Fragrance thread

Sorry for those who have heard me say it before but LV Imagination is the summer scent that will last you all day

It’s pricey so grab a sample first to see if you like it, it’s top 3 for me

First 20 mins it smells a little sweeter than I like but the dry down is heavenly

Imagination as well as City Of Stars.

Amazing.

California dream isn't bad either but I gotta try the ones you guys listed.

Yea, I still can't fuck with the clones. I'm still on my purist shit.

Creed absolu is dope tho. It's like Aventus, Savauge elixir and Ani mixed. I'd prolly rock it in the cooler weather.

Copped my oldman Acqua Di Parma 'Sandalo' for Fathers Day, tried to find him something that can be worn year round...

Thankfully the lady blessed me with a ton of samples... Couple that stand out is Terre D'Hermes, Acqua Di Parma 'Colonia Club' and surprisingly the Boss 'Elixir' and Armani 'Profondo'... The Profondo is a real nice fresh fragrance...

You gotta step off that pedestal my man.

Some clones smell better or perform better than the OG.

lol nah fuck that. If I want "Aventus", I'm gonna get Aventus, not "Inspired by Aventus".

The problem is…Aventus ain’t been “Aventus” for years…

Too much batch variation and reformulations…

Don’t turn your nose down to clones. You’re gonna miss out on fire!

I have a good mix of both. I usually go for the clones if they offer better performance than the original, or if the original is discontinued and hard to find/resale price is TOO crazy.

Since I got my oldman fragrance for fathers day Ive gone abit fragrance mad again...

Ive found 4 new sample sites that I trust in the UK, I was always abit sceptical on sample sites not knowing which ones to trust but did abit of research and couple have actual brick and mortar stores too... So I went abit crazy and ended up spending over £100 on samples!!! lol also copped a Penhaligons discovery set too smh

Cant wait to give them a try now, basically almost copied 'Perfume Guys' 10/10 niche fragrance list... Though couldnt find Thomas De Monaco's 'Raw Gold'...

If I dont find something I love in this haul Im gonna be pissed!!!

Had big haul of samples come through, not a very good hit rate so far!!! Hope for more luck on the rest on order...

First I'll start on a positive:

Will cops:

Carthusia - Terra Mia: LOVE this scent, beautiful.... Abit sweet??? Hints of chocolate, coffee and creamy vanilla... Will defo cop a bottle of this!!!

Une Nuit Nomade - Jardins de Misfah: Nice fruity scent, hints of rose and again kinda sweet... Would prob a bottle in the future...

Carthusia - Uomo: Very nice scent, at first I got a hint of barber shop but then the dry down went fresh/airy, floral with a hint of spice too... Lovely scent, again would probably cop in the future...

Maybe cop:

Nishane - 100 Silent Ways: This was a weird one, at first I got aniseed smell, then it dried down and went creamy, vanillary, hint of wood??? with some floral notes... Apparently this layers well with their Havcivat scent, so will try that when it arrives...

Defo not cops:

Carthusia - A'mmare: Personally I got a strong aniseed smell at first, then after the dry down it went abit aquatic and fresh but I just hate the taste and smell of aniseed or liquorice so its a put off...

Tiziana Terenzi - Ursa: HORRIBLE, this smells like an old abandoned church!!! Hints of incense too but yuck!!! Pure musky church vibes...

Tauer - Au Coeur du Desert: Way too musky for me, again it smelled like a church (though not as much as 'Ursa' ) but yeah way too old man vibes with this one...

Serge Lutens - Fille en Aiguilles: At first I hated it, then after an hour or so I dont hate it but defo wouldnt buy it... I got strong incense vibe at first, still do but also hints of spic and vinegar but still kinda fresh... A fragrance that I find hard to describe lol

Carthusia - Mediterraneo: Just waaaay too lemony and citrusy...

Maison Violet - Un Air d’Apogee: Very weak and airy, floral vibes but theres something there hitting me that I dont like, might be spice or herbal???

