This is referring to the review Pitchfork gave him where they said the album contradicts some of the things he said on The Cool, TY and Drogas Light. The reviewer said they liked Drogas Light better and felt that album was misunderstood. They actually rated Drogas Light pretty highly. The review was pretty good tho.
A critic is a critic that's their job LOLOL. Let them critique the album. I'm sure there are other outlets that'll say different.
Lupe's being a bitch ass nigga like he normally does. You can't say this album is only for my nerd brigade core fans and then get mad when someone not apart of your stans gives an honest review of the album you just said you didn't make for. This album is far from album of the year.
@Goldie
Logic or Lupe?.... since you said that they only make music for their own fans and not for the entire hip hop community
Overall or just their recent projects? I haven't heard the new Logic. If we're talking overall, Lupe is better than Logic by miles.
I actually like Lupe when he's making music for niggas. Not when he's rapping about being besties with fishes and trying to be Lupe Fredrico on salsa beats.
Whether you make music for your fans or not you can't honestly sit there and get mad someone has a different opinion than you about your music. That's the highest order of dumbass.
Some people are gonna like it some arent. You can't control that. That's like posting on ABW and telling Goldie you don't want anyone to quote or nosign you with a different opinion SMMFH. XXL, HipHopDX, Pitchfork are not gonna kiss his ass and give him a classic rating. Let the people decide for themselves.
He has the potential to become a better rapper and producer. He has the potential to become a top selling artist because of how long he's been grooming and building his fanbase. He has more potential because he's very open minded and his subject matter can reach more people. Logic can give you club songs but he can also talk about racism, depression and getting through obstacles. He's also been cultivating his craft as a lyricist since day 1. Logic also has age on his side to become better.
Logic hasn't even hit his prime yet lyrically and you can see how dope he is. Kendrick will become a better rapper lyrically as time goes on too. Same with J. Cole. Logic is already one of the best lyricists in the game but he's underrated so niggas overlook him.
If I were a label, from a business and talent perspective Logic is the better investment long term. Lupe is a great artist and an amazing lyricist but isn't reliable from a business perspective. Lyrically he'll get better too but if I had to choose one to sign from a label perspective I'd take Logic. Lupe went indie and purposely put out a wack album he didn't need to. Imagine the money they lost on that.
And lol at King being the album that got Tip into the next tier like Urban legend never came out
Who credits C3 as the album that put Wayne in that next tier as you call it lol. Any fan of Wayne knows that C2 was that album
You telling on yourself
That was 2005 his recent actions are more telling. He dropped a bad album on purpose he said on an independent label. That prolly crushed their marketing and this is a label that put their faith in him.
Kanye didn't drop the ball on Lupe I'm sure he came to Lupe about a deal. Lupe dropped the ball on Lupe. It wasn't Kanye's responsibility to make a career for Lupe that was Lupe's job as an artist. Kanye gave him a platform and he did well with it in his first 2 albums. He chose to sign to Atlantic. And I'll admit Atlantic hurt Lupe at a point where the game was transitioning to where lyrics were becoming acceptable. An arena that Kendrick and J.Cole now command. But overall, Lupe is responsible for his career no one else. It's not too late, he just has to get outside himself and make better decisions both for his music and his business. A lot of teams aren't gonna put their resources behind someone who's gonna drop a bad album to spite their face. He didn't have to do that with DROGAS Lite. How come other labels didn't express interest in Lupe when he was leaving Atlantic ? There has to be more to the story. Past a certain point when do we hold you accountable for your actions and not the label ?
