Thats a very short term way of looking at it.
Germany put the toughest sanctions on Russia by not certifying a natural gas pipeline that goes directly from Russia to Germany.
This is the same pipeline the Obama administration along with the rest of Nato begged Germany not to build. Meaning this decision was before Trump.
Germany went against the wishes of the rest of the West and still built the pipeline cause natural gas prices were going out of control.
All that is a long way to say, yea Germany put a hold on certifying the pipeline which is the single act that hurts Russia the most, but it also hurts Germany. So the question is, how long can Germany keep it up, and who breaks first?
All this is leading up to a 60-90 day conflict in which Russia walks away with half of Ukraine, and gives the other half back with the contigency that Europe will ease the sanctions.
