So basically, cutting the military budget in half by $400 billion, grants you student loan forgiveness up to $10,000

The forgiveness would be scaled based on income like taxes. It wouldn't be everybody all at once, at the stroke of POTUS pen. It would be a scaled rollout over the course of a time period.

Also, How many years would it take to eliminate all student loan debt on a $400B budget?

You also have to factor in other things that Democrats have ran on like free community college and more affordable college in general. Things that will prevent more students from going into debt.

Eliminating student debt isn't a one and done.
Every year more students come into debt.

The other things being offered as freebies are:
1) not exactly free
2) are also recurring increases to national debt

1) Independents don't care about primaries. We care about who's on the final ballot, or we take our vote to a candidate with a better platform.

2) Independents are the catch-all of elections. 70% of the voting population already knows who they're voting for, no matter what. It's the debates, campaigns and everything else being worked for those last 30%.

3) Y'll keep saying we're insignificant, then cried after the 2016 election. It can't be both.

There needs to be open primaries across the board regardless of party affiliation. Would drag everyone towards the center and more shit most folks agree on would get done I think

Military spending and not appropriately taxing the 1% are two of the main reasons why the freebies aren't free.

Free college isn't more harmful to the national debt than military spending or the richest citizens paying the least in taxes.

The majority of Americans agree with Democratic policies. Democrat policies poll better than any other policies even outside of their party. Democrats also consistently get more votes than Republicans. Without Gerrymandering and Voter Suppression , Republicans would not hold as many political offices as the have right now.

The bottom line is that the majority of Americans overwhelmingly agree with Democrat policies and agendas than anything else. The need for a third party or a center is not as big as people think. It's certainly not big enough to impact Democrat or even Republican messaging.

Assuming that people would gravitate towards the center would go against all the data that shows that Democrats are overwhelmingly more popular than Republicans, Independents, and Undecideds.

And I'm not saying that you have to agree with Democrats. Just saying that the ,majority of the country already does...........

The states that tax wealth the highest are currently the most expensive to live in and increasing number of people moving out. Not just CEOs who want to operate somewhere with lower taxes, but middle class as well.

I can't imagine that implementing that on a national scale will improve things.

Man,

You're looking at this very sideways.

Are you suggesting that more strict taxes on the rich would make America too expensive to live in?

This is like people saying that they don't want to raise the minimum wage because then prices would go up when the minimum wage hasn't changed in years while prices have continuously gone up.

I'm not saying that's what you saying but that's what you saying.

No I don't think the rich should be untamed, they abuse their influence and power and wealth gap continues.

But I do look at what taxing the wealth in states that do it higher than others have caused. Why are they taxing wealth at higher rates than others yet more and more people find those states to unaffordable to continue living?

One would think a top down policy across the nation might exacerbate those conditions for even more people.

That's not how it would work. Billionaires getting taxed more in Illinois or Ohio doesn't make it harder for me or you to live there. It opens up more money that can be used................to make life better for us there.

We're still going to be getting taxed at our same rate. They will be getting taxed harder. Our money won't be funny but there's will start cracking up.

That really wasn't the point I was making though. Even if majority of folks agree with democratic policies alot of folks simply won't vote for the candidate if it isn't their party.

I'm thinking if the radicals on either side are weeded out during primaries you usually end up with someone more centrist and the pivot to the national stage isn't as drastic once the primaries are over.

I'm still all for rank choice voting either way

My point in bringing up states was that the ones that are doing it now on state level are the most unaffordable.

These people would be doing themselves a disservice.

Unless you worship politicians or treat them like celebrities, then it should be policy>person. This is of course if the person is redeemable and not a fucked up individual like Trump where his policy does not change the fact that he is deeply rooted in racism.

For other people though, agreeing with the policy but disregarding or withholding your vote because of the person is crazy. Especially since you're not going to hold out for the perfect candidate. The perfect candidtae will never exist. The system is not designed to support the perfect candidate.
