Fragrance thread

Final haul... Penhaligon's discovery set and few samples arrived yesterday, decent hit rate...

Will cop:

Halfeti: Maaaan this fragrance is incredible, at first I thought it was almost exactly a like for like scent to one of my favourites Eight & Bob's 'Egypt'... So I did a side by test and in fact they are pretty different... 'Halfeti' is more spicy and woody, along with spice and wood, it has leather and oud vibes??? Hints of something sweet too, like vanilla... Would love to cop a bottle of this...

Cairo: Fire!!! This kicks off with sweetish, incense vibe, with kicks of spice and vanilla... Maybe a hint of floral or rose but its not a main note imo and way in the background....

The Tragedy Of Lord George: Another great scent... Very masculine, a barber shop opening quickly dried down into a sweet, vanilla maybe leathery scent... I love it, one to wear on a formal outing or when you want to show some authority in a office...

Maybe cop:

Empressa: At first I was thinking this could be a summer cop but after the dry down its not quite for me... It has a citrus scent hint too but not overpowering as Im not a big citrus fan... the fruit and spice notes balanced it out... Though after smelling it again after 20mins it seems the citrus overtook the other scents and came to the forefront again... Think I need to test it on the skin and see what its saying...

Defo no cops:

Quercus (EDC): This wasnt horrible, abit weak and citrusy but it was fresh with some woody notes maybe some floral too, just not for me...

Artemisia: Gave this to my dukes as it defo seems more for the ladies... Quite weak too, I got hints of (english) tea with some faint powdery vanilla kicks...

AIUla: Just abit too sweet for me and found it very plumy... Also had some spice maybe even some leather??? The main think that put me off was the overpowering sweetness...

The Favourite: This was very feminine, vibes of rose or similar floral notes and powder...

Blenheim Bouquet (EDT): Waaaaaaaay too lemony!!!

Juniper Sling (EDT): Very weak, cant imagine this would last long... Think I get notes of gin and ginger, very aquatic too...

The Coveted Duchess Rose: Must be for the ladies, abit weak too, would say it smells like rose water... If a lady wanted a light, rose scent could be a good option...

Luna (EDT): Again, because Im not a huge fan of rose scents, they kinda stick out right away... And this rose hit pretty quick, though after the dry down I dont hate it and get a light rose/orange vibe from it...

Endymion: Found this abit weak and hard to pick out notes, maybe ginger??? And possibly leather...

Anyways, thats my sample haul done... Got a few that I want to cop on the list... A few samples that I'll keep and wear to see if they grow on me... And ALOT to give away to friends and family lol

Next I want to try find a summery fragrance and an inoffensive blue fragrance, so I'll check the LV ones Goldie recommended...

Ohhh man, I just tried a sample of Sospiro's Vibrato, this sh!t is gergous, smells so fresh, so fresh and so clean, clean!!! Dont know where to cop a full bottle though, they got terrible distro links...

It smells like something else I sampled recently though but I cant put my finger on it... One of the top freshies Ive smelt recently thats for sure...

I bought my bm a bottle of that a few months ago....

A couple weeks ago I wore LV's Limmensite and she thought I was wearing her shit. I didn't realize how similar they are. Limmensite is a little more masculine leaning imo.

Thats annoying as thats the only LV fragrance I cant get a sample of!!! Vibrato also smells like something else Ive smelt recently but I cant remember what...

After seeing the price of Vibrato from 3rd party sites it has kinda put me off anyways but its a lovely scent, would had liked a 50mill bottle... I'll keep trying to get hold of a little L'immensite sample though...

I should have somemore samples arriving this week, mainly summer and freshie joints... Also tried a sample of Memoirs Of A Perfume Collector's - Trouble In Paradise yesterday, it was nice but found it way too fruity and sweet...

Got these 3 samples en route

All 3 were duds/not for me

Arabians Tonka smells horrible and super pungent. I’ve actually smelled this scent before when I was out and always thought it was horrible.

Silver Mountain Water is not for me, don’t understand why the minty note is in there. I don’t wanna smell like chewing gum.

Millesime Imperial is the least offensive but still not a scent I would call “good,” it just smells pretty boring like a typical lotion or something

My rotation right now, it hasn’t changed too much

Calvin Klein Defy
LV Imagination
Lacoste L.12.12 Blanc Eau Intense
Terre Hermes Eau Givree

I’ll bring Layton back out in the fall

I love Silver Mountain Water as a freshie smell... I dont get a mint scent personally, funny how people can pick up different scents... I get heavy aquatic, bergamot notes that give it that sharp 'icy' punch up the nose...

Its a tough scent to describe but eversince @Eyerone described it as an ink pen smell I cant unsmell it now, its actually a really good description lmao

Just had a sh!t ton of samples turn up and the hit rate was baaaaaad so I wont post them up...

One thing I have finally realised is that I HATE strong amber notes, so thats something I know for the future and so many of the samples had amber at the front smh

What are you guys thoughts on amber scents??? It literally gives me brain zaps screw my face up...

Im also not a fan of overly leathery notes either and scents that are too sweet and fruity kinda lose their individuality...

What did like was:

Le Labo - Bergamot 22

A citrusy scent that dries down with abit of spice... Will try on for a day and see how it wears...

PDM - Percival

Quite a fresh smell, not sure I would buy it at such a high price though...

Serge Lutens - Datura Noir

Nice but way too feminine, smells like a mature female perfume... Think the floral with the coconut is a nice mix but leans way too feminine... @Tayboo have you this one???

You didn't like any of the LV colognes?

I have not, but I just looked up the notes and I'm intrigued.

I got Pacific Chill and Imagination so far...

Pacific was too fruity and sweet... I kinda liked Imagination, it was fresh but the dry down smelled abit green and Cilantro-y which kinda put me off as Im not a fan of coriander or cilantro... Though I can see why Imagination is well liked but cilantro vibe would put me off buying a bottle...

On a brighter note, my 'Terra Mia' from Carthusia finally arrived, after getting lost on route from Italy for the last 3 weeks!!!

I got it from them direct as I was tempted by the 75th anniversary bottle...

Tried a sample of Nishane - Fan Your Flames...

Think it could be a good one to replace my Virgin Island Water... Really nice coconut, rum and vanilla notes with a nice bit of sweetness mixed in...

Had abit of a come up... Penhaligon's have a summer sale for a few of their unboxed fragrances (tho Halfeti wasnt in there unfortunately)...

Managed to cop Cairo for £172 reduced from £215... Plus orders over £150 came with a free Luna Collection Travel set worth £50, so thats my dukes birthday present sorted... Nice saving of just over £90...
