It's not. A person that earns a Doctorate never truly becomes a former Doctor.

Once the title is earned, then that's your title.

Thats not a comparison, Dr. indicates you have pHD, its a title not a job, its like being a Sir, Dame, Mr, Mrs, Ms (or other official ceremonial titles like CBE, OBE etc)... Whereas president is a job title...

Being a job title, if Im CEO of a company or manager then quit or get fired then I no longer hold that title...

Just like school teachers or professors dont still call themselves that once they retire...

As far as Im aware the U.S is the only county that calls their 'former' presidents, presidents... Ive never heard other countries call their former Presidents or Prime Misters that once they leave office...

President is more than a job title. The responsibility of the job comes with the title. That's why the title never leaves.

Also other countries absolutely still do what you said that they do not do. That's where the term Honourable comes from. You don't ever remember hearing The Honourable Barack Obama before? Calling him President Obama is doing just that without saying The Honourable in front of it Or former.
