I would say he’s transitioned more to soul/rnb Alt/rap but I first heard of him through hip hop.
For better or worse hip hop/rap has broadened to not just being rap but being of the culture still.
Plus ppl see that there’s a bigger bag in branching out if you’re capable and it works

There was definitely a separation between rap and R&B and and hip-hop was almost the total opposite to what was going on in R&B.

Well alot of his rap songs do cover 2 of those topics quite often lol. But Camp and Because The Internet are two very good rap albums. He can legit rap not on some gimmick shit.
If y'all think Childish Gambino is Hip Hop then Hip Hop has been diluted to "anybody that raps" just like everything else Black people do.
