Soooo...by her logic...she's blaming HERSELF for being sexually assaulted? Its HER FAULT what she put herself in a position to be sexually abused?

What...a...time
Was having this discussion with the Mrs. earlier. Yes, a woman needs to be careful to not put herself in compromising situations. In no way does that mean it's ok for a man to sexually assault her in those situations. Men need to control themselves and these nasty muthafuckas just can't help themselves.

I equated it to walking through a bad neighborhood where you know people get robbed and killed. Maybe you shouldn't go there, but it's still a crime for someone to rob or kill you.

Kavanaugh’s Yale Friend Says He Drunkenly Started Fight, Landed Friend In Jail

Charles Ludington, a classmate and friend of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh at Yale, told the Washington Post that Kavanaugh was an “aggressive” drunk who once started a fight that landed a mutual friend in jail.

“When Brett got drunk, he was often belligerent and aggressive,” Ludington said in a statement. “On one of the last occasions I purposely socialized with Brett, I witnessed him respond to a semi-hostile remark, not by defusing the situation, but by throwing his beer in the man’s face and starting a fight that ended with one of our mutual friends in jail.”

Ludington added that he does not think “heavy drinking” or “loutish behavior” done in youth should haunt Kavanaugh forever, but he was disturbed when he watched Kavanaugh’s performance before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“If he lied about his past actions on national television, and more especially while speaking under oath in front of the United States Senate, I believe those lies should have consequences,” Ludington told the Post.

Ludington is not Kavanaugh’s only Yale classmate to publicly contradict his testimony about his collegiate behavior.

On Saturday, classmate Liz Swisher said that she did not find his answers during the hearing “credible.” Kavanaugh’s freshman roommate James Roche said last week that he was a “notably heavy drinker” and also said that he was “aggressive” and “belligerent” when drunk.

Yale Classmate Recalls Kavanaugh As Frequent, Heavy Drinker

WASHINGTON (AP) — FBI agents interviewed one of the three women who have accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct as Republicans and Democrats quarreled over whether the bureau would have enough time and freedom to conduct a thorough investigation before a high-stakes vote on his nomination to the nation’s highest court.

The White House insisted it was not “micromanaging” the new one-week review of Kavanaugh’s background but some Democratic lawmakers claimed the White House was keeping investigators from interviewing certain witnesses. President Donald Trump, for his part, tweeted that no matter how much time and discretion the FBI was given, “it will never be enough” for Democrats trying to keep Kavanaugh off the bench.

And even as the FBI explored the past allegations that have surfaced against Kavanaugh, another Yale classmate came forward to accuse the federal appellate judge of being untruthful in his testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee about the extent of his drinking in college.

In speaking to FBI agents, Deborah Ramirez detailed her allegation that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a party in the early 1980s when they were students at Yale University, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to publicly discuss details of a confidential investigation.

Kavanaugh has denied Ramirez’s allegation.

The person familiar with Ramirez’s questioning, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said she also provided investigators with the names of others who she said could corroborate her account.

But Christine Blasey Ford, a California professor who says Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when they were teenagers, has not been contacted by the FBI since Trump on Friday ordered the agency to take another look at the nominee’s background, according to a member of Ford’s team.

Kavanaugh has denied assaulting Ford.

In a statement released Sunday, a Yale classmate of Kavanaugh’s said he is “deeply troubled by what has been a blatant mischaracterization by Brett himself of his drinking at Yale.” Charles “Chad” Ludington, who now teaches at North Carolina State University, said he was a friend of Kavanaugh’s at Yale and that Kavanaugh was “a frequent drinker, and a heavy drinker.”

“On many occasions I heard Brett slur his words and saw him staggering from alcohol consumption, not all of which was beer. When Brett got drunk, he was often belligerent and aggressive,” Ludington said. While saying that youthful drinking should not condemn a person for life, Ludington said he was concerned about Kavanaugh’s statements under oath before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Speaking to the issue of the scope of the FBI’s investigation, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said White House counsel Don McGahn, who is managing Kavanaugh’s nomination, “has allowed the Senate to dictate what these terms look like, and what the scope of the investigation is.”

“The White House isn’t intervening. We’re not micromanaging this process. It’s a Senate process. It has been from the beginning, and we’re letting the Senate continue to dictate what the terms look like,” Sanders said.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said the investigation will be “limited in scope” and “will not be a fishing expedition. The FBI is not tasked to do that.”

