Fragrance thread

Might be something of interest for the heads in here...

I just finished 'The Ghost Perfumer: Creed, Lies, & the Scent of the Century'...

Its a really interesting read, it doesnt just focus on Olivier Creed and his 'stealing' of scents and the ridiculous lies behind the brand but it also focuses on the life of Pierre Bourdon, the perfumer behind the many of the scents and other interesting info on the industry as a whole...

One thing that really annoyed throughout though, is the at times over inflated words and descriptions which make certain parts difficult to read but overall its defo worth reading if you have an interest in fragrance... Its a pretty quick read too, so doesnt take too much commitment to get through...

To steal 2 reviews off Goodreads that I defo agree with:

Review 1:

'Pros:

*Unquestionably* well researched, putting a stamp on "facts" that are usually part of fragrance mythology but have rarely, if ever, had the certification of good research and/or a horse's mouth account. The author has dug appreciably deep into the rabbit hole and come up with some fantastic findings, many of which are downright bombshells.

Cons:

Gabe Oppenheim's writing style is almost unintelligibly convoluted at times. Especially the ostensible flair of his nasty nesting of clauses, which makes it sound like he's falling over himself, unable to collect his thoughts. This book need not have been such an annoying read.

Review 2:

'I learned so much and appreciate the author's commitment to noting every detail he learned. That being said, 2 stars for the writing style. I finally understand what editors do. Maybe this is just a difference of opinion in writing style, but the writing reminded me of when my high school English teacher would make fun of students who looked up every other word in a thesaurus to make their writing look more impressive. Superfluous to the max and RUN ON SENTENCES. EVERYWHERE.

Would definitely recommend, it was entertaining and I look forward to the follow up.

Best pick ups of 2024?
Layton - by pdm
Golden wood - by the harmonist
Oud Wood- by tom ford

Gris Charnel extrait- by bdk (this one smells the best but has terrible performance and projection. Glad i only bought a travel size. After about less than 3 hrs, only people that hug you can smell it.)

My new new. The finery fragrance is a dupe of Kilian princess, which I have. It's green tea and marshmallow. I bought it mainly for bedtime wear.

Xerjoff italica was a blind buy. I did read and watch some reviews so I thought this was going to be a very dense and heavy gourmand based on that, but it's actually very light. It smells like an almond croissant soaked in milk.

I have a decant of greenwich village, so I got the body lotion to accompany that and some other perfumes I have. I want get a little collection of luxury body care for layering purposes.

The xerjoff and bond no 9 lotion were brought with my gift card from y'all☺️

First pick up of 2025...

I think Hermes are quite possibly my favourite designer brand... They still own their fragrance department, which is why I guess they keep most of their classics going and dont butcher reformulations....
