I legit never thought about it like that. I was sold on this show when someone told me "it's a show about a serial killer who kills serial killers".
You don't find out he's a cop until after the opening scene iirc. Then when they start doing the flashbacks about how he came to be, him being a cop was the perfect cover.

I watched some of the first season. Could never get past that tho. I'm not about that kind of righteousness. Can't get behind anything just because it's entertainment but that's just me personally.
Not telling anyone not to watch just saying why I probably won't.
The worst thing they did was kill off Doakes, him and Dexter played off each other perfectly

Yeah they should've milked that longer.
Plus it was weak to have that crazy bitch be the one that kills hims. Especially since they had that cat & mouse angle w/ him and Dexter.

I forgot just how bad this show got after the Trinity Killer, John Lithgow was the GOAT villain.
The Barrel girls season might have the worst villains in the entire series and Julia Stiles is a trash actress.

I can see why the other casts not in there since it's not based in Florida anymore but Dexter's dad is his conscious so I'm surprised he's not there
