lol acting like Joe wasn’t a rapper himself .....Joe as a rapper cant do and didn’t do what Lupe as done so his opinion is moot

I've eaten and digested DW several times. Is it still too early to call it a...… I can wait.

Who's calling it one? Lol

It's a great album for sure, but it's only been out a week
I say that because for whatever reason rap has to have a "period" before it can be given a rank. I've listened to this album at least 8 times front to back while skipping skits and Drogas. My opinion isn't going to change a month or a year from now. If anything, I will have an even higher opinion of this album than now while finding more gems hidden within his music.

So I don't get the whole "got to wait" mentality when it comes to rap. Any other form of media or art doesn't have this limitation.

I see your position

This my thoughts, there are nothing wrong with personal classics and if you feel this is it for you, who am I to disagree

I think for it to be a general consensus classic, a certain time does have to pass before you can declare it one

Like I love love love no limit records and an overwhelming majority of their catalog are personal classics to me and I'm ok with that. I don't think there is an album, if I'm being unbiased would be considered a general consensus one though

I just realized I ve been listening to King Nas and King Nas only since Sunday.....lol bout o run through the album again

This shit gets better w/ each listen. Albums like this and TAY just show what dude is really capable of when he gets in his lyrical/artistic bag.
Chalk up another W for Lu.
that stretch between Manilla and Down could be a short movie.

I listened to it on the ride into work and man, the imagery is crazy

I have a greater appreciation for "gold vs the right thing to do" now. Listening to it with Lupe with the accent, then change it takes on a whole entire different meaning to me now

Why are physicals $25 though

1st and 15th productions mane

that ink and plastic cost money too lol

Been listening to this since it dropped. I feel a few different ways about it. I'm gonna break my thoughts down over a few posts so its not just one huge post.

First of all the concept is brilliant. The story about the slave trade, and a boat going down, slaves surviving under water and helping other slaves and making other boats going down is the story on the surface. Not gonna talk much about this cause its been said enough time.

There is a story underneath that which is Lupes personal story of him being a "slave" to the label and how he drowned but survived and ressurected. Basically being in a dark place where he had no way out but finding a way out and coming out better on the other end.

And then underneath that there is a blanket story of finding a second chance within yourself that everyone can relate too. Just hitting rock bottom, literally the bottom of the ocean, but instead of giving up you find a way to survive, by making friends with creatures under water, then fighting the forces that had you at rock bottom, causing those ships to sink, and then finally finding your way out and coming out successful. Its an inspirational story saying that we can all make it out if we never give up.

Im sure there are other themes and stories in there but these were the ones I got. I havent read a single review or break down so im sure other people interprated some of the themes differently but this is what I got out of it so far.

Shit was brilliant and dope.

thank you bruh.....idk if I just bounce around too much or be too high....but I've listened to this shit so many times and just could not seem to put the pieces together as a whole picture....swear to god every time I got to the end i was like "wait, thats it?.....I know I missed sumn"

I think the length of the album allowed too much time for my mind to wander...on top of not being able to listen to the full thing in one sitting (its possible I just dont have that kinda time)

I need to go back to the last few projects and try to peep from a little further back....I be way into each song on its own and trying to break down lyrics smh

"niggas cant see the wall for all the masterpieces"
