A House of Dynamite

It has good performances, but this movie was very basic to me but they did infuse a very bleak vibe that i liked. It reminded me of so many push the button ,should we push the button TV movies

Dangerous Feelings

One of the worst movies i've ever seen, horrible script, acting and filming. No effort was made in trying to make this the least bit believable. I got some unintentional laughs out of this but that's about it.

Why you watch this man? 😂

PRAISE: I have nothing but respect for Chris Stuckman. I have watched his YouTube movie reviews for years and we have similar experiences when it comes to organized religion. Also the fact that he was able to make this movie about a woman's search for her long-lost sister becoming an obsession. Stuckmans movie excels when he leans into actual film making. Several times he uses the right places to tell his story that are dark and ominous, and that people would think twice about entering or going to. The standout performances come from
Camille Sullivan as Mia. I was on board with her trying to find answers about her sister. Sometimes all logic and reason goes out the window when something happens to a loved one and I was fine with her actions. Stuckman uses the right amounts of gore and haunting imagery especially as the movie nears its climax.

PROBLEMS: Stuckman goes to the found footage and well worn paranormal activity wells far to many times. It felt like tons of movies I've seen before. But those scenes also felt like those fake ghost hunter reality shows from the History Channel. There should have been more conflict between a couple of characters especially if a character truly cares for or loves someone and they think are inching closer and closer to the deep end. There are to many moments when the film stalls and I was waiting for something to happen and scenes became repetitive. There was a very unintentionally funny moment when something was presented and i said who in the world made that and who is it for ?!? HA HA

PRAISE: It's the ultra sobering facts and realities of the times we are living in that run through to almost the ending of this movie that kept me engaged. The story is about Two conspiracy-obsessed men kidnap the CEO of a major company when they become convinced that she's an alien who wants to destroy Earth. The actors turn in amazing performances. Emma Stone as Michelle Fuller she's that corporate boss who tells you to enjoy casual Friday but then says....but don't wear sneakers.....maybe you should still wear a tie....ahh just wear a suit. Stone is Director Yorgos Lanthimos muse and she's up for anything he's involved in and its on full display in this movie. An immersion into a role and then some. Jesse Plemons as Teddy is the type of person that dwelled on to many Tik Tok and YouTube conspiracy videos so much so it has warped his reality but it's also tied to personal pain and who he thinks is the author of his pain. Aidan Delbis as Don is the character i felt the most compassion for because he's being manipulated in a lot of different ways and out of loyalty he's going along for the ride even though he can tell something is very off. I loved the way Lanthimos shot a scene which was filled with lies and reality. There's this nice touch of characters altering the paths of how things are going to play out. I did like the little sing along music that accompanied scenes that included dread. There are moments of brutal, dark humor that I liked.

PROBLEMS: A character should have used more logic and reason and seen something coming. There's the basic tropes of getting to know your kidnappers and trying to manipulate them. I'm still lukewarm on the ending. Sure the visuals were cool reminding me of a 1970s movie but was it really necessary because I was fine with how all the manipulation and lies had played out.

Frankenstein

PRAISE: The story of Frankenstein has evolved a lot over the years. Sometimes in film, animation and comic books. Some film interpretations of Mary Shelleys novel i feel have been overdone, but not this film. I knew i was in for an entertaining and haunting time when I couldn't stop smiling during the first five minutes of the film. The cast does an excellent and then some job in their portrayals Oscar Isaac as Dr. Victor Frankenstein,Jacob Elordi as The Creature,Mia Goth as Elizabeth Lavenza / Caroline Beaufort,Christoph Waltz as Harlander,Felix Kammerer as William Frankenstein and David Bradley as Blind Man. Victor even with success there are frustrations coupled with impatience. Elisabeth, her fascination, compassion and bravery was beautifully brought out. The Creature what Elordi does with his movements, then like a child discovering things for the first time and realizing what life and death are. I liked how Victor and Elisabeths relationship evolved in the movie. Even with the smallest of objects Director Guillermo Del Toro took his time to make it all look interesting and haunting. The design of towering castles, bodies and his animating of the inanimate was incredible. I liked how he filmed certain scenes so characters could stand out in a crowd. There is this feeling of compassion for The Creature that flows throughout the movie and its coupled with well he didn't ask to be "born'. There were times when I said oh i know what part is coming next but Del Toro makes a good portion of the legendary story his own that it all felt new again. There is plenty of gore and blood and sound effects that are definitely not for the faint of heart. There are a number of great action sequences but one was so well done I actually felt dizzy. Some scenes were filmed so well they actually looked like paintings. I was actually going to pause the film at the halfway mark but got so caught up in had to finish it.

