It's already federal. The 1968 gun control act made it illegal. At the federal level, "prohibited persons" are not allowed to own/possess a gun. It goed further to define what a "prohibited person" is and two of the stipulations are:

The federal Gun Control Act of 1968, codified at 18 U.S.C. § 922, generally prohibits the sale to, and possession of firearms by, a person who:

• Is subject to an active court order restraining them from harassing, stalking or threatening an intimate partner, their child, or a child of a partner, or from engaging in other conduct that would place an intimate partner in reasonable fear of bodily injury to the partner or child
• Has been convicted of a misdemeanor offense of domestic violence

So we been done had it.

I'd have to look, but I think there's something in the verbiage that allows some folks to slip through.

You do have to be convicted tho, an arrest ain't enough.

The ppo/restraining order prohibit you as well. Dont kmow if its nationwide, but here in MI if you have one against you, that info is in the state police lein system and will pop up if you try and purchase.

yeah I think the whole ppo thing has to be included in the check and that's done at the state level.

It looks like the loophole is gonna be private sales because they don't go through the background process EXCEPT in states that require it (like they do here in Nevada). So a person with a DV conviction can still buy a gun from a private seller.
