Baker Mayfield 'definitely' in conversation for Browns' No. 1 pick

Baker Mayfield "definitely" has been a part of the Cleveland Browns' considerations with the No. 1 draft pick, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter, and the former Oklahoma quarterback cannot be ruled out as a possibility for the top overall selection Thursday night.

The source said the Browns may have already decided whom they would select at No. 1. But before that final decision, whenever it was made, Mayfield was in that conversation.

The inclusion of Mayfield in the Browns' conversation adds murkiness to the top of the draft, where Cleveland owns picks Nos. 1 and 4.

Browns general manager John Dorsey didn't provide many hints on the team's draft strategy when he met with reporters on Thursday, saying that he expected at least four quarterbacks to be picked in the first round.

The Browns, coming off an 0-16 season, are expected to select a quarterback with one of their first two picks. ESPN's Mel Kiper projected Cleveland to select Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen at No. 1 in his most recent mock draft, with Mayfield going to the Miami Dolphins with the 11th overall pick.

USC's Sam Darnold also is widely viewed as a candidate for Cleveland with the first overall pick, and UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen has been projected ahead of Mayfield among draft-eligible quarterbacks.

Mayfield, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner from Oklahoma, recently visited with the Browns. Dorsey referred to Mayfield as a "pleasant fella" during his Thursday news conference.

"The only thing I care about is, do guys win?" Dorsey said. "Does he have accuracy? Does he have a strong arm? Can he throw the ball in the red zone in tight windows? Can he drive the ball? At the end of the game, does he win? That's what I look for."

because it’s the AFC east, not AFC northeast?

i don’t see the problem with miami being in the AFC East

however indy being in the AFC south and dallas being in the NFC east makes absolutely no fucking sense whatsoever
Miami is on the east coast on the southside of the map. its the south brah

c'mon pimp c

I’m not sold on Darnold at #1. As a prospect he is really just (a much less vocal) Jameis Winston.

Decent player but not good enough to carry a bad team. He’ll make some great throws and some others that have you wondering what the fuck he saw.

And I think his ceiling is Matt Stafford whereas Mayfield’s ceiling is Drew Brees.

...which justifies why they’re in the AFC east. they would fit in a southern division as well. but it’s not difficult to see why they’re in the afc east
LMAO

are you serious??

then why not put one of the more northeastern teams in the AFC East?

if the issue is travel and shit, why should they (NE) have to fly ALL the way to Miami just to play them when they can play a much closer opponent?

Again, they are on the east coast, but on the south side of the map just like Jax, TB, CAR, ATL, etc..

i didn’t make the divisions nigga
you want to put a northeast team in the afc east to replace the dolphins? cool

just not sure why some of y’all are so passionate about it. they only fly miami once a year. it’s not like they fucking walk there. shit sounds like a first world problem

i’d be more upset flying to buffalo

Ever since Baltimore got the ravens always said the NFC East should be the Redskins, Raven, Eagles & Giants.

As a Dolphins fan it really doesn't make sense for us to be in a division with 2 NY teams and 1 Massachusetts team. We should be in a southern division.

what?

because it makes no sense lol

again, tradition is the reason why they havent changed the alignments since going to the format that exists now

think about this...at one point, the saints and the 49ers were in the same division lol

I mean, the expansion forced them to change this, but look how long that took

Don’t wait to draft a QB if you think he’s a franchise changer.

Anything can happen in 2nd and 3rd slot.

100% correct. The only way the browns can potentially truly fuck themselves is by not taking the highest QB on their board w the 1st pick. You don't get to pick exactly what you want and jeopardize losing it. Barkley might be there at 4th anyways and if not Chubbs will be. Is really a win win situation. They got a chance to get the franchise QB they want AND Barkley or Chubbs. Is not that complicated. If u miss out on Barkley, take a RB in the 2nd rd, is a deep draft

How you a Dolphins fan yet you rep DC (sure you been asked this many a time).

I’d be fine with a division realignment. Nice to see a shake up after 50 odd years. Still would like to see a game against the Cowboys every year. Make it important like college football rivalries. I’m talkin trophies and shit.
