Dave Chappelle against affordable housing in his neighborhood

You really think folks don’t? Are you serious? I lived in LA for like 3 years and met so many folks moving to LA because it’s LA.

I know a few that did the same to South Florida and even more to Atlanta.

You can’t be serious

It's not just about fun man. People move to those places because they have more opportunity than other places. Where you think you more likely to get a good job ATL or Bumblefuck, GA? Yeah, you can afford a house in Bumblefuck, but what are the jobs paying there?

Aight bruh. You really downplaying the impact of having things to do especially to our generation and GenX and some of the high reaSons folks moving to certain places.

I'm not downplaying the impact. You're just talking about one demographic. People 28 and up, usually ain't making big moves with "fun" being their main motivating factor. You trying to have a conversation about housing trends in America as a whole while focusing on Gen Z. That's silly. Many of them probably aren't even looking to settle down or worried about buying a house right now.

In my neighborhood most high rises have to dedicate a specific amount of units to low income renters

those who can afford it hate that

You giving to much credence to folks 28 and up.

but us millennials and GenZ are very fickle and non committable. Our generation and them is really arguing against folks owning land and building “wealth” for you and yours to enjoy for generations and saying that’s white supremacy tactics.

I been really on the net trying to understand this movement and it’s bigger than you thank.

I'm giving more credence to people 28 and up because those are the people that are more likely to buy houses.

Younger people are always talking shit and making bold claims, and then when they get older and want to settle down and buy property. When I was in college, we had a straight up socialist and communist club at the school. I know a couple of them dudes and now that they are in their 40s their working corporate America. So I hear what you saying, but you can miss me with some shit that some 21 and 22 y/os have to say about buying property when most of them aren't even in a position to buy property anyway.

If it was that easy, we wouldn't have a housing problem in this country. Your reasoning reads like typical Republican "If you can't do something, it must be because you're not working hard enough" rhetoric.". If that's how you think, well have to agree to disagree because I don't feel like going into all the readings why that's wrong.
WTF are you talking about? Don't put in quotes something I didn't say to just ignore the point. I said people can get places all over the place, which is how it's always been. And like Dwayne said, people just want to be where everyone else is, and sometimes that's just not affordable. My first spot was grimey as hell because I had no money after school, but then you grow up and start planning for the future.

The answer to stopping housing costs is to st

Bruh, I'm not going to say this again. If you believe you that people move to popular cities because they just want to be where everyone else is, you don't know what you're talking about and there's not point in furthering this discussion. Don't respond to me again with these ignorant ass talking points.

You call people ignorant and keep not reading what they actually wrote. Where did I say "popular cities"? I said where everyone else is, largely because WITHIN cites you have different areas to live. My cousin has a big ass house in Lancaster out here, which is far cheaper than what it would cost in LA city limits. His commute is longer but that's what you do. I bounced around many areas until my career got going, that what you do as a damn adult.

How the fuck is a city where "everyone is" not a popular city. That's pretty much the definition of the word popular when used to describe a city.

And are you saying your cuz works in the LA area but lives in Lancaster? lol If you know anything about that area, you would know that's a dumbass point to make. Nobody should have to live 2 hours away from their job just to afford housing. Shit, I live in the DC area where commutes are bad, and there is no way in hell I'd live in Lancaster and work in LA.

Lancaster ain't 2 hours away, takes him a hour on the freeway. And that's upper valley, plenty of spots in the lower valley too. People commute from ALL over out here, because that's what you do. You can go east and find areas like Rancho Cucamonga. Or just find a spot within the city, that may be smaller but keep you close to work if you hate to drive.

I had to take the bus 90 minutes to and back each day during college. You do what you have to.

I go there a lot, and it pretty consistently takes me two hours to get from the airport to the heart of Lancaster, and I purposely make a point of arriving in the area when traffic is at its lightest. I know it takes even more than that when you're fighting traffic.

Also, I'm not really sure what we're even discussing here. Lancaster is better than L.A., but it ain't cheap. In fact, when you travel there for government work, the per diem is the same meaning the cost of living is around the same. That doesn't always match up with housing costs, but the point is, you're talking about moving at least 90 mins away (by your statement) just to afford a house from a city that supposedly has hundreds of vacant homes due to ridiculous housing costs and somehow that makes sense to you.

I remember when Woodbridge was the place to get a decent spot on the low. Now that shit damn near Alexandria/Arlington prices and you 45 min to an hour away from the city and that's without traffic.
Man the reality of the housing market in the DMV was something I was not ready for when I moved here.

I will say VA is just expensive overall tho…Woodbridge, even all the way out in Chantilly and Loudon county. Maryland homes are a bit more reasonable…but its in majority black counties (PG and Charles)…Montgomery County just like VA

I currently live in Alexandria proper…lets just say Im paying (renting) 4k for a crib thats the same size as my house in Alabama and my mortgage was 1200…

Crazy

You say plenty buy it’s only places everybody “want” o be cool/fun area.

maybe it’s because I live in Texas and use to driving. But you can live outside of Dallas and find a nice house for cheaper.

but I will say since everybody from the west coast and northeast trying to move here it’s causing even the outer areas prices are going up that’s because folks are buying houses way over value and my neighbor that lve in last week is proof. He offered the owner 50K over value for the house. He is from NY and part of the problem

I do wonder tho places like Montana Iowa Dakotas. If people started slowly moving to areas like that how culture and housing would change

I'm still lol @ niggas in here saying that people move to cities for fun. NoVA is about to open an Amazon depot and some other shit. People are moving up here because they hope to be able to find a damn job.
And these MFs paying big bags too

thats why I moved to NoVA

You already know what would happen really. Just look at the South. The place I grew up in South Carolina looks completely different now. More traffic, less undeveloped land, higher crime rates, and increased cost of living.
