Is Reading Overrated?

we got a whole book club thread on here smh

Why do u think it's more popular? Cuz it's better lol Simple logic.

This shit's like debating what's better, freaky text from a chick vs her doing what's in the text.

Pretentious niggas - "no matter how freaky she is, she'll never trump my imagination"

fuckin geeks

How is that even the same? Getting head is always better than reading about it. But as far as entertainment goes nothing is worse thrn when the show does wack shit that wasnt in the book.

Reading is underrated. I once heard in a rap that people don’t know how to converse unless it about Politics, Religion or Sex. Reading opens the mind and widens your palette of conversation. Everyone needs the ability to gain esoteric knowledge and spread something to others who don’t know.... reading is necessary

...y’all wanna know what I read about the water we use on a day to day basis?

Feces in it?

It's more popular because it's easier to digest. Watching is passive reading is active. That's all.

The last part is actually a thing. Word to all the sexually dysfunctional niggas who's standards of sex are unattainable because of porn. There imagination was greater then the act.

Agree with this too. Alot of folks thought porn was real life and be disappointed

na ita a bit more vile imo and people wonder why they be tummy sick and other ailments

Man i dont trust shit no more. I think everything is a set up. Cloned animals cloned animal sperm(really heard this from a nigga working at Smithfield packing) just ugh

just maybe...some people just forgot about the thread?

that could be a possibility

It is not over rated or under rated. Just a classic art form. Some people can learn or focus with audio and/or visual stimulation and some can do it with just text. Nothing wrong with either. With a book, it forces you to use imagination and that depends on how well the author describes a scene. I like books, though tend to read Stephen king mainly. When people say the book is better then the movie, that stems from original stories being changed drastically. Some people may be pretentious but others really have a problem with how much a story is changed. I will include comics in this as well. The dark tower series was a 7 book series and the movie took some characters and places from the book and pretty much made their own story up, which had little to do with the book.

Aight before yall kill me

I'm not saying knowing HOW to read is overrated, I'm talking about doing it as a hobby.

I know women who are impressed when a guy says he likes to read or when somebody says they just read a novel it comes off as if they're somewhat smart.

But in 2019 is reading really that necessary? Is someone who watches documentaries , interviews, etc to research a subject any less smart or informed than someone else who read the book that the doc summed up in 20 mins?
No reading is not overrated. You simply retain more knowledge, learn more, challenge your mind, think more and literally stimulate a different part of your brain that watching a documentary, listening to music, or watching a speaker does not accomplish. Simply put: would you prefer a lawyer who knows the law because they read it or watched a documentary? Would you prefer a doctor or astronaut that researched through books and experience and passed the tests or someone who is illiterate but tells you he saw it done a bunch of times? Almost every pioneer in the higher form of arts from music, to engineering, to movies, to science and technology studied from reading. There is a huge difference from a person who reads the cliff notes versus the person who read the book. Doing it as a hobby strengthens the brain like cardio to exercise. Sure you can exercise in different ways, but the person who adds cardio to their workout is better off than the person doing the same exercises minus cardio. -Don't mean to sound like I have a tone in my statement. I really don't.
Usually it is not hard to see someone who is well read versus someone who is giving information quoting youtube, wikipedia, talkradio, or documentaries as their source material. You can read about the physical effects reading novels or long form books has on the brain. It physically reshapes it long term; even after a person is done reading for days. It effects the left temporal cortex, an area of the brain associated with receptivity for language. I'll let you read more on that.