Senate Judiciary Committee member Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., requested an investigation last Friday — after he and other Republicans on the panel voted along strict party lines in favor of Kavanaugh’s confirmation — as a condition for his own subsequent vote to put Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court.

Another committee member, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Sunday that testimony would be taken from Ramirez and Kavanaugh’s high school friend Mark Judge, who has been named by two of three women accusing Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.

“I think that will be the scope of it. And that should be the scope of it,” Graham said.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, called on the White House and the FBI to provide the written directive regarding the investigation’s scope. In a letter Sunday, she also asked for updates on any expansion of the original directive.

Sen. Susan Collins said Sunday she is confident in the investigation and “that the FBI will follow up on any leads that result from the interviews.” The Maine Republican supports the new FBI investigation and is among a few Republican and Democratic senators who have not announced a position on Kavanaugh.

Republicans control 51 seats in the closely divided 100-member Senate and cannot afford to lose more than one vote on confirmation.

Collins and Flake spoke throughout the weekend.

Senate Republicans discussed the contours of the investigation with the White House late Friday, according to a person familiar with the call who was not authorized to discuss it publicly.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., had gathered Judiciary Committee Republicans in his office earlier. At that time, the scope of the investigation was requested by Flake, Collins and Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, said McConnell’s spokesman Don Stewart.

Murkowski is not on the committee, but also has not announced how she will vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

Republicans later called the White House to discuss the scope of the probe, the person said.

McConnell’s office declined to elaborate Sunday on which allegations would be investigated, reiterating only that it would focus on “current credible allegations.”

Stewart said the investigation’s scope “was set” by the three GOP senators Friday and “has not changed.”

But Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, a Judiciary Committee member, doubted how credible the investigation will be, given the time limit.

“That’s bad enough, but then to limit the FBI as to the scope and who they’re going to question, that – that really – I wanted to use the word farce, but that’s not the kind of investigation that all of us are expecting the FBI to conduct,” she said.

Trump initially opposed such an investigation as allegations began mounting but relented and ordered one on Friday. He later said the FBI has “free rein.”

“They’re going to do whatever they have to do, whatever it is they do. They’ll be doing things that we have never even thought of,” Trump said Saturday as he departed the White House for a trip to West Virginia. “And hopefully at the conclusion everything will be fine.”

He revisited the “scope” question later Saturday on Twitter, writing in part, “I want them to interview whoever they deem appropriate, at their discretion.”

Sanders said Trump, who has vigorously defended Kavanaugh but also raised the slight possibility of withdrawing the nomination should damaging information be found, “will listen to the facts.”

At least three women have accused Kavanaugh of years-ago misconduct. He denies all the claims.

The third woman, Julie Swetnick, accused Kavanaugh and Judge of excessive drinking and inappropriate treatment of women in the early 1980s, among other accusations.

Kavanaugh has called her accusations a “joke.” Judge has said he “categorically” denies the allegations.

Swetnick’s attorney, Michael Avenatti, said Saturday that his client had not been contacted by the FBI but was willing to cooperate with investigators.

Ford also has said Judge was in the room when a drunken Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her. Judge has said he will cooperate with any law enforcement agency that will “confidentially investigate” sexual misconduct allegations against him and Kavanaugh. Judge has also denied misconduct allegations.

Sanders spoke on “Fox News Sunday,” Conway appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” and Graham and Hirono were interviewed on ABC’s “This Week.”

Mitchell Pokes Holes In Ford Testimony: ‘No Reasonable Prosecutor’ Would Bring Case

In a memo sent to Senate Republicans on Sunday, Rachel Mitchell, the prosecutor hired by the GOP to question Christine Blasey Ford during the hearing with Brett Kavanaugh last week, said the allegations against Kavanaugh are “even weaker” than a typical “he said, she said” case, according to a memo obtained by the Washington Post.

Mitchell, after describing her analysis as being strictly from a legal perspective, said that “no reasonable prosecutor” would bring a case against Kavanaugh based on Blasey Ford’s recollection of the alleged sexual assault in high school.

“A ‘he said, she said’ case is incredibly difficult to prove,” she wrote. “But this case is even weaker than that. Dr. Ford identified other witnesses to the event, and those witnesses either refuted her allegations or failed to corroborate them. For the reasons discussed below, I do not think that a reasonable prosecutor would bring this case based on the evidence before the committee.”

She then proceeded to outline holes she saw in Blasey Ford’s testimony.

