It will be very hard to beat Canelo on points, close rounds and the judges will most likely give it to Canelo. I hope Jacobs wins but I think he needs to score a KO to win.

Bob Arum: The Lomachenko-Crolla Fight Got Shoved Up Our Ass

By Keith Idec

Anthony Crolla clearly wasn’t the opponent Bob Arum had in mind for Vasiliy Lomachenko’s next fight.

Lomachenko’s promoter had designs on matching the WBA “super” lightweight champion against IBF champ Richard Commey in a 135-pound title unification fight. When Commey suffered a hand injury during his second-round knockout of Isa Chaniev on February 2, a doctor prescribed Commey two months of physical therapy and rest.

That pushed back a Lomachenko-Commey bout and left Lomachenko (12-1, 9 KOs) to instead accept a fight against England’s Crolla (34-6-3, 13 KOs), the mandatory challenger for his title. They’ll fight Friday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Numerous Internet sports books list Lomachenko as a 100-1 favorite over the former WBA world lightweight champion in a fight ESPN+ will stream.

“The fight got shoved up our ass, with the mandatory, and thanks to our friend, Eddie Hearn, who thought he’d go to purse bid and have Lomachenko fight at least one time on DAZN,” Arum told BoxingScene.com, referring to Crolla’s promoter and the streaming serving with which Hearn works. “We disabused him because we told him that would be the start of a war that they couldn’t win [with ESPN]. And sanity prevailed. We overpaid for Crolla, and that’s what you’re gonna see on Friday night.

“That being said, Crolla, while not the most seasoned guy, is a tough Englishman who was a world champion. And he’s gonna try his ass off to win. It should be an enjoyable fight. But it’s certainly not the fight, given our druthers, that we would’ve made.”

The only way Lomachenko could’ve avoided the Crolla fight would’ve been to give up the WBA lightweight title he won by knocking out Jorge Linares in the 10th round last May 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The two-time Olympic gold medalist is adamant about attempting to win all of boxing’s recognized lightweight titles, thus Arum didn’t even try to persuade the three-division champion to vacate that title.

“You’ve gotta understand that my guy Lomachenko is an eastern European,” Arum said. “They love to pile up titles, they love to unify and they don’t like to give up belts. There was no chance I could convince him to walk away.”

Teofimo Lopez Plans 140 Move: Loma Fight Must Be in 2019!

By Ryan Burton

Despite suffering injuries, Teofimo Lopez has been very active throughout his young career. After fighting 6 times in 2017 and 4 times last year, the 21-year-old said that he plans on fighting another 4-5 times this year against better competition.

“We always have to stay sharp. That is the thing about us, we always stay ready. The plan is to fight 4 or 5 times this year. Next year it will be like two to three times that we fight. Once we become world champion then we will fight two or three times a year," Lopez told BoxingScene.com from his Las Vegas training camp.

Next up is a fight on the Terence Crawford-Amir Khan pay-per-view undercard. His opponent will be Edis Tatli (31-2) of Finland in what will be Lopez's first fight scheduled for 12 rounds.

The 2016 Honduran Olympian hopes to fight for a world title in July. He said that if that happens he would likely defend the title once before moving up to the super lightweight division.

“Let’s say if I fight for the world title in July then I will defend it in December and move up," Lopez said while revealing that it is getting tougher to make the 135 pound lightweight limit.

"It is getting there. It is not hard but I know that just a little slight mistake on my weight and it will be hard. Meaning if I get carried away a little bit when I am not training or fighting, that is what I have to be strict about. Right now we are maintaining weight and keeping focused. That is really it. I really have to maintain. My body is growing and ready to go to 140 and I have to keep it down a couple more months.

"I’ve been telling everybody. I told Bob and I told everybody that if they want to push the fight with (Vasiliy Lomachenko) to next year - I am going to say it like this, I gave them this whole year. If they want to push it to March I am not taking the fight. I am not going to wait that long. We could fight but it would be at a catchweight. I am not going to wait (at 135)."

Lopez hasn't been shy in calling out Lomachenko, who is a top 2 pound-for-pound fighter by most boxing pundits. He made it clear that if titles are going to be on the line that the fight needs to happen this year.

The New York native expects to be even more dominant than what he has shown in his brief career at lightweight. He believes that not having to cut those extra 5 pounds will make a big difference in how he performs in the ring.

"I will be hella strong. Stronger than I am now. Some people say I am small but I am not small at 135. Floyd fought at 154 and he was 5’7”, 5’8”, my height. It is just all in the skills. It doesn’t matter how tall or are or anything. We are ready for all those things," said Lopez.

Broner Pleads Guilty To Lesser Charges in Sexual Assault Case

According to Cleveland.com, a Cuyahoga County judge placed four division champion Adrien Broner on probation after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges in connection to allegations of a June 2018 attack of a woman at a downtown Cleveland nightclub.

Broner, 29, was set to begin trial Monday on felony gross sexual imposition and abduction charges. Instead of going to trial, Broner pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of assault and unlawful restraint.

