BLACK WOMEN GRADUATE WITH MOST U.S. STUDENT LOAN DEBT

If my kids dont get full ride scholarships for college...

we going trade school or military.

my son is already tech savvy so im cultivating that with him now at 9 yrs old.

If he continues on this path....he will be studying for IT certs as much or even more than the ACT and SAT

GOAT.

My son is getting in tech so much every day and it has peaked his interest and im loving it.

He is very much into science as well and love actually trying to create things using items in the house and asking me to buy things/ingredients, beakers and shit I cant get to experiment with. Started off with making slime by himself and once he did that it was a wrap. He done fucked up his carpet, my rug and ruined so many towels with his experiments.

I never tell him no either when he wants to try to mix things he seen online or thing will work. I never use the word try in house I always tell you do and do it 100% and dont stop till its complete

I always love music & thought about audio production school. I seen the tuition price & didn't think twice afterwards. Forget that, I'll just apply at Youtube University & keep my $30,000

A solution imo would be to stop putting value in these degrees and stop going to these institutions. Male and female.

A degree for the most part is a status symbol and it's all about getting a job. We don't need a degree to be an entrepreneur and create our own businesses.

The problem imo is that as a people we look at what white folks do at the definition of success but when we play their game we just wind up with more debt than everyone. We are fully invested into a system of white supremacy that exploits us.

And something is backwards if a sista got all kinds of debt with a degree but looks down on a "broke nigga" without one. It's just one more thing that created more division in our relationships with each other.

All true.

Unless you're gonna be a Doctor, Lawyer, Accountant, or Teacher.......a degree really doesn't mean anything because those are the only 4 professions I can think of in which you have to have a degree to work in those fields.

People majoring in Business, Marketing, Communications, etc.......are really wasting their money because there are people working in those fields who don't have those respective degrees.

how can we fix this? Is it even a problem?

this is not a bashing thread.

just something i have been reading up on.

I have a family member who always throws around her degrees in a guys face....but shes 42 and single, has her own crib, cars, degrees, unstable job and debt.

Lol why mention her being single tho? Like damn just shitting on relatives.

Not every job needs a degree true but some do anything involving education especially. Not about what white folks do. Just the system.

I wanted to make video games

Why not anymore? That's a good field. I've thought about re-upping to some kind of writing field and going into games and other media. There's tons of demand. The gaming market dwarfs TV, cinema, and pornography

I still do but id view it as a hobby turned career type of thing. Ive read its a sheisty ass business overall but thats probably anything. I got stories and concepts for days i just need to learn some programming and go from there.

Combine it with love of history hmmmmm

Got my degree in PoliSci and Philosophy.

Professionally, it hasn't done anything for me but I definitely wouldn't be the man I am without those courses and adjacent experiences.

That's a part of the problem, that it's a worthwhile experience that's been jacked up in price excessively.

Look at Malcolm X vs Farrakhan. Both highly intelligent, educated, and accomplished men. X had an elementary education vs Farrakhan who had college ed but didn't finish.

I see what you're doing @threadstarter but I don't know where you're going with these threads.

Facts its the experience folks want and need. Shouldnt have to go broke for it tho

I agree if you're saying that this problem isn't exclusive to black women.

He probably titled the thread that way because a lot of them are always bragging about their degrees.

Other than that, everything else he said was on point.

I bet it ain’t. I’m trying to be a teacher, so I need the degree but that damn debt can’t be worth it.

The US need to hop on that free education wave. I don’t know why people should have to pay to learn some shit. Half my classes felt like shit i could’ve lived without knowing.
the problem is when its free...that gives access to black people.
it levels the playing feild.

when it costs.....and what it costs...it puts it out of reach for black people..

so they only want "smart " black people to have access. yet dumb ass white people can have that same education access because they have the money.
