The Official DCU Thread

Although the future of the DC Extended Universe has been in question for some time now, fans were treated to a glimmer of seemingly good news this week when it was reported that Henry Cavill was in talks to reprise his role as Clark Kent/Superman in a new DC movie. Unfortunately, anyone celebrating his return may have been premature. A new report suggests that Cavill hasn’t even begun negotiations to slip back into the character’s iconic suit.

Still feel they need a movie night wing.... ESPECIALLY if they have any intentions of using Deathstroke.

Like I understand CW giving him an alternate back story for arrow purposes...

But Deathstroke is Dick Grayson's top enemy. Like that's his nemesis. If he is considered an essential villain... Then you need his hero....a teaser with him imo just confirms they should have been done a quality Grayson.....

The movie, comics, and TV news cycle keeps getting better DC fans lately. First, DC fans won their war in getting Zack Snyder's Justice League released on HBO Max in 2021. Then, Warner Brothers announced an exciting DC FanDome event for August. Now, exclusive news of an upcoming film will have the biggest DC Comics fans quite excited: Michael Keatonis going to play Batman in the Flashpoint movie. Keaton is in talks to play Bruce Wayne in the film but the deal has not yet be completed to bring him in to the film just yet.
The Flashpoint film will star Ezra Miller as The Flash and pick up on his DCEU ties which began in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and continued in Justice League. The Flashpoint movie will seemingly tie the DC cinematic multiverse together, including Batman and Batman Returns star Keaton reprising his role as the Caped Crusader. Keaton last suited up as the DC Comics hero in 1992. He is still in early talks for the part but it will see him portray Bruce Wayne in a story which pulls the Multiverse together, something DC's live-action properties first dipped its feet into with CW's Crisis crossover which saw Miller's Barry Allen meeting Grant Gustin's version of the character from The Flash TV series.
Keaton has seen an impressive resurgence in his career. Ironically, after starring in Birdman, he has appeared in the Spider-Man films as the Vulture.Birdman compiled a handful of former super hero film actors in a movie about an actor who once portrayed a super hero in film and essentially grew to hate the idea of it. He will be reprising the role in Morbius, out in theaters 2021.

There is no word on what this could mean for other actors which might have portrayed a version of Batman in Flashpoint. Jeffrey Dean Morgan portrayed Thomas Wayne in Batman v Superman, a character who becomes Batman in the Flashpoint comics story, and Ben Affleck is the actor who portrayed Bruce Wayne with Miller's Barry Allen in previous films. Whether or not ether will reprise their respective roles is currently unknown.

I wish they got Jeffery Dean Morgan for flashpoint batman. Maybe he still will be and Keaton will be a batman from a different universe.

Regardless, its dope that they got Keaton to come back for the movie haha. Just curious if he will be the films main batman as im sure they are drawing inspiration from flashpoint, or if he will just be a very minor role

Batman fans have been begging for Michael Keaton to reprise the iconic DC role again, playing an older Bruce Wayne in some sort of Batman Beyond movie. Half of that wish has come true, as news broke on Monday afternoon that Keaton, star of Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film, would be taking on the role of Gotham's billionaire vigilante once again in the upcoming Flash movie, starring Ezra Miller as Barry Allen. This is undoubtedly great new for fans of Batman, but there could be even more on the way. This could be just the tip of the iceberg for Keaton's Bruce Wayne, who might be appearing in even more DC films in the future.
After the initial news broke, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Keaton is possibly in line for multiple turns as Bruce Wayne. If he finalizes a deal with Warner Bros., Keaton could appear as a mentor-type of character in other DC movies after the upcoming Flashpoint film. This situation sees Keaton's Bruce Wayne as a character similar to Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"If these talks make, sources say Keaton could end up playing Batman in a mentor capacity, a bit like Sam Jackson's Nick Fury, and appear in multiple movies," wrote THR's Borys Kit. "Batgirl is one of the possible projects."

