Reading Marx, I came across a passage where he writes that those who control the production of material things also control the production of ideas and ideological things. The ideas that people access are the ones that they are permited access to, by those who control their production and dissemination. Has me thinking a lot about what this means for the artists and songs given mainstream attention. I don't know how we can sit by as hip-hop fans and not be suspicious of the direction that money has pushed the music and culture.
