Official Wrestling News Thread

Last night was Eric Bischoff's first Smackdown taping since being named Executive Director of the brand. We are told Bischoff sat in on production meetings and was seen spending lots of time with members of WWE's Creative team but beyond that, there was no real obvious change to the usual TV taping process. We have been told that all sides are taking their time to transition Bischoff in so that he can familiarize himself with the company and how it operates. Bischoff officially started with WWE on 7/19. While he's worked as a performer there in the past, this is the first time he's worked for the company on an executive level.

There was a lot of talk at WWE TV this week that the company is finally close to launching their tiered-version of the WWE Network and it will be much coming sooner than later. The company has been working on developing the new version for some time and moved the Network's infrastructure from BamTech to Endeavor Streaming Group this past January.

WWE announced the following to WWE Network subscribers:

We are pleased to inform you that WWE Network is being updated this week with a new design, a simpler navigation and smarter search tools. In addition, please be aware of the following:

1) You will need to log in with your email address and password the first time you use the updated WWE Network on each streaming device.
2) You will NOT need to set up a new account. You should use your existing WWE Network email address and password.
3) The update will occur on different devices at different times during the week.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com noted the following:

"There was a lot of talk at WWE TV this week that the company is finally close to launching their tiered-version of the WWE Network and it will be much coming sooner than later. The company has been working on developing the new version for some time and moved the Network's infrastructure from BamTech to Endeavor Streaming Group this past January."

Depends on what the upper tier offers. If they can get evolve or ROH on there, I would probably upgrade

Network is awesome, me and my girl can literally get lost in content but yeah like Ro said they need to do a deal with IMPACT and/or ROH.

As part of the rollout of the new WWE Network infrastructure today, WWE revealed that they will soon roll out the long-planned tiered-version of the WWE Network.

The plan is to debut the first tier, a free version that will feature programming that is free for all to stream in several months.

Several months after that, the Network will debut a "VIP" tier that will feature, as WWE disclosed, "additional programming similar to the EVOLVE 10th anniversary celebration that WWE Network streamed earlier this month."

Pricing for the VIP tier was not revealed but today's disclosure means independent wrestling, which WWE has long toyed with adding to the Network in some form, likely affiliated promotions such as PROGRESS, ICW and EVOLVE. Where the company goes from there remains to be seen, but EVOLVE sister promotions such as SHINE and FIP have to be considered.

It's entirely possible this is the first step towards WWE moving towards using their streaming Network as a destination for other pro wrestling content, similar to how UFC Fightpass distributes MMA events from other, smaller companies.
How this rolls out remains to be seen and while the term will likely not be used in marketing, independent wrestling is coming to the WWE Network in the months ahead.

Yes. An updated story

WWE superstar Jimmy Uso was arrested for driving under the influence near Pensacola, Florida early Thursday morning ... TMZ Sportshas learned.

Details surrounding the arrest are unclear but here's what we know so far -- the 33-year-old was booked at 3:04 AM and the charge on the police website says DUI -- driving with an unlawful blood alcohol level.

Unclear what cops say Uso's BAC was at the time of the arrest -- we're working on it.

Cops say Uso -- real name Jonathan Fatu -- is still behind bars. His bond was set at $1,000.

WWE has been in Florida this week -- 'Raw' was in Tampa on Monday, 'Smackdown' was in Miami on Tuesday.

Uso has a history with the law ... back in February, Jimmy was arrested after allegedly getting into a drunken dispute with cops in Detroit. They claim Jimmy "squared up" as if he was going to fight the police. He was arrested for disorderly conduct and obstruction.

Update: A law enforcement officer speaking to TMZ Sports says Uso was stopped for speeding and driving erratically, including “swerving left and right.”

When Uso was approached he reportedly reeked of alcohol and Uso refused to participate in a DUI test attempt by the officer. After his refusal, Uso was arrested, and he was also given a speeding citation on top of the DUI charge. According to official records, Uso was released on bond at 10:15 a.m. this morning.

I hate to say it but they need to remove The Usos from TV.

Quit BS WWE and suspend Jimmy for 30-45 days and force him to attend an AA program. Also, dock his pay for RAW, PPV, and any houseshows missed due to suspension. If he refuses rehab fire him on the spot.

Vince play too much with some of these guys. They won't be satisfied until he gets out there again and possibly kill himself or somebody. Then WWE is going to have another bad press situation like they did with Benoit.
