My wife got her first dose of the vaccine this morning. A few interesting things I want to point out. The coordination of getting these doses of this vaccine delivered throughout the country has been very thorough. They are really shipping that bitch throughout the states. A massive effort.
So the hospital she works at was notified I believe some time in November that they would be one of the select few hospitals in the country to receive the first doses. I think there was something like less than 1,000 hospitals that were going to receive the first batch.
So anyway once her hospital was notified they laid out a plan of action for the who, what, when, why, and how on the distribution. So the nurses, COVID personnel, employees in the assisted living facilities (nursing homes), and a few other departments were gonna get their first. Those departments got their shots last week.
So last Friday her department was notified that they will be eligible to get vaccinated within the next 2 weeks. So we were look cool, she'll get hers before the end of the year. So their job had an appointment portal just like they have for any other occasion like flue shots, TB shots, etc. All you have to do is go on the portal and pick an available date and time to get your shot.
So there's about 50 people in her department. Of those 50 people about 25 of them are black. About 15 of them are black women including my wife.
So she made her appointment on Tuesday to receive her shot today on Thursday. She went down there this morning to get her shot and she was the only black person there.
Not just the only black woman but the only black person. She said there was at least 70-100 employees there to get their shots this morning. She did not see a single other black person. The only other black people she saw was 2 of the nurses who were actually giving you the shot and they already got theirs.
So I asked her why didn't all of those people in your department make an appointment to get the shot? She said when she asked they all had different excuses and some of them were bat shit crazy.
One of the supervisors who's a black woman said that she heard that they are putting different stuff in the first round of shots so she's waiting for the next round. That's so incredibly dangerous to think that. It's not true but that's a very dangerous assumption that when it spreads will sow fear and doubt like it has.
Another girl said that her boyfriend told her not to get it so she's not getting it. I know a little bit about her boyfriend and all I'm gonna say about the nigga is he's a simple as 2+2 so I'm gonna leave it at that.
One guy said that he heard the vaccine is worst on men than women?????? Where the fuck are people getting this information from?
From the looks of it, there seems to be a whole lot of groupthink amongst a lot of the black employees. She asked one of the black nurses if any other black people have gotten it and she told her that including both of them and that other nurse she has only seen 4 other black people get the shot!!!!!!!!!!
Now I'm not saying people don't have valid reasons. I'm just saying that it's shocking and a little bit embarrassing that with something so serious like this vaccine that our community can allow this type of groupthink and misinformation take over like this.
Oh and today alone on Christmas Eve in our city we had another 700 positive cases and 12 deaths.
Anyways, I'll do my best to keep you niggas updates with what's really going on but shout out to my wife and all of the other healthcare workers who have been dealing with this virus since the beginning.
