Should Black Entertainers Defer To Black Activists On Black Topics

Black entertainers, athletes, and celebrities need to understand that using their platform to speak out about shit is the bare minimum. They still need to be held accountable for what they say, their actions, and their inaction.

No. And if entertainers/athletes started doing that I think some of us would see it as trying to play it safe.

But I will say that there just needs to be a general consensus. We can all agree on minor details, but the overall statement that should be made be it entertainer or activist (which can also be one in the same) is that we are not tolerating anti black racism. We need as many voices shouting that point as possible

For a while, but they became more distance as Elijah Muhammad made up lies about X and cautioned Ali to stay away from him, and he listened.
I think what he getting at is Malcolm had no problem with Ali being an entertainer and 'leader'

We all know he lived in a black and white world until his pilgrimage. He was already speaking less on absolutism and more on conditonalism

As long as they can articulate their stance then why shouldn't they speak on issues they feel strongly about

It seems a majority can't articulate that stance and that is part of the problem. They give athletes a huge platform but they can't articulate the message. So IMO they should put somebody who can on that platform to get that message on the issues out.

Nobody is saying they shouldn't speak or trying to silence them. Just for the cause some times step to the side and let a person who is more equipped for that get that platform you have and let them speak on shit that needs to get out to a broader audience that they would never get on their own.

Classic example of entertainers not being held accountable for their bullshit is this clown ass nigga Killer Mike. This nigga is a fucking idiot who should've been shut up a long time ago. Now look at his dumbass.

No because no one person speaks for what black society wants, is feeling, etc. We are not monolithic is what America needs to realize as a whole

Media doesn't need to be lead to water, they know what answers they want and will get which is why they ask certain ppl certain things.

Our entertainers and athletes who aren't very invested or knowledgable about what we as a ppl go thru should say as much and keep it moving
But what is knowledgeable?

Could just be a difference of opinion.

Who is the message directed towards?

So Mike is an idiot because he had a meeting with Kemp? Explain that. Kemp is a piece of shit for sure, but he's the person in power. If Mike is able to parlay with Kemp and get financial assistance for black businesses, what exactly is the problem?

What stances of Mike's do you think are dumb? His belief that we should do our best to support black businesses? His belief that blacks need to better exercise our political power specifically for the benefit of the black community? His belief that we should be wiser about how we direct our people to be successful? His belief that black people should exercise their rights to bear arms? His belief that the criminal justice system is inherently flawed and that it needs to be rebuilt? Which one, because most of that is stuff that most knowledgeable black people agree with.

On topic, no Black entertainers should not be required to give their platform to activists. However, if Black Entertainers are going to speak on certain issues, they do need to educate themselves enough such that they actually have informed opinions and not just spout shit they saw on Twitter.

Ill say this.. you shouldnt have "conversations" with people who are trying to destroy you.

So if you're in the South and living under Republican governments, you should never try to engage with those governments because Republicans have generally been bad towards Blacks? How exactly do you help your community in that case? Sure, you can do everything you can to get the Republicans out of office (Mike put in work for that. He supported Abrams.), but are you saying that you shouldn't even try to advocate for your people while the government isn't staffed to your liking?

Didnt say that at all but.. that very public conversation and photo op is often weaponized.. generally is generous as fuck though who stops advocating ....that doesnt stop regardless who is in office its about not being utilized as a tool. Lets see if this bears fruit structurally.... and meaningfully otherwise its a game i mean he stole the damn election

I agree with that. A person is foolish if they are continuously making moves that are used against them. However, I wouldn't say Mike sitting down with Kemp one time to have a discussion about the needs of the community falls into that category. Now if nothing comes of the meeting and he's still begging Kemp for help, that's a different story.

Yea, what we need is more Revolt Conferences with people like TI who will just talk over you and diss you to pander to the crowd if he disagrees with w/e you are saying. And we also need more important young speakers on the panel like Russel Simmons underaged daughter (at he time),Akoi. Who was presented as an activist, who was lecturing about voting, even tho she never voted in her life because shes underage teen.

Now a days, pretty much every entertainer that tries to lead a charge in social justice reform is generally always barely in formed on the issue they supposedly really care about. They get all their info off IG & twitter headlines like the rest of people with low attention spans. And when they speak on the topic somewhere, like at the Revolt Conference, they mainly promote themselves. So at the end of these conferences, all we get is an online headline with no substance.