Broner received a suspended six month jail sentence and placed on probation for two years. He also has to pay Broner a $1,000 fine and reimburse the woman for more than $4,200 in medical bills.

The 35-year-old woman told Cleveland police that she went to the Park Social Club, and at some point was sitting in the VIP section, when Broner came up to her from “out of nowhere," and allegedly laid on top of her and started forcibly kissing her.

This was the second sexual assault case that Broner finished up in recent weeks.

Broner’s attorney, Ian Friedman, said in a statement that the two were “very pleased” to put the matter behind him.

“While confident in a successful outcome at trial, Mr. Broner opted to accept the significantly reduced misdemeanor plea so that he could immediately return to focus on his professional career free from further distraction,” Friedman said.

Last month, prosecutors in Atlanta last month dismissed misdemeanor sexual battery and other charges brought against Broner in February 2018 after a woman accused him of groping her outside a Louis Vuitton store at a mall.

Broner has been out of the ring since January, when he lost a twelve round unanimous decision to WBA "regular" welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The loss brought Broner's record down to 33-4-1 with 24 knockouts.

Khan: Crawford Wanted Rematch Clause, It Gives Me Confidence!

Amir Khan reveals that Terence Crawford's request for an immediate rematch clause has given him a boost of confidence.

Khan will challenge Crawford for the WBO welterweight title on April 20th, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Khan is as high as a 10-1 underdog with some oddsmakers.

While Crawford appears to be very confident of the outcome, Khan is not so sure.

After reviewing the bout agreement, Khan noticed that Crawford demanded a rematch clause - a request that put a smile on Khan's face.

“He shows respect but, inside that squared circle, he goes to war. But in the contract I noticed a rematch clause, which gave me a confidence boost. There must be some doubt in him to have that rematch clause. But Crawford’s a very good boxer and he reads a fight very well. His weakness is that he’s a little wild and can get into trouble. I think it will go the distance and I’ll win by unanimous decision," Khan said to The Guardian.

Part of the reason that many are not giving Khan a chance at victory, was his last performance against Samuel Vargas.

Khan, who won a unanimous decision, was dropped in the fight and he was also rocked in the later stages of the contest.

According to Khan, he took Vargas lightly and viewed him as an easy opponent.

But he also feels that his lackluster performance played a big role in landing the Crawford fight.

“I trained hard but, after 35 fights, I took the guy too lightly,” Khan said. “When I knocked him down I thought it was going to be easy. And then he caught me. But I got up and won big on the scorecards. It was not a great performance but I might not have got this fight without Vargas. Crawford knows I’m still a big name but he thinks it’s going to be easy.”

I'm actually excited about Shields vs Hammer on Saturday and I'm usually not a fan of women's boxing.

I always watch her fights, she the Serena William's of the boxing game right now. Still salty Laila Ali ducked that Anne Wolfe smoke. Shields will be Goat when it's all said and done.

Speaking of Wolfe, she was a fucking beast. That KO she produced against... (I can't remember her name) must be the best KO in women's boxing. One punch KO that put her opponent to sleep. Regarding Shields vs Hammer. Hammer is slow but has a stiff jab, knows how to fight tall and is a technically sound good boxer. On paper this is Shield's toughest fight. I think it will be a competitive fight but in the end Shields should win.

Arum: Hearn Doesn't Know D*ck About Promoting In The U.S.
By Jake Donovan

Just because Bob Arum is doing business with Eddie Hearn this week and is in discussion for a collaboration in the future, it doesn’t mean he’ll pass on the opportunity to take a shot at his promotional rival.

The pair of veteran promoters join forces for Friday’s ESPN+ card in Los Angeles, topped by unified lightweight titlist Vasiliy Lomachenko’s mandatory defense versus England’s Anthony Crolla. Lomachenko is promoted by Arum, while Crollas has long fought under Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing banner in England.

Top Rank admittedly overpaid for the fight to avoid the risk of letting it go to a purse bid hearing. Hearn was prepared to go that route in order to bring the fight to England and have it stream live on DAZN, for whom United Kingdom’s leading promoter is the primary boxing content provider.

Arum instead raised the ante in order to keep the fight on his side of the street—and in the U.S., with the headliner at Los Angeles’ Staples Center aligning with the one-year anniversary of ESPN+, the live streaming platform of ESPN.

That said, the Hall of Fame promoter has fond memories of any time he’s had to fly across the Atlantic Ocean, even recalling a trip to Crolla’s hometown of Manchester, England for a press conference to promote a big Pay-Per-View event in Las Vegas.

“I remember years ago when we promoted the Manny Pacquiao fight with Ricky Hatton,” Arum reminisced during Wednesday’s final pre-fight press conference in L.A. “We went to (Trafford Centre) in Manchester, they let the fighters down on the field in the stadium. It was terrific. They really know how to do an event (in the United Kingdom).”

None have done it as well in recent years as Hearn, who has long surpassed Arum’s business partner Frank Warren as England’s leading promoter. He’s since ventured into the U.S. market, launching Matchroom Boxing USA in 2017 and promoting shows on HBO—prior to their exiting the boxing game in 2018—and exclusively on DAZN since last September.

