Akon: Africans no longer care about slavery but African Americans still blame the past

hard to move on from something that still affects you to this day. the legacy of chattel slavery is enmeshed in every facet of society so no, akon, whose family migrated over here in a country that was already built by the ancestors of Black americans doesnt get to tell us to get over something.

Saying get over it is easiest thing to say. Literally any child can say that.

Also, suggesting 'get over it' implies effects don't still exist and don't haunt us in real life currently. Not only that, but people say that as if we didn't already play the hand we was dealt....what you mean 'get over it'? The black angels before us fought to make it easier on us today the best they could, you think they undid 400 years worth of dmg in that short period of time? There's still progress to be made...this a process. Everything happens on God time, you can't just pretend it's just a matter a snapping the finger and *poof* it's alright now. It's only been a hot 50 years since the civil rights act was passed.

Listennnnnnnnnnnn

It's not just africans tho, most immigrants be on that shit.

They arrived in the states after black americans already did all the work, opened all the doors for yall mfs to benefit from and then have the audacity to judge the condition of black americans.

Meanwhile yall still can trace your whole family tree back, you have the option to go back "home" whenever you want. We don't have a history, we don't have a home. What you're seeing is the result of hundreds of years of slavery.

Akon saying "black americans need to get over it" pissed me df off.

The same Black Americans who bought his albums and made his azzz rich? Hilarious.

How bout he tell Jewish people the holocaust happened decades ago, and to get over it. That's right...he won't.

Or tell women who were raped/sexually abuse years ago to get over it. That's right...he won't.

I mean.....akon made nice songs.

That's all it took.

We really need to understand how easy it is to get at us. How easy we support while getting nothing in return.

Don't be mad at him.....We need to tighten up

I swear, most times when the fucked up situation of blacks in America is brought up in a discussion, some people (mainly whites) love finding the success stories of POC from some developing nation as evidence that the only reason why black people here are poor, is because they dont work hard enough because theyre lazy. Or that we arnt really poor, were exaggerating because we're greedy with entitlement issues and not grateful for what we have. Over the years I've heard and seen (again mainly white people) try to push that narrative time and time again and it seems like other groups are picking it up too. A nice amount of them also like to complain about kids at school that get free or reduced lunch. Their complaint being mainly white people pay full price but these black kids have sneakers and cell phone but dont really pay anything. Worst part is a lot of the people who make these comments claim to be teachers.

These are the same adults with prejudice something as dumb as students with free & reduced lunch, that we're leaving in charge of teaching & grading kids of color in a classroom. If they're uptight about something insignificant like that, what other mental gymnastics are they putting those kids through that make them wanna quit school.

When you compare someone who had none of something to then gets a little, of course theyre going to see it as an upgrade. But those same people wouldnt be as happy if everyone was promised the same amount, but then they look over and keep seeing a certain group getting more and of a higher quality. They'd rightfully complain. Not hold their head down and say to themselves "I know theyre getting more for no reason, but this is better than nothing i guess", while smiling.

I wonder of they'd keep this same energy if we went to some of these countries or tribes and told their ethnic minorities to get over their beefs with the ethnic or tribal majority.

africans come to america and start getting on their high horse. shit irks me

you came here for a better opportunity and wish to shit on the ppl that made that possible for you?

lmaoooo the audacity

Yea I feel like that when any immigrant group pulls this mess. It’s like if I went to Nigeria and told them get over colonialism which lead to a slew of conflicts.

He's right.

They never had a reason to care about slavery because it didn't affect them.

Which is why I don't understand why so many people over here have an affinity for Africa.

For the most part, they don't really care about us either way.

This is false slave trade made a lot of nations much weaker and easier to be preyed on.

My thing is when any immigrant from a non white nation says these things I’m always confused on why colonialism is not brought up when it was also based on racism.

You misunderstood my post.

I was saying that they didn't care about us because the conditions we were living in didn't affect them.

It wasn't a statement about the overall ramifications of the slave trade.

Just saying that they never had a reason to care about us or how we were living.

Some of y'all in here bugging.

But everyone is right.

I'll go into detail more later....But we in America have more opportunities and with those opportunities we can purchase land and influence in africa.

It's really that simple
