The official COVID-19/Coronavirus Discussion Thread...aka I hope I don't get the Rona

I think we responded pretty damn good to covid. The biggest fumble we had over all was doling out the vaccines. Not enough were made before the campaigns started and people had to much time lapse between doses furthing the spread and increases the likelihood of mutations beacuse of that lapse.

By "we" do you mean the US? Because the response here has been a laughing stock from the initial "it'll be gone in 2 weeks. This is just a hoax" to "everybody get vaccinated or die"

The world. Canada did the same thing. Idgaf what the news showed you, nobody took this shit seriously for most of 2019 believing it would be gone soon. For never having to deal with something like this before, the world(over all, sure some countries lagged a bit more) we did very well. Masks, sanitization, distancing, education....

next time it happens well be 100 times faster/cheap*/efficient/effective/easier stopping something in its tracks. We've known for decades a super bug was gonna come fuck with us, it's why 20 yrs ago the gov halted the massive anti-bacterial craze beacuse we discovered it'd be a whole ass generating with weak ass immune systems never exposed to anything cuz even their goddamn mattress was antibacterial and when that super bug hit, they'd be the most to suffer/die.

The wild shit is here in the US because of the shit Trump did I distinctly remember it being said before covid hit that if this country were to be hit with a pandemic of any kind the US was woefully unprepared to handle it. And damn if they weren't right.

What did or do they mean by, "woefully unprepared"? Unprepared to sanitize things? Social distance or wear masks?(I have read the US citizens were being defiant in those two areas but Canada did the same thing). Getting vaccines out? Idk they seemed to get a lot of their population on board there. I mean it's not like they waited until the middle or end of 2021* to start their campaign, they started the beginning of the year! So I'm failing to see how the US apparently failed so hard. Beacuse the cases went up? They went up everywhere around the world at the same time while all these other countries supposedly ran that covid/vaccine game, unlike the US🙄, allegedly. Or do they mean unprepared as in if thousands started dropping dead from covid they wouldn't be able to deal with that volume of death adequately? If the answer is yes, neither would any other country, not just the US.

Article is behind a paywall. There's the link I use to get around them. Shit works wonders. Interested to see more fully completed studies on longer term effects of covid in people because that's going to the future for many.

Rates went up because of the Delta variant and it's increased transmissibility coupled with vaccinated folks lax precautions and vaccine hesitancy and distrust.

It's not really that big of a mystery and the answers are out there. Unless you don't accept the explanations, but then that's another discussion.
everything in your first paragraph except delta.

so why was we (not you)going back and forth for so long?

What country was prepared? Even if Trump did everything right this shit would've fucked us. Chinese government had this shit circulating loong before they alarmed the world. It was too late regardless. And yes I agree trump did a terrible job bc all he ever did was divide and contradict health official messaging.

This why the origins need to be taken more seriously. That's what caused all this bullshit. And it happened while safe guards were implemented to avoid this very pandemic they kept warning us about.

Of course you can't literally be prepared for everything but there was literally a plan developed on what to at least attempt to do if a major influenza pandemic every occurred and hit the US and he essentially had dismantled any semblance of that plan and had all but either dismissed or flat out ignored any scientific advice on anything from the very beginning of his term.
