The official COVID-19/Coronavirus Discussion Thread...aka I hope I don't get the Rona

Bruh, COVID-19 is nothing unknown. Coronaviruses come and go all the time, and they have been beaten with and without vaccines. You're acting like you're some kinda prognosticator since your predicted an outcome of that was obvious. Again, we aren't where we are because established epidemiology failed. We're here because at no point during this entire pandemic did we ever have a sustained effort to implement the measures recommended. However, we have more than enough examples of cases where the measures were implemented on small scales for good results.

Now, if your argument was that we never could have implemented those measures on a large enough scale to make a difference, then you might be right. I don't know if it's true or not, it's plausible. However, I do think it's bullshit that people keep acting like some deep point was proven by our current predicament when the reality is that our predicament is largely the result of ignorance and stupidity more than the failure of any particular initiative to stop the virus.

Obviously there have been different ‘Corona’ viruses - which came and went - never did I state that wasn’t the case and again, you’re the one here that stated that this virus - which differs from its predecessors / relatives - could have been beaten and it’s spread halted, even stated what you do for a living and I simply stated that was impossible and complete bullshit due to the pandemic situation worldwide back in the early days of 2020.

Now unless your think tank employment source came from Wuhan during December 2019, your jobs mission was futile to begin with cause like you stated that I’m stating the obvious: there was no way in hell considering the diverse and everything but unified state of the world in 2020 that a respiratory virus more contagious than Influenza could have been halted or beaten when scientists globally already stated it would be endemic.

Youre even kicking in open doors yourself with ‘those measures could have not been implemented on a large scale’ , ofcourse they couldnt, from Holland to Indonesia , Morocco to Japan and Brazil, all those countries with their different forms of government and different CDCs and different ministries of health have all been implementing different measurements even using different forms of medical science for the same damn virus . Your think tank could have had the holy grail to actually do the impossible and beat the Rona but half the world wouldn’t follow your shit because we live in a divided world.

so unless your think tank is actually based in Hollywood …

And for the record, a lot of folks worldwide - and in this thread - actually believed the ’vaccines’ would get them out of the pandemic and when folks stated that those assumptions were bullshit based on ’obvious outcomes‘ those folks were scrutinized, belittled, labeled conspiracy theorists and - for whatever reason - censored .

And a lot of folks, even in this thread, think the vaccines are wholly ineffective and are just a money grab from the major corporations. Some even go as far to say the pandemic was never as bad as the experts said it was.

There’s 2 sides to this and to only highlight the one side confirms biases.

I know the corporations are eating big off of this shit and I didn’t think the whole booster situation was needed when first announced. That was confirmed when the FDA initially backed off approving the booster. I’m still on the fence about the booster today seeing as Omicron doesn’t seem to be as deadly as prior variants. And I don’t agree with even more boosters until some shit is confirmed to be more deadly.

I try my best to see both sides but I’m not going to renounce my logic to seem impartial or be arrogant enough to think I’m smarter than the experts.

and since y’all are talking about ‘half measures’, ignorance and stupidity in general: Y’all got the power of hindsight now, which measurements could have stlopped and beaten a respiratory virus more contagious than Influenza - with all its endemic features - which Covid 19 is?

what realistic options did y’all have during the early months of 2020? 7 billion people not leaving their houses for a months wouldn’t even have worked lol but y’all got it…

You're acting like this "We are the world" approach was necessary. It wasn't. What you fail to realize is that the current severity isn't the same everywhere and hasn't been.

All that's irrelevant though. The point is that the measures needed to beat the pandemic weren't as deep or extensive as you're making it claim. Even if you go back and look at the national maps in the thick of the pandemic before the vaccines came out, you'll see that there were always pockets that did well during the pandemic, and there were points where we got pretty close to being over the hump. So you saying it' was impossible is dumb. As bad as we were, we were tending towards overcoming the pandemic. The turn came when politicians buckled to pressure and opened things too soon. That's when surges started. The same happened in places like Norway and New Zealand where they basically had the virus contained.

