It's kinda ironic that Marvel is about to do a DC Crisis style reboot with its movie multiverse.

They never delved deep into his character besides the fact we know Thanos had his family killed. We're finally getting Rocket's backstory in the next GOTG film
Yeah outside of the Thanos thing he’s really just been there to make jokes. Outside of that he’s just gray and relatively strong (this doesn’t even get shown much at all anyways)
Saw a little bit of that in the Christmas special when he flipped over the cop cars but he's usually getting his ass beat lol

It's Kinda funny now, seeing how much he rode for Gunn couple years ago, and he barely has a backstory so far in 2 movies and a special.
