The Equalizer 3

E for Entertaining

PRAISE: Denzel Washington returns as Robert McCall who in part 3 of the series goes head to head with the Camorra a brutal Italian crime organization.
Not only does Washington return but is reunited with his former Co star from 19 years ago in the movie Man on Fire Dakota Fanning. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall for their on set conversations. Their scenes together and banter in this film brought a smile to my face.
Washington brings his flawless, quiet intensity to the role once again.
There was definitely a 2010 movie The American vibe throughout the movie which I really liked. The villains in the movie are ultra sadistic so the violence is intense and then some, and I'm definitely not saying McCall plays nice with them when he makes them worm food.
There are nice touches along the way linked to the characters portrayed by Gaia Scodellaro and Remo Girone .

PROBLEMS: While the crimes the criminals were carrying out were interesting and their methods were intense and unnerving they mainly came off generic.
How some things played out in the movie were basic and then some. I found a couple of story threads to be very predictable.

Aliens and Angst

PRAISE: I thought this was an interesting and enjoyable take on the alien invasion theme. The movie mainly focuses on a couple of families and how the invasion effects them financially as the aliens called Vuvv become more and more domineering pushing humans to ultra acts of desperation. The way the Vuvv look and communicate was interesting and funny. It was interesting to see how much domination and colonization the characters would put up with. Tiffany Haddish is pretty good in this and she also executive produced the film.
I thought the chemistry between Asante Blackk and Kylie Rogers was great. There's an all too brief appearance from William Jackson Harper. There are some very funny visuals and comedic moments. I thought the commentary on societal issues was pretty good.

PROBLEMS: The film starts to run out of steam in its last 30 minutes. I thought the great build up would lead to a more satisfying conclusion but it never reaches a completely satisfying enough point.

Werewolf Woes

PRAISE: Jae Matthews story about Heather a woman who is forced by her overbearing parents to keep her lycanthropy a secret, until she begins to fall in love with a figure skater is very stylish with a cool late 1980s early 1990s vibe to it. There's definitely a Let The Right One In feel around the edges of the movie that I enjoyed. There's some moments that are visually stunning. Bobbi Salvör Menuez and Amandla Stenberg have great. chemistry. Stephen Mchattie was great as Heathers father.I thought the family story was done well. I thought the metaphors worked well in the film.

PROBLEMS: The pacing could have been better. So many scenes are repetitive. I can always tell when a film is limited by its budget and in this film the limits truly standout. I wanted the movie to lean on its horror thread more.