Mitchell, a longtime investigator of years-old sex crimes, was retained by Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans to question Blasey Ford in their stead.

Outrage Grows As Omissions From Kavanaugh Probe Become Apparent

The limit on the list of people the FBI plans to talk to about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s past, as well as the difficulty many would-be witnesses are facing in their attempts to contribute their information, is raising Democratic hackles.

According to a Sunday New Yorker article, multiple people have tried to go to the FBI with pertinent information about Kavanaugh, only to be stymied by seemingly unorganized and uninterested agents.

One of these potential witnesses is Elizabeth Rasor, an ex-girlfriend of Mark Judge. Rasor says that Judge told her about an episode where he and his friends “took turns” having sex with a drunk woman, an act that seems to mirror Kavanaugh’s third accuser, Julie Swetnick’s, allegation. Judge has also been accused by professor Christine Blasey Ford of being an accomplice to Kavanaugh during a separate alleged sexual assault.

Another is an unnamed Yale classmate who wanted to corroborate Deborah Ramirez’s accusation that Kavanaugh had exposed himself to her at a college party. “I thought it was going to be an investigation, but instead it seems it’s just an alibi for Republicans to vote for Kavanaugh,” the unnamed Yale classmate told the New Yorker.

Both Rasor and the unnamed Yale classmate were allegedly stonewalled by the FBI, eventually being told to leave their accounts with an 800-number tip line.

According to the New Yorker, Blasey Ford herself also has tried to cooperate with the FBI, but per her attorney has “heard nothing back.”

A Sunday Washington Post report added that, per an unnamed U.S. official, the FBI does not intend to interview Swetnick or anybody who was not present during the first two alleged episodes.

Some are reacting with publicly-released letters.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, sent a letter to White House counsel Don McGahn and FBI Director Christopher Wray asking for a copy of the scope of limitations the White House initially gave the FBI, as well as any amendments that have since been added.

Some Georgetown Prep alumni are also taking their demands public, per the Washington Post, calling upon high school classmates of Kavanaugh’s to come forward with any information about the alleged sexual assaults or pertinent “background” information, no matter the “personal cost.”

Alan Dershowitz: Kavanaugh Presumed Guilty Because ‘He’s a White Man, She’s a Survivor’

After watching this clip one wonders if the Martha’s Vineyard social life of Alan Dershowitz is going to get lonelier.

Appearing on Fox & Friends this morning the Harvard Law professor — who self-identifies as a Democrat — ridiculed his fellow party members who dismiss the need for the due process to look into sexual allegations potentially derailing the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh.

At issue is the existential role of the Senate Judicial Hearings before which Kavanaugh and his accuser Dr. Christine Ford testified last week. Was that a criminal trial which brings the presumption of innocence? Or is it a fair assessment of one character and grace under pressure, akin to a “job interview” as has been suggested by Democrats.

Well the job interview is a myth, said Dershowitz, claiming “if it was a job interview you don’t start with job interview half the potential employers saying they won’t hire you under any circumstances. Once a person is accused publicly of specific, focused crimes that are career-destroying, that job interview metaphor disappears. You have to prove the allegations by clear and convincing evidence with due process.”

He then established the hypothetical situation in which a “liberal Democrat” would appoint the first Muslim-American to the Supreme Court and had to deal with terrorist allegations from teenaged years. ‘You can’t presume the guilt of terrorism,” he claimed, adding “the burden of proof is so heavy, but when the shoe is on the other foot when it is a white man being accused by the left of sexual offenses all the rules are called off.”

In Dershowitz’s esteem, there is a double standard at play, suggesting that the left is saying “We know he is guilty because he is a white man, she’s a woman, she is a survivor. That is the end of the inquiry.”

The unfair playing of “identity politics” is a consistent theme on Fox News conservative opinion programs. It’s not clear if Dershowitz’s suggestion that Kavanaugh is being treated unfairly because of his race and gender will lead prime-time programming of Fox News tonight, but we aren’t counting on that.

https://www.mediaite.com/tv/watch-j...o-ripping-judge-animal-house-brett-kavanaugh/

John Oliver Dedicates Entire Episode to Ripping ‘Judge Animal House’ Brett Kavanaugh

John Oliver dedicated an entire episode of Last Week Tonight to dissecting — and brutally mocking — Brett Kavanaugh‘s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

“We need to talk about Brett Kavanaugh, Supreme Court nominee and walking crushed beer can,” Oliver started. The HBO host took a look at Christine Blasey Ford‘s “brave and compelling” testimony, before moving on to Kavanaugh’s — which was, per Oliver, just “weird.”