Maison Crivelli - Iris Malikhan: Too powdery and green for me, theres a nice scent there thats that hits me too, thinks its a creamy woody scent??? Just dont like it over all though...

Papillon - Salome: Massive over powering smell of flowers!!! I literally couldnt smell anything else other than flowers and hint of incense...

Jovoy - Psychedelique: Really disliked this, I got a baby lotion smell with hints of woody, musky, powdery vibes...

edit: still waiting on my Penhaligon's discovery set too...

Got my final haul of scents today, not great strike rate... Im no scent expert so excuse my amateur take on this post and the post above lol

Also maybe some of the scents didnt hit because I was spraying them on the tester cards you get from stores, rather than skin???

Will Cop:

Nishane - Havicat: This really hits the spot, very fresh, sweet??? and citrusy but not over the top, with abit if woody forrest vibe too...

I originally bought this because I heard it layered well with their '100 Silent Ways' fragrance, so I did a test and dauuum theyre right!!! The fresh citrus of 'Havicat', paired with the '100's' creamy, vanilla notes is heavenly... So yeah 'Havicat' on its own is defo cop... I was on the fence with '100 Silent Ways' yesterday I liked it but didnt LOVE it but layered together with 'Havicat' is something else, so will cop both at some point...

Maybe cops:

Laboratorio Olfattivo - Vanagloria: At first I was like, yeah this sh!t is a home run, then after the dry down I was so keen on it... Loved the creamy, vanilla opening with abit of spice thrown it, then after a while it went abit too powdery, maybe with a hint of vinegar too... On the fence with this one, think I'll try it on skin and wear it for a day...

Amouage - Jubilation XXV: This seems to be a cult favourite but not sure with this one, think I find it to mature... Lots of amber, oud and leather??? Not sure, I'll wear on my skin for a day and see if grows on me...

Diptyque - Benjoin Boheme: Again at first I thought this is a win, a nice summer fragrance as I heavy mango vibes which I loved... Then I was waiting for the other notes to kick in but it seemed to just stay abit too sweet and almost air freshery... Like I said before maybe its because its not on my skin so will have to wear it on a hot day...

Defo not cops:

Roja - Isola Blu: Ive been looking for a Creed VIW replacement, as I had a spray of a new bottle again for the first time in yeeeears and it smelt like a different fragrance!!! After the dry down the coconut finally came through but at first there was none and was really not feeling it... Was gutted as my first a bottle was in 2011 which is when feel in love with it and has been my go summer joint, Ive bought 2 or 3 bottles since and they were great but after some Googling it seems they changed for formula couple years and also took out an ingredient that is now banned...

Anyways this 'Isola Blu' was apparently a good summer option but I found it over powering with a lime scent... After the dry down some spice came through with abit of wood but I wont be buying it...

Atelier des Ors - Rouge Saray: I got heavy plummy, sweet vibe with abit of a woody kick... It was just too sweet for me, though after an hour I smelt it again and the dry down is as bad as the opening but its not for me...

Lorenzo Villoresi - Musk: Not horrible just way too heavy on the rose, which made it really feminine... Also found it too powdery too...

Lorenzo Villoresi - Alamut: Really did not like this one, again heavy on the floral and rose, almost smelled like a scent you would find in bathroom or something...

Frederic Malle - Portrait Of A Lady: Way too feminine for me, think its the heavy rose and fruit scents...

Then lastly I got tester pack from Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier their 'Oriental' set but they didnt come in atomised bottles, they came the ones you dab with so I just smelt them straight from the bottle and again nothing really took my fancy... I really wanted to try Ambre Precieux but it it wasnt for me tbh cant even remember what they all smelled like now lol I know one was really rosey...

I forgot about Royal Oud... I got it tied for 5th.

Also I find designer houses are alot more universal and safe then the niche houses, like chances are most people will like them or tolerate them in offices etc...

Whereas the niche houses tend to be alot more personal/individual... Like if you fck with the fragrance then great, if not then I found it tends to be pretty offensive to your sense of smell!!!
