I Believe In God....But...

They weren't babies, it's essentially a weird translation but the words used "qatan na'ar" or "little children" describes people young in age, stature, importance or status. There's several accounts in the Bible that describes "qatan" like Jacob's youngest son Benjamin and even Saul, so based on the scriptural evidence they weren't exactly children. Na'ar is also used several times throughout the Bible like Absalom when he was leading a civil war and Joseph when he was 17, so "little children" describes someone who may be young and immature not actual children or babies.

First, we have to understand the context: Elisha was traveling to Bethel, which was a city that was rife with idol worship but still contained God fearing people and if we know anything about God, worshipping false idols is like public enemy number one. Elijah was just taken up by God and delivered him to heaven with a whirlwind so it was on Elisha to deliver Israel, but he hadn't yet established enough credibility with his people.

Elisha's mission was to rescue people from their sinful ways and their evil practices so that God would be exalted above all. As Elisha approached Bethel 42 "little children" came out and mocked Elisha telling him "go up bald head, go up bald head".

Having a bald head back then was considered a blemish among the Israelites. Telling Elisha to "go up" meant they were old enough to understand the events around them. This was in reference to Elijah being taken up to heaven, and again this city worshipped idols so they were testing God's authority. It was more about challenging God than it was about Elisha's being mocked since God had just appointed him to take Elijah's place.

You don't play with God and publicly He showed them and everyone who beared witness (no pun) that His message was very serious. Additionally, their false idols who they worshipped above God failed to protect them.

Yeah, I wasn't calling the people that got killed in that story babies...Was responding to 2 separate points...But however you slice it, killing 42 people(who I would imagine went to hell) over jokes you set them up to make seems petty in my human eyes...He coulda just come down and been like "Yo, that's my guy right there, chill"...Bible God be flexin man....

Christians, Muslims, Judaism, Hindus, Buddhists...etc. Who is right and who is wrong? Is my God the real God? Is my religion the true religion?

If the God I believe in is the one true god. If my faith is the true faith. Why the hell would God allow so many other genuine and honset people be led astray? Shouldn't a god make sure people knew who was the real main god? If one of their gods was real.....why didn’t that god make sure that I knew who the real one was? An atheist once told me that the main reason people believe in so many different gods was that none of those gods were actually real.

It's hard for many people to believe in God because there are billions of people around world that believe in other gods and different faiths. To be honest had it not been for religion it would've been something else. Humans want something to believe in even if we can't prove it's true.

What I don’t get is if we fail I’m life why we have to be punished forever?

Yeah, that fucks with me...So you get this set amount of time to exist, but if you don't do it a specific way you supposedly pay for it for eternity...Another dick move..

Not all the time

I kid born into a good household but has a incurable disease that will kill them before their first bday.

That ain’t humans.

No, it's a random reaction of chemicals we can't explain the origin of...Lol....

It’s just life

Almost...but there are actually clear genetic explanations for diseases like that most of the time

My bad, not you but there is a belief held by many that they were actually little kids or babies.

But Is God's glory not worth more than a "y'all be easy"? The people God chose to punish aren't blameless victims and in a sense we all aren't either because we ultimately know right from wrong.

Is being mauled by bears a fit punishment for something that seems so small to us? That's not for me to decide but that is one of God's command, something He had in embedded in stone to not do.

I don't have all the answers but it is funny that we all try to understand God from a human perspective. I suppose that's all we can do though...

If someone breaks in your home to steal your TV and you shoot him the back killing him, a large percentage I bet would say you were justified in the shooting. They'd say he deserved to die since he broke into your home and took something you earned with your own money. Very few, if any would say the killing would be considered a dick move.

To the first bolded...That was my point about babies...Countless children are born will fatal or debilitating illnesses, or get placed in terrible households...They never did anything wrong as far as we know, they don't know right from wrong...So wassup with that?...If we just chalk it up to bad things happen to good people, I guess...But what kind of creator just allows that?

To the second bolded...Well I'm not that person's creator, right?...Like if I had total control over that person, I would've willed it so that they never broke in my house...So that they never felt the need to steal because they had everything they wanted...God outchea letting niggas feel like they gotta rob me and then putting me in a position where I have to shoot somebody...Lol...

Most of what yall saying is unexplainable actually has scientific explanations.

The issue is though science is really hard to understand so lets just say a big guy in the sky is responsible for all this. Much easier to explain that way.

The whole premise of this thread is that if God actually is a "big guy in the sky"...He's an asshole...So I would imagine that whatever God is it's much more complex than that...

If God is real

He’s more of way he’s presented in the movie Constantine with Keenu Reeves

I look at it like this, if you ever played a sim..like xcom, or city builder, or some rpg where you create ur character in the image of what you want it to be. You have an overall viewpoint of what you want to happen. Sometimes you gotta sacrifice players, sometimes you make some stronger in areas and some weaker in areas. But it's all part of a bigger plan that only you understand.

Some of us are on a quest, some of us are quest givers, some of us are romantic interests, some of us are boss characters, some of us are healers, some of us are tanks, mages, rogues, champions, and some of us are just NPCs.

"Life is God's game"...Yeah, I've thought about it like that before...Actually, when you look at it that way it does take a little of the sting out the negative parts of life...We all just inconsequential characters in a video game...

Yeah I had a heavy argument with my boy about this. He's the absolute most solid nigga but he doesn't play with his religion and faith. A group of us were having a convo about religion and basically he was telling one dude he needs to give himself to God before he can be accepted to heaven and everything is forgiven if not its hell for him. I was just kicking back the whole time but that shit struck a cord with me. I'm personally a God fearing man but I don't subscribe to any religion cause I just don't take them literally. So I had to ask "if a dude that's in jail for killing 10 people and he "gives himself" to God but because I didn't exactly (and wont) put that on the table he's more worthy of getting thru heavens gates than me? Even tho I'm one of the most stand up niggas you know?"

Dude deadass looked me in the face and said "yes"

I'm out here doing the best I can and I might do some dirt, might have to get a nigga outta here. But I know in my heart I'm a good person. I ain't finna kiss no ring. I'm out here trying. If that isn't good enough for God I'm cool on that shit for real. I'm one of the more solid niggas he got. Accept the goodness in my heart or we can keep it moving. God don't owe me shit I don't feel I owe him anything either tho. I know my heart tho.