“He’s crying at the memory of lifting weights at his friend Tobin’s house!” Oliver said. “I hate to say it, but I’m starting to think that men might be too emotional for the Supreme Court…”

Oliver noted that Kavanaugh became “outright hostile” when Sen. Amy Klobuchar questioned him on his alcohol consumption, and fired back at the Democrat by asking if she ever blacked out from drinking.

“OK, so first, aside from being deeply disrespectful, have you is just not the answer of an innocent person. If you ask someone if they ever blew a dog and they go, ‘I don’t know, have you?’ That person blew a dog! He blew a fucking dog. And in all likelihood not just one, either,” Oliver joked. “That surly tone was emblematic of Kavanaugh’s demeanor throughout the hearing—not the tone of a man who hopes to one day have the honor of serving on the Supreme Court, but the tone of someone who feels entitled to be on it, and frankly can’t believe that you’re being such a dick about this.”

Oliver also argued Kavanaugh was “significantly misstating the facts” when he characterized the evidence corroborating Ford’s account of the party where she claims he assaulted her.

Oliver then went after Kavanaugh for his “Trumpian” strategy of claiming a grand leftwing conspiracy orchestrated to smear him.

“It is worth taking a moment now to note the norm that has just been shattered, because I know that we’re all basically callous to people talking that way now, but we are supposed to have at least nine people left in America who do not talk that way, and yet Kavanaugh just all but came out and said that he’s going to approach his entire tenure as one giant case of ’me vs. the fucking libtard cucks,” Oliver said.

POTUS’ Africa Remarks May Snarl FLOTUS’ First International Solo Trip

WASHINGTON (AP) — First lady Melania Trump heads for Africa on her first big solo international trip, aiming to make child well-being the focus of a five-day, four-country tour that will take her to every corner of the vast and impoverished continent.

Departing on Monday, she opens her first-ever visit to Africa on Tuesday in Ghana in the West, followed by stops in Malawi in the South, Kenya in the East and Egypt in the Northeast.

Her first extended turn on the world stage outside the shadow of President Donald Trump could still be complicated by her husband, who has spoken of the continent in impolite and even vulgar terms.

That leaves the first lady with some fence-mending duties.

“She’s got some heavy lifting to do on this trip and it’s a little bit unfair because that’s not what a first lady’s trip should be about,” said Judd Devermont, the Africa program director at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. First ladies usually practice a softer form of diplomacy, showing interest in a host nation’s schools, hospitals and arts programs, and avoiding thornier issues.

Joshua Meservey, a senior Africa policy analyst at the Heritage Foundation, countered by noting the “positive engagements” the president has had with some African heads of state, including President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, who met with Trump at the White House in late August. Trump also met last week in New York with President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi of Egypt.

Meservey also noted that the U.S. spends considerable amounts on public health and development initiatives in Malawi, which is among the world’s least-developed countries.

“I think the U.S.-Africa relationship is much bigger than the president’s comments, and it’s been going on for decades and decades,” he said. “Frankly, I suspect the vast majority of average Africans have not heard of any of those dust-ups. It’s very much an elite preoccupation.”

“Africans are, generally speaking, very gracious hosts” who will “roll out the red carpet and do their absolute best to be hospitable,” Meservey said.

Days before the first lady was to board a U.S. government airplane for the flight across the Atlantic, Trump declared at the United Nations that he and his wife “love Africa.”

Mrs. Trump’s five days on the continent will feature a mix of visits to hospitals, schools and shelters as she focuses on the well-being of children.

Child welfare is a top issue for Mrs. Trump, the mother of a 12-year-old son. She focuses on the issue in the United States through an initiative she launched this year named “Be Best.” This week’s trip will mark her first extended period promoting the program and its goals abroad, separate from an event she held during a stop in London with the president in July.

A former fashion model born in Slovenia and now a naturalized U.S. citizen, the 48-year-old Mrs. Trump has traveled extensively with the president, including to Saudi Arabia, Israel, Italy, Brussels, France, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom. She was in Finland for the president’s July summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin but did not go to Singapore for Trump’s June meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Her only other international foray was brief: a September 2017 day trip to Toronto to join Britain’s Prince Harry at a military athletic competition.

