Official Wrestling News Thread

It’s really the end of an era. Cole going back to Smackdown for the first time at the announcer table since 2008 and Graves (thank god he’s gonna be only on one show) going with him. Vic is good too but I guess Lawler gonna help for a while and then leave or something. We’ll see. Next week is gonna be so interesting

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer gave some behind-the-scenes details on who put the new RAW Commentary trio together and it wasn’t Vince McMahon, according to the latest Observer Newsletter.

Meltzer is reporting that Paul Heyman selected both Vic Joseph and Dio Maddin to be the new voices of the RAW brand. Heyman wanted to give the show a new look and it appears that he appreciates the work the two have done on the 205 Live brand. While Maddin certainly is green behind the headphones, Heyman thinks he’ll be a success in the new role.

Numerous WWE sources have confirmed to PWInsider.com that former WWE Champion CM Punk was at FOX Studios earlier this week in Los Angeles meeting for a potential on-air role for WWE Backstage, the new FOX Sports 1 studio show that will debut on the cable network on 11/5.

We are told that Renee Young was also present and that Punk did some test on-camera material. We have not confirmed that Punk has signed on for the series.

FOX had been bringing in a number of personalities from inside and outside the WWE umbrella for the show. Punk was not the only unique personality who has been brought in to potentially appear on WWE Backstage. Former ECW World Champion and WWE announcer Taz (currently with CBS Sports Radio) was brought in several times in recent months by FOX for a potential role on the series.

Paige, Rey Mysterio and Sean Waltman have also been brought in by FOX Producers for a potential role..

WWE and FOX officially announced the series yesterday with Renee Young and Booker T announced as hosts. Young will be the lead personality on the show. FOX has played with different versions of the show and how it will be presented, ranging from 3 -5 personalities having a panel discussion but a final decision has not been made on the format.

WWE Backstage is being produced by FOX, not WWE, so should Punk land on the series, which will air weekly on Tuesday nights, he would not be technically working for World Wrestling Entertainment. Punk exited WWE in January 2014 but noted last month at Starrcast 3 that he wouldn't "not take a call" from World Wrestling Entertainment if they called to speak to him about a potential return in some form to the company.

According to Fightful, superstar Sasha Banks signed an extension with WWE upon her return to the company back in August. Reports at this time don’t indicate the exact figures of the deal, nor the added time from her previous contract when she re-signed in 2018.

The Boss has been feuding with Raw women’s champion Becky Lynch, and will challenge for the title at the upcoming Hell in a Cell pay per view. She is also scheduled to face tag champion Alexa Bliss on Monday’s season premiere of Raw.

Word is John Morrison didn’t sign a wwe.. he shot the rumor down..

Punk coming on for a talking role is good. He’ll eventually get that itch to make an in-ring return.
