OPINION Is Bruno Mars a culture vulture?

I never understood the vulture metaphor. Vultures eat dead things. The fact that Black music and Black culture are so heavily imitated and replicated shows that they are far from dead and very much full of life.

That's a literal definition. Plus, you're not looking at it from the perspective of how vultures move and what they represent. You know humans as a culture, especially American culture, oftentimes alter, or add, different meanings to a word.

In the business and entertainment world, a vulture is a dangerous scavenger. It looks to ravage by any means, with only thoughts of satisfying its own personal hunger.

It's an accurate depiction of many artists. People fail to recognize, however, that black artists can be vultures too. Not "culture vultures" seeing as how they're a part of the culture inherently, but straight vultures.

Anybody that perpetuates negativity and adds nothing, as far as skill or artistry, is a vulture. Most of these new niggas are vultures. Their only focus are their pockets, and they look to line them at the expense of the genre.

"Show you how to move in a room full of vultures..." - Jay-Z
