Official Wrestling News Thread

Jimmy Jacobs has finished up with AEW, and there's been much discussion about his departure since Fightful Select broke the news.

Fightful Select was told that Jacobs was very well liked backstage in All Elite Wrestling and there appeared to be no ill will regarding his departure. Jacobs cited burnout and not wanting to travel as much as a reason for wanting to finish up. AEW took the opportunity to decide that the move would be a creative freshening for them, as Jacobs was a major part of the team for well over a year. We're told that outside of Tony Khan, Jacobs was at more AEW shows than anyone.

There have been several incorrectly aggregated reports of a Twitter Space that Ibou from Wrestlepurists hosted shortly after. Some details that were discussed online that we can add some details to:

  • Jacobs did come into AEW not familiar with the on screen product, but was always open to learn and took recommendations on catching up.
  • Jacobs did work directly with Chris Jericho in developing the Learning Tree. However, we're told that the original execution was not Jacobs' idea.
  • Jimmy Jacobs knew who Okada was. That news emerging was bad aggregation.
AEW has been aware that they've needed to make creative adjustments and are at least planning that internally.

Most in AEW expect Jacobs to take some time off in general.

They should give more share to Will Washington. He killed it with the Swerve / Hangman, Willow / Statlander stories. Pepperman has been a massive positive in the women's creative too.

Jacobs was way too WWE-minded.

speaking of which who is behind the fuckin Maximum Male Models?!? They are doing the same exact shit they were doing in WWE. Aint nothing different lol I'm always surprised to see them get tv time in AEW
They went to the indies and didn't change up. They just ran with the same gimmick for some reason so I guess AEW brought them in as that. Vince got them in a spell.

Meltzer getting played ??

Rock just off his IG posts isn’t acting like he’s not gonna be somewhat involved. Then again he could be involved in outside the ring stuff an not be in the actual event. Who knows shit changes all the time.

Bryan Danielson’s full-time run has reached its end, and we’ve learned more about the last few months of his career.

Danielson lost to Jon Moxley at AEW WrestleDream and his full-time career is effectively over. It was indicated to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful that Danielson specifically wanted to lose to Moxley to end that run.

As highlighted on Fightful Select, AEW doctors legitimately didn’t allow Bryan Danielson to be involved with Blood and Guts, though it was something the company was hoping could happen throughout the year. However, Danielson was cleared to compete in regular matches along his road to full-time retirement. Although many people wondered if his interviews were in character regarding his health status, we’re told that those were all true, and by the time the Moxley match was unfolding, Danielson even had thought he probably shouldn’t have done a couple of those matches leading up to the WrestleDream PPV.

Danielson has legitimately been without a talent contract for a number of months, and we’re told that he does not have any additional contracts. He is effectively a free agent without additional obligations. He’s told many in interviews and backstage that he doesn’t envision going back to WWE at this time. The hope within AEW is that he’ll wrestle periodically for them and resume additional duties whenever he’s ready. Danielson told Fightful that he has to get his neck fixed first, which likely means surgery.

Danielson’s match at AEW All In had been planned since earlier this year, complete with Danielson winning the title. We’re told that Chris Hero produced the All In main event, and Swerve Strickland was adamant he wanted to tap out to lose to Danielson as opposed to “passing out” or anything else. Since virtually the start of Swerve’s reign it was known that Danielson would likely be the one to end it.

We wish Bryan Danielson well in his full-time retirement.
