Russia Declares War on Ukraine

I don’t just get how the whole US seemingly shrugged that shit off (private citizens getting they shit took)

It is because we already assume they have fewer rights over there?

Literally had this argument with my friends.

We all anti Russia and pro sanctions for this case.

But I told them i dont like the idea of taking peoples private property.

I agree with sanctioning imports and exports to their businesses in an effort to hurt Russa and Putin, but I cant agree with taking their cars and boats.

Shits a slipery slope. Once you justify taking a rich persons boat, you one step closer to taking a middle class Russians store and then house in America.

I dont like that shit.

You're missing the point that the oligarchs aren't wholly private citizens. Sure, our billionaires can give "campaign contributions" to get the ear of politicians and achieve some measure of political influence. The oligarchs actually take active roles in how Russia is governed. For instance, Putin starts this war, it's possible that, to some extent, some of those oligarchs are actually funding the war to some degree, which is why other nations are basically trying to freeze their finances.

What are we doing fam?

A whole ass sitting president made a speech thay the military industrial complex is running america and should be stopped.

That was like 60 years ago.

The military industrial complex is companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon etc.

We gonna sit here and say the owners of these companies dont have a role on how shit is governed?

Even though a sitting president said they do?

And thats just 1 industry.

In these 60 years, imo, the technology industry runs the US and influences policy more than the military industry even.

How else can some of these policies be explained?

Lmaooo. 9 years of the Syrian civil war, and I think the US still took in less than 30k refugees in total. Out of 9 million.

3 weeks of a war in Ukraine, and we commit to 100k out of 2M.

The risk of Syrian Refugees is that one might be an Islamic Fundamentalist and blow some shit up in the US.

The risk of Ukrainian refugees is that 1 might be a white nationalist and blow some shit up in the US.

Heres the kicker though. America has a much bigger percentage of cases of domestic white supremacy terrorism than Islamic terrorism in recent times.

Fucking Merica man

Thanks for addressing my actual question

So they are primarily funded by oligarchs as opposed to tax dollars?

I wouldn't say Russia is primarily funded by oligarchs. The oligarchs aren't paying for public services and things like that. It's stuff like assassinations, wars, and other less than reputable activities that Putin uses them for.

Bruh, I work in that industry. You can't tell me anything about it. Again, our politicians being corrupt and taking bribes is not the same as a government's actions being directly funded by the elites. Sure there may be some similarities in how things go down, but those dynamics are still fundamentally different. You could seriously hamper Russia's ability to make war by cutting off the oligarchs. That's why they are being sanctioned. Taking yachts from the CEOs of Lockheed, Boeing, and Raytheon would not have an immediate or direct impact on our ability to wage war because that's not how our government works. Those companies don't pay for our wars. They pay for the politicians that push wars.
