Qued this song up and was expecting greatness, but found myself in disgust. That song is ass juice and trash. Delete, delete, delete. I haven't heard one great song off T&A yet. Abstract Lupe is trash Lupe.
 
Haven't fully digested it but this nigga rapped or sang in Spanish and Caribbean patois on the album? Impressive...


And that song on the hook where him and Ms. Jean name check all the sea creatures was dope AF



The background sounds of water flowing and lashing about goes well with the album concept


Probably the first hiphop album covering the Trans Atlantic slave trade from Africa to the Americas...

It still has elements of being abstract though. It’s just not as heavy as his current works. Don’t get me wrong, that song and Hurt Me Soul are my 2 favorite Lupe songs of all time. I understand the gripe you and @Goldie have with the new, “convoluted” style.

For me, it’s interesting and entertaining to try to decipher his bars though.

They brought up Lupe and Drogas Wave....

Mal, Rory, and Parks all said it was dope. Joe aint hear it but said he was gonna check it out. And in so many words said he dont want NO SMOKE with Lupe the Gawd.

I bet @Goldie is furious....

Been listening to this since it dropped. I feel a few different ways about it. I'm gonna break my thoughts down over a few posts so its not just one huge post.

First of all the concept is brilliant. The story about the slave trade, and a boat going down, slaves surviving under water and helping other slaves and making other boats going down is the story on the surface. Not gonna talk much about this cause its been said enough time.

There is a story underneath that which is Lupes personal story of him being a "slave" to the label and how he drowned but survived and ressurected. Basically being in a dark place where he had no way out but finding a way out and coming out better on the other end.

And then underneath that there is a blanket story of finding a second chance within yourself that everyone can relate too. Just hitting rock bottom, literally the bottom of the ocean, but instead of giving up you find a way to survive, by making friends with creatures under water, then fighting the forces that had you at rock bottom, causing those ships to sink, and then finally finding your way out and coming out successful. Its an inspirational story saying that we can all make it out if we never give up.

Im sure there are other themes and stories in there but these were the ones I got. I havent read a single review or break down so im sure other people interprated some of the themes differently but this is what I got out of it so far.

Shit was brilliant and dope.