So again, if you want to say that we were always doomed because people were going to never do right, then fine, but that's not the same as saying that this virus was something that couldn't have been overcome. That's not true.

and we’ve been here before: From a medically scientific perspective, if youre not part of the ‘risk group‘ there Is no need to take a vaccine at all. Remember how natural immunity was frowned upon in the states while EU countries and others embraced it? where I’m at you arent even allowed to get vaccinated for Covid if you were infected 90 days prior… So assuming you for example already had Covid, and you’re living where I’m living right now, you would or could be ‘unvaccinated’ like me aswell… cause the experts / the CDC and ministry of health and the ‘outbreak management team’ stated as such…The QR rona passport is discriminatory but the QR code itself can be obtained through infection/recovery or vaccination lol smh… Different country… different policies.

Vaccinating children for Covid is completely unnecessary. It’s not in interest of the child to get vaccinated just cause an at risk group person doesn’t want to get a vaccine etc. believe it or not but the Dutch narrative has always been that the 99% protect the 1% (risk groups) …

Now America is renown for its low quality healthcare and many at risk groups - overweight and what not people - which obviously suits a virus like a covid… But people don’t wanna talk about the Sorry state - and lack of investments - in the US healthcare system…

and the world is actually grander than those couple hundred million Americans though and for most people worldwide - like a billion children - it is medically completely unnecessary and due to the grand scale of things it isnt just a ‘money grab’ but damn criminal.

ah the unrealistic ‘New Zealand’ and Norwegia examples: isolated by nature, extremely low population density, obviously what worked for them would work in high population density, transit nations like The Netherlands their neighbors and oh wait…

come on man, this shit spread all over the mainland Europe (half a billion people ) like wildfire within a couple weeks… we didnt have a chance.

I actually don’t disagree with a lot of what you say in this post. Hell, I’ve been on the side of open everything up and the people who choose to not get vaccinated take their own risks. People were actually calling for everything to be closed for the few at risk and those who refused the vaccine.

When there was a chance to beat the virus with vaccines I did think everyone should get it so we could open back up, but once we opened back up I was like fuck it.

Ever sense then I’ve just been calling out shit that doesn’t make sense to me.

and this shit is the problem: some random celebrity sending out extremely polarizing as shit and people picking sides…

instead of respecting Djokovic‘s decision - dude literally is the Nr.1 ranked Tennis player in the world right now and an Australian judge backed his position - some influencer has to spread hate …

You keep on telling me what happened while leaving out the fact that many of those countries in mainland Europe didn't do much better than us when it came to implementing routines. And if you don't like Netherlands or New Zealand, go look at North Korea, Japan, and some of the Middle Eastern and South American countries that implemented heavy restrictions on movement early on.

You keep saying we never had a chance while coming up the flimsiest excuses to ignore the fact that we did. Again, if all you're saying is that realistically, we were never going to get all the knuckleheads in the world to comply long enough to win the war, then fine. However, if you're saying that it was logistically impossible to have overcome COVID-19, most people who study diseases don't agree with you, and I'm going to trust their insight over yours.

It’s always fuck an influencer’s opinion for me, whether I agree with them or not. People need to stop even putting stock into what any of them say.

Look fam, in theory you‘re right, just like in theory there could be world peace and an end to world hunger and what not but the reality was - and regrettably still is - that mofos weren’t ready, even when the virus spread all over Europe and the hospitals started to admission Rona patients, the Dutch government still downplayed the virus and we had our annual Carnaval and shit with no fucks given smh.

I know you’re a Thanos fan so I’ll make an Infinity War reference, the rona collected all the damn stones and did the snap before everyone realized what was going on.

and now you’re just acting like Dr. Strange in this bitch talking about ‘there is only one way!’.

Those are my closing arguments btw, we can agree to disagree, we live in different worlds.