PROBLEMS: There was one kind of hokey moment that I wish had a better flow to it it felt like a jarring pause to the action and momentum of the movie. I started to feel the length of the movie when it entered it's last thirty minutes.

Definitely one of the best movies of 2025

Just found out a few minutes ago that this Hong Kong classic is now on Tubi. Both English dub and Chinese with English subs.

Watching it now.

Predator: Badlands

PRAISE: In this movie Director Dan Trachtenberg includes the thread of a character trying to prove themselves as he did with Prey and the animated anthology Predator: Killer of Killers. This time the story is about an alien hunter and an unlikely ally embarking on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary. Elle Fanning as Thia , Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as Dek are terrific in this sci fi action romp. Dek not only has a relentlessly difficult quest set before him and spurned on by raw emotion tied to a father son relationship that would even make Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker shake their heads at. I was very curious about Thia and who decided to give her programming with such a witty and caring personality. I liked that everything on the planet Genna was alive and also out to kill. So many great watch your step and keep your eyes and ears open moments. The fact that the movie not only further explores the Predators but also the androids of Weyland-Yutani,and WY once again proves how cold of a company they are and its definitely their way or the highway. The action sequences are great and also the creation of so many alien species definitely made me think of Alien: Earth. I believe the last time I watched a Predator team up with someone....even though reluctantly in this movie was in 2004's Aliens vs Predator but the team up here is written and played far better. There was something i was hoping for in the climax of the movie and i was very happy it came to fruition

PROBLEMS: I did laugh at how much of a PG-13 movie this was, actually leaning into a PG movie tone with bite. I wonder how much the studio was involved with the writing for specific characters to ensure a PG-13 rating. Some of the CGI looked a bit off at times. A couple of to convenient moments and predictable ones.

Die My Love

I think this movie really captures what happens when depression sinks in for various reasons and the denial of loved ones when it is obvious and then some that their loved one is suffering mentally. The entire cast does a great job including ,Jennifer Lawrence as Grace, Robert Pattinson as Jackson,LaKeith Stanfield as Karl,Nick Nolte as Harry,Sissy Spacek as Pam. I enjoyed the arguments, tension and conversations between Grace and Jackson. Iundrstand what the writer was trying to show the viewer but its a bit drawn out and I truly wish the pacing had been better.

A Woman Scorned

Starts off with the basics. Two people go to one of the most remote places on Earth to relax. Its not long before the local gang or drug dealers begin stalking them. A line is dropped to try to make it believable that Jas (Megan Purvis ) can take them out. After the first twenty minutes I said hey this movie is moving to fast what are they going to do in the remaining hour? Fortunately i was answered with plenty of fodder for Jas. It was entertaining when a sadist shows up to take on Jas.There's some good salty dialogue and vicious kills and I did laugh at how arrogant the bad guys were. Several fights were kind of weak because i could tell when punches were being pulled and it looked like some of the bad guys were just waiting to get brutally taken out by Jas. Still i was entertained by this eighty four minute action romp for the most part.

Afterburn

David Bautista stars in another post apocalyptic movie and this time he portrays a treasure hunter named Jake who after some extremely weak coercion he's dropped off in some Escape from New York like portion of the world to retrieve the Mona Lisa for Samuel Jackson's character King August. Its always nice to see the lovely Olga Kurylenko. The action sequences were pretty good. I was shocked by how much gore there was in the movie. People literally get obliterated by bullets and bombs. Bautista carries himself well as he churns out one liners and quickly takes people out. Oh and as General Volkov, Kristofer Hivju from Game of Thrones was pretty funny. But there are far to many weak moments in the script to ignore making this just a hey I needed to kill some time ,shrug your shoulders experience. Oh and its extremely predictable and the movie leans in to the predictable several times.