Often seen as a reluctant first lady — she did not fully move into the White House until nearly six months after Trump took office, due to her son’s schooling in New York — Mrs. Trump has kept a low profile in comparison to her immediate predecessors. She was sidelined for several weeks following kidney surgery in May.

Immediate predecessors Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush and Michelle Obama all made multiple trips abroad without their spouses during their administration’s two terms. Such travel has become expected of first ladies, and a similar excursion was viewed as a next step in Mrs. Trump’s evolution in one of the world’s most scrutinized roles.

Former first ladies Clinton, Bush and Obama also made repeat solo trips to Africa.

“The first lady, when she travels to a foreign country, can carry the flag and there’s a great deal she could do to engender good feeling about the United States and I hope she can do that,” Myra Gutin, who studies first ladies at Rider University in New Jersey, said of Mrs. Trump.

President Trump raised ire across Africa earlier this year after his private complaint about the continent’s “s—hole countries” was leaked to journalists.

He later offered a partial denial in public but privately defended his remarks, The Associated Press reported in January. He also didn’t deny the comment when he was asked about it while hosting Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari at the White House in April.

The president further roiled South Africa when he recently claimed on Twitter that the country is seizing farms and that high numbers of farmers are being killed. He pushed “send” on the tweet after watching a Fox News segment about land issues in South Africa. While killings of farmers have been taking place for more than 20 years and are widely seen as part of South Africa’s high crime rate, experts say white farmers have not been the target. Nor are there signs of widespread killings, they said.

Trump To ABC News’ Cecilia Vega: ‘I Know You’re Not Thinking, You Never Do’
Matt Shuham
“I know you’re not thinking, you never do,” President Donald Trump told ABC News’ Cecilia Vega, before refusing to field her question about the White House-imposed limits on the FBI background investigation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Trump later returned to Vega to answer her question about Kavanaugh.

Trump Scolds Second Female Reporter For Asking Kavanaugh Question

Nicole Lafond

President Donald Trump shut down a second female reporter for attempting to ask a question about Brett Kavanaugh in the Rose Garden on Monday, by scolding CNN’s Kaitlan Collins for asking about reports that the White House is limiting the scope of the FBI probe into Kavanaugh.

“Don’t do that, that’s not nice,” he said, as he wagged his finger at her.

Trump Gets Particularly Testy With Female Reporters During Presser

President Donald Trump was noticeably quick to cut off, interrupt or scold female reporters who asked him questions about his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh during a press conference Monday in the Rose Garden.

Before ABC’s Cecilia Vega had a chance to raise her question about Kavanaugh, Trump was immediately combative. After calling on Vega to ask a question, he joked that she was not expecting to get called on.

“She’s shocked that I picked her, she’s in a state of shock,” Trump said. Vega waited to be handed the microphone, and either said “I’m not — thank you, Mr. President” or “I’m not thinking, Mr. President” as she stood up and glanced at her notes. Trump clearly thought she said the latter.

“It’s okay, I know you’re not thinking, you never do,” he said.

“I’m sorry?” Vega said, before Trump prodded her to ask her question, which was about the White House limiting the scope of the FBI investigation into Kavanaugh. Trump then steamrolled her, asking, “what does that have to do with trade?”

He refused to take any questions about Kavanaugh until he spoke more about the new trade deal between the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Moments later, Trump scolded CNN’s Kaitlan Collins for attempting to ask a question about the limited scope of the probe. The two sparred briefly, before Collins’ line of questioning was cut off and she was forced to hand the microphone to another reporter who had questions about Trump’s new trade agreement.

“Don’t do that, that’s not nice,” he said.

Trump eventually took both Vega’s and Collins’ questions about Kavanaugh and the FBI probe into allegations of sexual assault against him, but interrupted Collins when he thought her turn was over.

“You’ve had enough,” he said.

While their questions weren’t about Kavanaugh, Trump was brusque with two other female reporters during the presser on Monday.

One woman asked him to clarify the comments he had made about Democrats not being “angels.”

“No, I think I’ll save it for a book like everybody else and I’ll write it, okay? I’m not giving it to you,” he said.

Trump also asked cut off another female reporter who asked him about the failure to follow through with a ban on bump stocks.

“No, you’re wrong about that,” he said.

RNC Confirms Charlotte As Its 2020 Host City

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Republican National Convention will be held in North Carolina’s largest city in August 2020 and party leaders say they’ll gather with an eye on nominating President Donald Trump for a second term.

Party chairwoman Ronna McDaniel announced at a news conference Monday that the convention will be held in Charlotte on Aug. 24-27.

