but we acting like this hasn’t been an issue for decades. No it not every mc but most people ain’t looking for every mc they going by radio and used to go by videos. So she exaggerated we know she don’t mean all literally

I don't know that she didn't mean literally. Sure we can assume that, but if so, what purpose was served by trying to start a serious conversation with a pointless exaggeration? On topic, I'm not really sure what the solution is. Artists make the music that they are a) capable of making and b) sells. Some of these dudes making harmful music do so because they really don't have the talent to do otherwise. (b) is really the issue. If misogyny, violence, and other problematic themes in music are an issue, people should stop supporting it. I get that's what she's saying when she says cancel it, but this isn't something like a clothing line with a owner that is secretly racist. People know exactly what they are supporting. How do you get the masses to cancel something they don't really have a problem with?

She didn't say rap needed to be cancelled. She said the misogyny in rap needs to be cancelled...which isn't exactly a bad thing to say. There's alot wrong with her post, but saying that misogyny shouldn't be such a consistent topic in music ain't it. Also if majority of people can see the point she was trying to make, then getting caught up in the delivery is doing exactly what a good portion of ya'll often speak against, which is getting so caught up in how the message is being delivered that you miss the message itself. It's been agreed on that she could've presented the point she was making in a better way, but that there is an overall discussion to be had when it comes to type of music pushed to the forefront in hip-hop alot of the time.

*shrugs* I always say these people point out things in a stupid way. Framing matters. We shouldn't have to take a person's comment in a particular way for it not to be dumb. Again, she said that she can only listen to female rappers because of the misogyny. That implies that it is so pervasive among male rappers that you can't find any who aren't misogynistic. That framing is a problem because it overlooks potential fixes for her issue. For example, we could start doing a better job of promoting the artists that don't make such music. We could also highlight those artist and implore other artists to follow their lead. Neither of those are an option if the complaint is basically making it seem like there are no nonmisogynistic male rappers out there. So you're right, it's a real issue that needs to be discussed and handled, but ya'll have to admit these people coming out and saying shit in incendiary ways just to stir up shit isn't productive. If they didn't do that, the conversation wouldn't be deflected.

That's already been done. It was addressed initially. To continue to do so is to purposely try and distract from the discussion of what the vast majority were able to decipher from her message. And it seems as if you know what her actual point was even with the exaggeration so what's the point of focusing on that instead of the actual discussion...which is misogyny often being pushed to the forefront of rap from both men and women?

Just because I or you or a handful of other people know something, doesn't mean everyone or everyone she was trying to reach knows it. You also answered your own question. Why focus on the bad delivery? Because if people stopped delivering things badly, there would never be a reason to focus on the bad delievery. I don't understand why there is so much pushback on that concept. There are 100 more constructive ways she could have put what she said. At this point, it's naive to act like people are just innocently exaggerating shit. She was purposely being combative and that serves no purpose and definitely doesn't help her cause.

As to the substance of the matter, I don't think you'll get rid of the misogyny in rap until you get the people that support it to understand how negative it is. You're not going to do that by browbeating them for liking it. Again, that's why I'm saying the framing matters.

In this thread there was a pretty clear understanding of what she was attempting to say. I'm not saying to ignore the delivery. I've said many times how a message is delivered matters and am often met with disagreement on that. So I'm not ignoring it at all. Which is why it's funny some who say delivery doesnt matter in previous threads are now singing different but that's anotjer topic. But I also believe that if you know what somebody is trying to say then yes you can and should critique the delivery but to stop there is being intellectually dishonest. It's a way to avoid the actual issue attempting to be discussed. Like we get it. The delivery was off. That's been established multiple times and doesnt need to continue to be the focus at this point is all I'm saying. To keep doing so serves no other purpose but to avoid actually talking about the topic

Fair enough, but I wasn't just critiquing the delivery for the sake of it. I admitted there was a problem, and I think the delivery actually detracts from ways that the problem might be solved. Again, you have to get people to see why the misogyny in rap is bad and not just harmless entertainment. You'll never accomplish that with these kinds of comments.

Cut the shit

She could've said " I would like if my black kings would make more music uplighting my fellow black queens" and y'all would've still had an issue with what she was saying
But she didn't say that now did she so miss me with that nonsense

You call black women "females" against their expressed discontent.
