Official ABW Producer/Beatmaker Thread

Oh fuck I missed the deadline for this big time. Completely spaced.

Came in here to see if anyone would be interested in collaborating on a remix to Donna Summer's She Works Hard for the Money. It has not been redone very many times, and there are no good house/techno remixes so we could fill that void before someone else does. I'm already mad I missed out on redoing Aretha's Deeper Love.
i think everyone missed the deadline bro..

No Shade but you're due for an upgrade

lol... I just replaced it with this:

.. and I'm dead as fuck serious too. As soon as I clear up a few bills I'm getting an M-Audio Ozonic controller/audio interface and either an original Trigger Finger or an MPD16. I have Cubase SX3 installed now along with Korg Legacy M1 and Wavestation, and I'm debating on whether or not I'm going to throw in the rest of the Korg plugins. If I can find my copy of Kontakt 3 it's going on there as well.

Gotta remember, I've been doing this for a looooooong time. I can make beats on a P3 or even a P2 with the right setup.

Edit: Now that I think about it, a 486dx2-66 with 64MB RAM, an AWE64, Akai MPD16, Windows 95b, and old copies of Cakewalk Pro Audio 5 and Sound Forge 4.5 and I'm makin beats.

How does Cakewalk run with only 4gb of ram? I have 12 and FL still gives me problems

I was talking Cakewalk Pro Audio 5... The one released in '96. I could conceivably make beats using that on a 486 running Win95b and an old AWE64 card.

But, the bigger question here is what's going on where FL is giving you the blues with 12 GB of RAM? Granted I haven't upgraded to 12 yet, but I'm running FL 10 in as little as 2GB without an issue.

Running more than 5 Kontakt channels makes it slow as hell. I can't go down to an older kontakt either cause some of my library is only compatible with 5 and up

Shit 4gb ram was giving me hell with maschine 2.0

I mean u can get shit done but once u start adding effects its useless

hearing this kinda shit ticks me off. I mean, I know Maschine is supposed to do a lot of shit, but damn. Technically memory shouldn't hinder effects processing, the CPU would. But if you were having issues then I geuss that's what's happening.

Y'all don't be freezing yall patterns? You're basically bouncing which ever pattern you got selected. Shit always help me back then when I had 2-4 GB of Ram.

Yeah cause I give each their own midi channel

oooooooh nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bruh!!! You goin out the world backwards like that!

Kontakt is completely multi-timbral. You only really need one instance of Kontakt for that. One instance of Kontakt can handle 16 or 32 MIDI channels by itself AND it's multi-output, so you can send each of those individual sounds out to it's own mixer channel.

If I can find my Kontakt 3 disc I'll install it and throw up a few screenshots of what I'm talking about.

Welp... can't find my Kontakt 3 disc (I did find my Kontakt 1 cd tho). So, here's a video that shows you how to use Kontakt as a multi-timbral, multi-output instrument.

If you have a good enough sample library you could use a single instance of Kontakt and nothing else to make music.

damn, almost a whole month since the last post in this thread...

Completely forgot I was supposed to drop some screenshots of multi-timbaral Kontakt. I'll try to do something in the next few days.

Anyways... I'm ditching this P4-powered DAW. I ran into a couple of instances where I kept thinking "I simply need more processing power". My Pentium D 950 was enough of a machine where I never felt that way no matter what I threw at it, so knowing that I've put together a cheap machine that'll serve my needs based around an Intel Xeon X3220 quad core processor from 07 w/8GB RAM. Copped the motherboard, processor, RAM, and a case for about $100. Shit should be here by next Monday and I'll have it built by Wednesday.

Also on the way is an M-Audio Axiom 25 (1st Gen) and another M-Audio Firewire Solo interface (I used to have one). Shit's gonna feel good gettin back into the swing of making music again.
