Depends how big the state is or how close the next major city is.


For instance I can be halfway across my state in about 30 given the traffic, so it’s easier to be territorial.

But In big states if the closest major city is 30 mins away people tend to associate themselves with the major city because it becomes a point of reference rather than just its own small random place on the map.
