Netflix Dave Chappelle: The Closer

I think that’s palate of her point. Was that the moment he felt he was selling out? When the white dude laughed a little too hard? I think had it been any of us we would’ve felt the same
Then why make a false narrative. Said the nigga left his family over a cracka laughing at a nigha joke is bullshit.

These fucking Twitter idiot's are hilarious. Just throw anything in the air and call it the sun

It wasn't one thing though. That's a false narrative. There were a bunch of reasons and he's explained that.

Whether they are successful in cancelling a person or not is beside the point though isn't it. At the end of the day, it's kinda fucked up that a segment of society thinks that the proper reaction to everything they don't like is to attempt to destroy people.

That actually is the point because people are bitching about something that they've made up in their own minds as opposed to what's actually happening in reality. And it's not about destroying careers. Everytime this topic comes up people seem to fail to realize that fans aren't obligated to support everything a person they find entertaining does. They have every right to say "nah I don't fuck with that and I'm not supporting it". But for some reason there's a very vocal portion of people who think if you like 1 thing an artist of any kind does you must support everything or else you're trying to destroy them.

Also it's quite funny that people are letting Dave get away with shit they'd kill other people for. So busy defending him against attacks that aren't there that alot of yall are letting actual shit he said that people would take issue with anybody else saying slide by

What are you talking about? People have literally posted articles in this thread with people and organizations calling for the special to be pulled and for Dave to be boycotted, so it makes no sense for you to act like its just a matter of people saying they didn't like the material.

Nobody has said that trans people or others from the LBGTQ community don't have the right to not like Dave's LBFTQ based jokes. That's some shit you're making up, and you and others like you have to stop making up talking points as your means for discussion against opposing viewpoints.

As for your last point, name names. I get tired of people saying shit like that with no basis. Name a person contributing to this thread that is giving Dave a pass on telling jokes about LBGTQ people but have problems with Bill Burr, Daniel Tosh, or other comedians that tell black jokes.

People complaining is just that. People complaining. That's not actually cancelling somebody. Just because somebody is asking for a boycott doesn't mean the shit is gonna happen.. and clearly it didn't mean shit to Netflix as the man just finished a multi million dollar contract for these specials and Netflix kept dropping then even after the initial complaints after the 1st one years ago. Having multiple comedy specials released is a hell of a way to show somebody is cancelled ain't it?

If people aren't saying that they don't have a right to dislike the jokes then so many wouldn't be crying about "they're trying to cancel Dave". People saying they won't watch the special isn't them trying to cancel him. It's them saying they aren't watching it.

And outside of 1 or 2 posters has it been mentioned that bullshit Dave said about "I'm seeing my people beat up Asians"...or how about him not being married to a Black woman and repeatedly saying "these Black bitches" multiple times during the special? Shit like that that wouldn't be accepted from any other comedian yet people so ready to defend Dave from a few articles that they're not even paying attention to other shit he said that also should be mentioned but isn't.

Ive seen about 5 minutes of that Tosh cracker and wanted to repeatedly punch him in the face since that time I saw him on some show

I seen an article a teacher (i think a biology or med school teacher)got in trouble and maybe fired because they said women Only get pregnant and the students was on that it offensive tip.

Saying shit like this can cause misdiagnosis because men and women are fucking different and we can get different disease. Its a dangerous game and yall for it

lol I just told you that people are petitioning for the special to come down and for Dave to be boycotted. That's not just complaining. Yes, its true that those things might not happen, but that doesn't change the fact that there are people out there trying to make them happen.

I agree that people saying they won't support the special isn't them cancelling Dave, but I haven't seen where anyone suggested that. In fact, a common response to complaints like this are "If you don't like this kinda comedy, don't watch it."

Yes, someone has already brought up the Asian joke, and I'm sure he's been criticized for referring to women as bitches. I don't know what to tell ya'll. Dave been saying black bitches since before he was married. Was it ok then but not ok now because his wife isn't black? Dave been telling topical race based jokes since the beginning of his career. Was it ok then but not ok now because in this particular case black people were portrayed as the perpetrators of racism and not the victims?

But you know those petitions ain't gonna go anywhere. So whats the point of being upset about some shit you know won't have the intended result? And people do say that not supporting somebody is cancelling them. That's the point of the whole cancel culture argument. People being vocal about not supporting something.

And I said that outside of 1 or 2 posters those topics didn't get mentioned...and that's the entire point. Dave said some shit that people have actively called people out their name for but cuz it's Dave it gets a pass? And Dave being in his 50s and still needing to refer to Black women as "these Black bitches" is just low brow. Yes he did it before he was married and in his 20s...in his 50s to still be leaning on the same shit isn't showing any real growth. I don't find it humorous to see any man, let alone a Black man, refer to Black women as "these Black bitches". That's not race based humor as there's no real racial commentary behind it. It's just calling Black women bitches. That phrase will never be funny to me in any context.

Dave Chapelle has the ability to make great social commentary on some things and on others he reverts back to sophomoric humor that's just below his talent level. As great as he is he's also become what he doesn't like. The older dude on stage complaining about how it used to be.

You can not support someone or something and prompt others to do the same as an intentional effort to hurt that someone or something. You can also not support someone or something because you simply don't like that someone or something. I've seen plenty of people refer to the first example as cancelling, and it is. I've never seen anyone refer to the second example as cancelling. If you have, post an example.

Not everyone changes the way they speak as they grow older. That's not at all unusual. If you think Dave should and don't like the fact that he hasn't, that's fine, but I'm not sure why you feel that a lot of other people have to share your same hangup. To be honest, I also find it kinda cringey, but a lot of fans of comedy and music don't really care.

I don't really think he's complaining about how it used to be. I think he's catching feelings because some people aren't taking his material the way he wants them to take it, and he seems incapable of accepting that and moving on. I agree 100% with the sophmoric humor. If anything, I think that's what would hurt his legacy.

For an example of what you're talking about just look at any discussion of people who chose to stop supporting someone who did something they didn't like.

I don't feel like other people have to share my opinion. I never said that. I said it's interesting that others have said what he did and gotten called out for it but with him its damn near crickets because people are so caught up in defending him it's almost like they've lost the ability to be nuanced and call that out too.

And Dave is complaining about how it used to be. He flat out says it in the special "I miss the old..." multiple times.

Fair enough. I'll leave it here.

At the end of the day, all I can speak for is myself and what I've witnessed and I can't say that I've seen the double standards and inconsistent treatment that you're claiming exists, at least, not in large measure.