The results have been mixed, with Hearn openly acknowledging the growing pains endured as his team continues to adjust to a new market.

When given the chance to pay him a compliment, Arum instead seized the moment to take a playful—if not genuine—swipe at his promotional adversary.

“One thing about Eddie, though, he doesn’t know d*** about promoting a fight in the United States,” Arum bluntly stated. “He’s a better promoter in the U.K.”

The quip was taken in jest by all, even the intended target.

“Listen, I can help you sell some tickets for Friday,” Hearn fired back.

Crolla (34-6-3, 13KOs) fights in the U.S. for just the second time in his career. The lone other occasion came in Sept. ’11, four years before he would go on to win a portion of the lightweight title following a 5th round stoppage of Darleys Perez in their Nov. ’15 rematch. Just one successful defense came of his reign before conceding the strap to Jorge Linares in Sept. ’16, as well as coming up well short in their rematch six months later.

Lomachenko (12-1, 9KOs)—a two-time Olympic Gold medalist for his native Ukraine–ended Linares’ 20-month reign with an off-the-canvas 10th round stoppage win last May to become a three-division titlist in the pro ranks. His first successful defense doubled as a title unification win, decisioning Jose Pedraza in their two-belt clash last December.

Gervonta Davis-Yuriorkis Gamboa Possible For 7/27 In Baltimore

By Keith Idec

If Gervonta Davis isn’t required to make a mandatory title defense next, he could face a former champion in search of one last shot.

BoxingScene.com has learned through multiple sources that Yuriorkis Gamboa is being seriously considered as Davis’ next opponent. Whomever he faces, Davis is expected to return to the ring July 27 in a fight Showtime will televise from Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Davis’ hometown.

The powerful southpaw has been calling for another fight in Baltimore since he became a 130-pound world champion by stopping Puerto Rico’s Jose Pedraza in January 2017 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The 24-year-old Davis (21-0, 20 KOs) has a growing fan base, but he hasn’t boxed in Baltimore since his fourth professional fight. He stopped Rafael Casias in the second round of that July 2013 bout on the campus of Coppin State University.

In Davis’ last fight, he knocked out Mexico’s Hugo Ruiz (39-5, 33 KOs) in the first round February 9 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. Ruiz replaced Abner Mares on 10 days’ notice once a doctor determined Mares suffered a detached retina in his right eye during a sparring session late in January.

Davis could use a credible opponent for his next fight, even if fans in Baltimore likely will fill the 15,000-seat Royal Farms Arena for Davis’ homecoming, no matter who he fights.

The Cuban-born Gamboa (29-2, 17 KOs) is past his prime, but the former featherweight, junior lightweight and lightweight champion has won three straight fights since Robinson Castellanos surprisingly stopped him after seven rounds in their May 2017 bout in Las Vegas. Gamboa, 37, beat Mexico’s Miguel Beltran Jr. (33-7, 22 KOs) by unanimous decision in his last fight – a 10-rounder November 10 in Miami.

If Gamboa prices himself out of a potential shot at Davis, it’s also possible Davis could make a mandatory defense of his WBA “super” 130-pound championship against Ricardo Nunez.

Panama’s Nunez was scheduled to encounter Edner Cherry in a fight Showtime was to televise March 2 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Bahamas’ Cherry (37-7-2, 19 KOs) withdrew from that bout because he reportedly lost consciousness during a training session and was taken to a hospital.

Nunez (20-2, 18 KOs) is scheduled to box Colombia’s Didier Castillo (5-0-1, 4 KOs) on April 30 in Panama City. If Nunez, the WBA’s No. 2-ranked contender for Davis’ title, is declared his mandatory challenger, Davis could attempt to satisfy his mandatory obligation rather than boxing Gamboa on July 27.

Gamboa is not ranked in the WBA’s top 15, a requirement for a title shot. He is, however, a former WBA 130-pound champion and wouldn’t necessarily need to win another bout before boxing Davis to appear in the WBA’s rankings in that division.

Andrew Cancio owns the WBA’s “world” super featherweight title and could be a future foe for Davis. The Blythe, California, native isn’t an option for Davis’ next fight because he likely is headed toward an immediate rematch with Puerto Rico’s Alberto Machado (21-1, 17 KOs), whom Cancio (20-4-2, 15 KOs) upset by fourth-round knockout to win that title February 9 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.

Nah Shields is far from the GOAT, shes mad overrated and for a power puncher she doesnt even punch that hard, 2 KOs in 8 fights against limited opposition... Katie Taylor is head and shoulders above every other female imo, she was/is one of the most decorated amateur fighters of all time and could prolly out box most dudes (she even sparred rigo)...

In a few more Olympic runs there should be alot more elite female boxers though, right now there just isnt enough depth in the female divisions to constantly put on regularly good and also competitive fights but there is plenty of talent in the amateur set ups who should turn pro in the coming years which will strengthen the divisions...