This raises a lot of questions for the future of the DCEU, as the exit of Ben Affleck as Batman left a major hole within the connected franchise. With the arrival of Keaton in Flashpoint, it looks as though Robert Pattinson's version of Batman will likely be contained to his own trilogy. The disappearance of Affleck's Bruce Wayne will still need to be explained within the franchise. That said, there's nothing a little multiverse can't fix.

Adding Keaton's Batman to a film like Batgirl makes sense, giving that character a mentor in Gotham City without trying to tie in whatever is happening with Pattinson and Matt Reeves. There isn't a release date for that film yet, nor is there a director in place, but the script is being written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson.

They really screwed up when they wanted tried to play catch up to Marvel. If they had just built their own universe slowly instead of quickly making Justice League they probably wouldn't be in the mess they are

I'm biased because I'm a Superman fan but I thought Man of Steel was great. I thought Wonder Woman was great too. Suicide Squad was crap. Batman vs Superman shouldn't have happened so quickly. Aquaman could have been better. Justice League was horrible

The Synder cut is interesting because it'll be 4 hours and they say it's completely different than the other movie. I don't know because Darkseid looks different in this clip

I personally dont feel like releasing Justice League prior to all the solo films was such a bad idea. It will be interesting to see how the team forms in the Snyder cut. I feel like the origins of these other heroes will be better fleshed out in Snyders version, or im hoping they will be at least. We saw in BvS Luthor/Batman knew these other heroes existed, but I just hope it goes into better detail for the characters.

I was perfectly fine with them releasing Justice League first, it just turned into such a disaster with the studio issues and director change. All of those characters were supposed to spin off into their own solo films, thankfully Wonder Woman was introduced in BvS and they got her film first, but I think Aquaman was effected negatively with the changes. I dont think that movie is what James Wan really wanted, hes been very quiet about it overall. He said he would not be returning unless there was a good script but besides that, thats all. Flash has been having issues with directors since the movie was announced. Cyborg film has completely been dropped it seems. Im hoping Snyders cut will have positive reactions and possibly get the ball rolling on the DCEU getting on track, but I also feel they will just focus on some lesser known characters or do a reboot of sorts with the flashpoint film. I just hope they keep Gadot and Cavill and possibly bring back Affleck.

I'm worried they are going to try to use Flashpoint the same way the X-Men movies used Days of Future Past to fix the screw ups they made only to make it confusing as hell. I didn't hate the Luthor casting because I liked him in other movies but he sucked as Luthor IMO. There was that one scene when he put his finger the guys move with the candy that's was cringey as hell and just gross to me. Also he seemed too... eccentric maybe? Best Luthor was the guy from Smallville TV series IMO.
Aquaman had a ton of CGI and the story was kind of lame. They made him too much like a surfer but I'll admit I'm not as familiar with that character because I never really was into him. I think I read they also removed the actor for Flash? Gadot and Cavill were great. Wonder Woman is one of the best just comic book movies made so far IMO.
I don't think Affleck is coming back. I've seen a few movies with Pattinson after his Twilight crap and thought he was decent and was able to move on from that series. So I'm wiling to see how his Batman movie will be.
They should have made a Man of Steel 2. I had been waiting since Superman Returns for a movie and really liked Man of Steel and then they just move onto the Batman vs Superman movie. Yea I wasn't happy lol

While this is good news...I just hope the go with death of a family.

Lie I keep saying. Dceu needs the bat family.

I hope Nightwing is in Batgirl as well

DC/WB’s mismanagement indirectly had them stepping into some shit. This differentiates themselves from Marvel. You still have your DCEU, but they still make standalone films. A stand-alone Batman Beyond movie is dope set in the Batman 89 universe.

Yeah i can do without the bat family, just do Batman Beyond in 89s universe. Trilogy movie out of that.

Ben Affleck is again said to be back as Batman and attached to HBO Max, the recently launched streaming service from AT&T and WarnerMedia.

Back in May saw the rumor first surface from 4Chan about Ben Affleck back as Batman, and now the Lightcast and Cultured Nerd YouTube channels claim the same.

The new info claims that Ben Affleck has already signed a new contract to return as Batman and that Affleck will be involved in additional appearances related to HBO Max and Zack Snyder Justice League movies.
