... There was some test you could do to check if you had the real thing or not, I guess thats why its called 'red gold'...

edit: just found this video...

Some Brocolli from the garden. Snails and Slugs were tearing the leaves up. This is the second harvest.. the main head was harvested while I was in the states and this is what grew after. Almost started going to seed

Its been nice weather here last couple days, so thought we had turned a corner and could clear out the garden and start prepping this years grows but apparently were expecting some sleet and frost in the coming days or weeks ffs

Im gonna clear out and clean the polytunel and greenhouse and weed the fruit patch though...

Has anyone ever tested their pH level of their soil??? Im pretty sure my soil is nowhere near acidic enough to get really flavorous blueberries and lots of them, I seem to only get small batch each year... So did abit of research and Im gonna grow them in a pot with specific ericaceous soil this year and see how that does...

I wanna try tomato again. I think I planted too many, too close to each other my last try at it. I think I want to try peppers too.

what you got in mind to plant when the weather breaks?

Gonna do a little less this year and also make sure I get disease resistant plants (think they are called F1 plants???)... Tomatoes but in the pollytunnel this year, using string instead of canes to hold them up, tho might put 1 or 2 in the greenhouse... Im only gonna do a couple sweetcorn as I miscalculated how high they grow last year!!! haha Peppermint, kale, carrots... Might try onions again and few more herbs too...

Then outside in the fruit cage new batch of blueberries, raspberries, loganberry so probably wont really get an actual fruit this year...

I kept meaning to make a wooden strawberry tower but it seems really expensive to get oak or cedar wood in the UK as apposed to America... I dont wanna use the treated timber I did for my planter beds...

Hows your saffron like plants going???