The Running Man (2025)

PRAISE: I will always have a fondness for the 1987 film of the same name starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. I stop and watch it anytime I'm scrolling through the channels. But in this version Director Edgar Wright and co Writer Michael Bacall decide to embrace the book version written by Stephen King. Glen Powell as Ben Richards displays enough charm and anger to make it believable that he would sign up for any of the risk your life game shows set in a dystopian future, oh and the fact that his family really needs the money. I did like some of the characters and they had enjoy them while you can moments. I did laugh at the running gag reality show moments, and who it makes fun of and who portrayed the reality stars. The movie has some very good action sequences when it really felt like I was watching The Running Man. I didn't mind that a good amount of social commentary that was woven into the story. One of the kills was very entertaining to watch. A couple of the cameos in the movie were fun.

PROBLEMS: I bet Josh Brolin filmed ninety percent of his scenes at home.A couple of situations didn't add up for me. There are several non sensical moments. I wondered if the a couple of contestants in the "game" actually forget what they were supposed to be doing. Its as if they never heard of stealth or incognito. I could understand this if a couple of characters had more development and arrogance, and ignorance were part of their mindsets but it didn't make any sense at all including the taunting....Ugh !! For all of the embracing of the novel the movie still couldn't stick the landing and I wonder if a thumbs down at test screenings was the cause of it.

Now You See Me: Now You Don’t

PRAISE: I remember having a good time with the first NYSM movie. The second one the only thing I remember about it was that it had some ultra annoying characters in it. But this third film at least the original cast is back together again with the additions of Justice Smith as Charlie, the beautiful Ariana Greenblatt as June, and Dominic Sessaas Bosco Leroy . After showing off their magical talents they go after glamorous international crime syndicate boss Veronika Vanderberg (Rosamund Pike). Pike is great in this i enjoyed every scene she was in,actually reminding me of a James Bond villainess at times. I had fun at times watching the trickery and multiple characters annoy and bond with each other throughout. There's even this extended im going to show you up and show off scene. Even with all of the CGI used i found myself smiling at times.

PROBLEMS: I never understood some organization or person wanting someone to do something noble for the world but they want the person or group to figure out exactly what they want them to do....just tell them !! The acting is bad at times and couple that with some bad dubbing and its cringe time. There are some predictable moments. I laughed during the final scene because the actor showing up for a scene he or she likely filmed at home has been happening a lot lately.

Sisu: Road to Revenge

PRAISE: When you have a character who is nearly invincible the writer and Director have to come up with inventive ways to keep the audience interested. Jorma Tommila as Aatami
has a goal in mind and is just minding his own business as usual but a Soviet Red Army commander portrayed by Stephen Lang (sadistic and then some played to a T )is commissioned to finish Aatami off....for good !!The aforementioned inventive ways are cranked up to a thousand with the use of all kinds of weaponry from fighter planes to tanks. Aatami has to be resourceful and then some,he also has to endure all types of pain and torture and I thought and incredible and involving job was done displaying such feats. I definitely thought of movies like the Road Warrior and I also recalled something that happened in an old X-Men comic book that put a smile on my face. That's what a lot of this movie is a comic book with all the trimmings of a relentless hero and villain. There is plenty of gore and enough pain on display that made me wince.

PROBLEMS: Stephen Lang's Russian accent switches off and on throughout the movie
The movie stalls a bit in the middle There are a couple of predictable moments.

Anniversary

PRAISE: It's the glances ,side eyed looks, and the instant chafing at the arrival of a character that pulled me into the first act of this movie. The movie is about a family torn apart by an authoritarian movement within the United States of America. The movie goes so much deeper than the usual mom doesn't like the new girlfriend and they are going to butt heads cliche. The film is full of incredible performances from Cast Diane Lane as Ellen, Kyle Chandler as Paul,Madeline Brewer as Anna ,Zoey Deutch as Cynthia,Mckenna Grace as Birdie , Phoebe Dynevor as Liz and Dylan O'Brien as Josh. The splinter group in this movie, the molehill that becomes a mountain, thats filled with we are the true Americans ,we are going to set America upright, you are finally going to be free and if we make millions of dollars off of that rhetoric hey that's just a little bonus is a haunting one. I loved watching the characters simmer and was in high anticipation of the boiling point and does it ever, right over the rim of the pot and into the stove. There's the coldness that wraps itself around several scenes that were very involving. I found myself hanging on Josh's words and O'Brien nearly steals the movie because i watched the full transformation of a man, into a completely other person, much like Michael Corleone in The Godfather. A huge mirror is definitely held up to the times we are living in.

PROBLEMS: So much was thrown at me in the climax that it felt over the top. There were some paths I found to be predictable.
