Mcnulty was all excited he lost his kids having them follow stringer in the market. How the oldest one pulled stringer's license plate.
Even Bunk was like "Cmon Jimmy? You're kids."
Lester told Jimmy the job won't save him. Jimmy realized Lester was right. After Stringer got killed and they closed the case Jimmy was depressed he ain't have nothing else to go home to.
4th season he was on foot patrol. In a happy relationship no more drinking and living a balanced life.
Daniels who was now major in the Western tried pulling Mcnulty off the street into detective work. Said he was too good to be humping police cars.
McNulty turned it down. Daniels laughed and acknowledged that being a foot patrol officer was best for him
Yeah they was getting nowhere in that case until mcnulty came through

Freeman is BY FAR the best detective, and the show goes thru many lengths to show this.
1st he shows up McNulty at the beginning of the case, then he councils kima on proper policing, and by the end of the 1st season he has taken 3 humps that no one else wanted (Carver, presbo, and Sidnor) and got them tracking down B&B shell companies all over town.
McNulty meanwhile corrupts kima and presbo at every turn, always taking shortcuts to get the job done, eventually dragging Freeman down with him by season 5.

Just in season 1. He had potential but was still green. He says as much at the end of the case.
He wasnt getting no run on the team until Freeman taught him how to follow the paper trail.
Remember he was in another division, Daniels requested him because he was one of the best detectives to balance having to take on the worst detective in Presbo

I'm with you. He had the want just not the know how for such a large scale case. Bubbles teaching him about the crack viles was another example of that.
So let's not call him wack, let's just say Freeman saw the potential in him (and carver and presbo) and cultivated it.
I didn't like how for four seasons Lester was good police doing things the right way and then all of a sudden switch up and did what he did in season 5

When did Bodie switch up, he stayed the same throughout. He never snitched, he was only killed because he was cool with McNulty who got him out of lock up.
