Revisiting the whole Pound cake speech. A long read. Lets end this.

If there are trade schools in the area you can always enroll on your own. There are plenty of need-based grants for low income folks trying to go to a trade school.

They still have trade unions. Where folks get paid as apprentices and working their way up to journeyman and all that. Got 2 folks of mine with records who both did that. One now just bought a house for him and his family.

He CHOSE to stop living the street life get his shit together learned a trade and now he damn near a master electrician.

That's what's up. Everybody doesn't have to have be a lawyer, doctor, engineer, or what have you. A skilled trade can take you far in this world. I know a cat similar to your people that has a string of drug related felonies that took up working as a boilermaker, he's already through the apprenticeship and is a journeyman, if not a master at this point. He bought his family a nice ass house in the outskirts of Saginaw, MI in an upper middle class area and a few years ago had a new house built in the suburbs of Houston where they now live.

You just gotta want to do it.

Fuck this speech

Exactly.

Salute to that man for doing what he had to do.

lets not deal with the "rape" in this thread....this is only about the speech that seemed to have hit a nerve with some.

this aint about guilt or innocence....just the speech.

please dont comment if you are not going to read it.
i wont provide cliffs......try reading something thru for once in your life.

if you aint got time...come back later.

Please dont merge yet......let this cook for a bit.

I think we need to have a discussion about this and how we see ourselves in the past present and future.

Yeah.

Too many people caught feelings just because Bill told us we need to start taking responsibility for state of our community.

Say what you want about him, but he spoke the truth.

A hard truth, but still true nonetheless.

it goes back to a person belief in themselves.

alot of niggas just dont beleive them can be more than a drug kingpin.....yet they dont understand all the work that goes into it.....yet they work they ass off to do it. but if someone says you are smart and should go legit....im saying,.....lets be ral...alot of people like the lifestyle and the hood fame that comes with it.

Belief in yourself has a lot to do with it. Bill would be better off setting up programs to get people to that point than lecturing.

His speech wasn't meant to help broke folk, it was to kick them while they are down. We know this because it was delivered in front of a bunch of rich, well-to-do black folks at the NAACP award ceremony, far away from the folks who are actually struggling the most.

"You can lead a horse to water, but can't make him drink from it"

There have been programs set up across the country to get people to that point for decades.

It ain't about Bill, it's about the people that still refuse to get up off their asses to do something better with themselves when the framework is in place to help.

Still fuck this speech. Coon apologists the lot of you. Shucking and jivinh under the guise to make our people better.

But these people, the ones up here in the balcony fought so hard. Looking at the incarcerated, these are not political criminals. These are people going around stealing Coca-Cola. People getting shot in the back of the head over a piece of pound cake! And then we all run out and are outraged, 'The cops shouldn't have shot him.' What the hell was he doing with the pound cake in his hand? I wanted a piece of pound cake just as bad as anybody else, and I looked at it and I had no money. And something called parenting said, 'If you get caught with it you’re going to embarrass your mother.' Not 'You're going to get your butt kicked.' No. 'You're going to embarrass your family.'

:hahaha:

my thing is....why talk shit about the speech but not read it to understand it aint about you.

@LUClEN
bruh....this aint about you. if your parents supported you in your toughest time....this aint about you or them.

this is about people who dont do shit for their kids.

you dont need money or programs to raise your kid with some sense.

if you think thats what you need.....its a bigger problem at hand.

hes talking about murderers in our community and the people who dont stop them.
hes talking about the shitty parents who dont give their kids the tools to survive...but want them to look nice.

this is not about poor people....its about ignorant people.
