It's because he is quiet. The average fan (most white folks) doesn't know much about him and likes it when an athlete keeps their mouth shut and just plays. The media didn't have much info on him also and painted the picture of him being aloof. The guy and his circle has proven to be very shrewd and way more aware than they thought.

He pretty much let people play themselves because they assumed stuff without checking the facts