Mayor Vi Lyles says she looks forward to showcasing the city, adding Charlotte has a chance to show it can host both major political parties. Charlotte hosted the Democratic National Convention in 2012.

A divided Charlotte City Council voted 6-5 in July to approve a bid to host the Republican convention. Charlotte had been considered a front-runner, although published reports showed several cities thought to be up for the convention didn’t actually submit bids.

Flake: It’s ‘No Good To Have An Investigation That Just Gives Us More Cover’

Without saying so explicitly, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) indicated Monday that the White House should allow the FBI to interview more than just the four people reportedly on its White House-approved list, in the bureau’s background investigation of sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

“We certainly want the FBI to do a real investigation and we are working to make sure that that happens,” Flake said in an on-stage interview at the Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit in Boston, responding to a question about multiple reports that people who have tried to speak with the FBI in the course of that background investigation have been turned away. Trump on Monday blamed Senate Republicans for the limitations his White House Counsel’s Office has placed on the probe.

Flake initiated the probe by calling for it ahead of his vote approving of Kavanaugh’s confirmation in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Without him and other Republicans who supported the week-long investigation, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) doesn’t have the votes needed to confirm Kavanaugh.

Flake continued on Monday: “I’ve had discussions, many yesterday, with my colleagues, with the White House Counsel’s Office, my staff is following up, as well. I had one of those conversations just five minutes ago, to make sure that any current, credible allegation that has been made is fully investigated.”

Flake said his office would be “having dialogue with the White House Council’s Office, making sure that it is up to standard.”

“It does no good to have an investigation that just gives us more cover, for example,” he continued. “We actually need to find out what we can find out. And we have to realize that we may not be able to find out everything that happened. This is something that was a while ago. Some witnesses or potential witnesses may not want to cooperate. But for those that can and those who we can compel to cooperate, we’ve got to do a fulsome investigation.”

Dems To WH: Add Blasey Ford, Swetnick To Interview List For Kavanaugh Probe

Matt Shuham

Most Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee wrote to White House counsel Don McGahn and FBI Director Christopher Wray on Monday to request that Christine Blasey Ford and Julie Swetnick be included in the FBI’s background probe of allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) did not sign onto the letter. TPM has reached out to his office for comment.

One woman to accuse Kavanaugh of misconduct, Deborah Ramirez, has confirmed speaking with the FBI and handing over a list of witnesses of the alleged misconduct. Blasey Ford and Swetnick, the two other accusers, have reportedly not been contacted by the bureau, and reports indicate that the White House has restricted the FBI from speaking to them.

Trump Passes Buck To Senate For Restrictions On Kavanaugh Probe

President Donald Trump passed the buck to the Senate on Monday on the reported limitations his White House has set on the FBI’s background investigation of allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

“I want them to do a very comprehensive investigation, whatever that means according to the senators, and the Republicans, and the Republican majority,” Trump told reporters Monday, during a press conference primarily focused on his administration’s proposed trade agreement with Canada and Mexico. But those Republicans have the same goal as Trump: confirming Kavanaugh.

The White House is the FBI’s “client” requesting the background investigation — albeit at the Senate Judiciary Committee’s request — and therefore the White House, not the Senate, has set the ground rules.

According to multiple reports, the White House has restricted the FBI from interviewing a third woman who’s accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct, in addition to prohibiting the bureau from interviewing former classmates of Kavanaugh’s who dispute his sworn statements about his drinking, among other things. Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has requested that the White House share a copy of the limits it set for the FBI.

Trump on Monday indicated he believed those reported restrictions were sensible, saying “we don’t want to go on a witch hunt;” that he understood Kavanaugh’s third accuser, Julie Swetnick, “has very little credibility;” and that it was “very unfair” to bring up Kavanaugh’s drinking.

“However, whatever the senators want is okay with me,” he said. Several Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans have mocked Democrats’ focus on Kavanaugh’s drinking.

Trump’s pinning the probe’s limitations on the Senate fails to address his own responsibility for removing those limitations, when necessary. At one point, he acknowledged that “it is up to me” to instruct the FBI regarding the boundaries of the probe, but added that “I’m instructing them as per what I feel the Senate wants.”

“My White House will do whatever the senators want,” Trump said, stipulating that he wanted “speed.”

And later: “I’m guided by the Senate. I want to make the Senate happy, because, ultimately, they’re making the judgement.”
